Cats of Jerusalem

Hi everyone! We are joining Athena’s Caturday Art Blog Hop and Ten Things of Thankful. I used a new site called photovisi which is a site to make photo collages. There is a free service and a paid premium one. I am pleased with the choices on the free service which is how I made this collage.

Special thanks to my friend’s daughter who spent the past 5 months at a dance school in Jerusalem. She said there are cats everywhere and took many photos, including these. It breaks my heart that they are homeless, but she said they are well fed and quite friendly. I also didn’t notice any tipped ears so I fear they are not fixed.

Here are my thankfuls-

  1. Thankful my friends had a safe time in Israel and are now back home.
  2. Thankful there are so many TNR programs in the USA- I wish they were everywhere.
  3. Zataar, a tasty spice blend my friends brought back from Jerusalem. I added some to humus and it is fantastic!
  4. Thankful we have had rainstorms between the snowstorms so it never accumulates.
  5. Thankful for the library, I am going to get Season one of Timeless tomorrow to keep us busy during The Olympics. The show returns in March, it is canceled, but they made a short season 2 to wrap up the show for fans. Have you ever seen it?
  6. A cat Cardiologist less than an hour away, I had Emmy’s ultrasound report sent there and she is recommending we start meds. I agree, I want to stop damage instead of waiting to see if she gets any.
  7. The flu shot seems to be working for us, so far.
  8. Β A $1 box of bandages, my mom got them for The Great One and we enjoyed seeing her put them all over her dolls πŸ™‚
  9. A $1 package of diapers I got The Great One for her dolls. I can’t believe it costs $6 for 3 doll diapers and only $1 for 5 real diapers-that is a rip off.
  10. All my cats, they are all unique and loving in their own way.

  1. Oh, wow. Right before coming here I advised a friend to check into a TNR program for her brother’s barn cats. I have to ask, how on earth do you handle litter boxes and feeding time? I grumble cleaning up cat pooh for two. ~grin~ And I about broke my neck when the girls raced toward the kitchen yesterday afternoon.

    1. We have had cats for so many years that I get I just got used to it. The tough part is pilling 5 cats twice a day.

  2. Sad about all the homeless cats in so many parts of the world (including ours) but it seems TNR just isn’t done as frequently as it should be everywhere. Happy to hear that Emmy will be starting on heart meds – prevention of problems makes SOOOOO much sense!!

    Hugs, Teddy

  3. The wandering cats in some parts of the world do make me sad, i would love to see good TNRs everywhere.

Such a nice list of thankfuls — you are right about how things are priced. Something that is very cheap in one aisle of the store is every expensive if it’s in the pet or baby aisle.

  4. What fun to see the cats in Israel. Hopefully they were fixed but not ear nipped.
That is one great list of thankfuls. There is always a list of things to be thankful for, that is for sure.
You all have a terrific day.

  5. I hope TNR catches on in other countries too. Those are some good things to be thankful for! I have heard of zataar but never tried it. It sounds yummy. Hope you have a great weekend! πŸ™‚

  6. I love kitties no matter where they are from..

Our flu shot is working too. Hope it stays that way.

Have a fabulous day. Scritches to all the kitties. β™₯

  7. In France there are lots of stray cats that are not fixed.
I “have” one who comes twice Γ  day for food. I cannot touch him. He needs to be neutered. But there is nobody to help me. The association who is supposed to help … does not really care.
    Have a nice week end.

    1. That is so sad that no one will help. Where I live, we can rent a trap and it is only $35 to get a feral fixed, rabies shot and flea prevention.

  8. We are fankful fur you all bein’ in our lives awnty Ellen. Toys of any kind are ridiculously purriced, but we’ve not seen real diapurrs fur a dollar either. Big hugs

    Luv ya’

  9. Ali here from Crotchety Cougars. You have been nominated for mystery blogger award. Please check out my blog for rules.

  10. It is indeed sad that they are homeless and even sadder if they are not fixed. That means more and more homeless little souls. I’m glad that they are at least fed.
#2 Yes! I wish it was everywhere.

  11. What beautiful cats. It is so wonderful to hear that they are well-fed, but I also certainly do wish they were neutered. And, as always, your Thankfuls are so wonderful to read!

  12. Glad to know these kitties are well fed, but I’m with you about them not being fixed. Wish TNR program is everywhere.
It’s nice they made a season for fans even though the show was cancelled. I don’t like when the show is cancelled with no regard for storyline or fans or those involved. (And it happens a lot!)
    Happy weekend!

  13. I was unfamiliar with ear tipping, but thanks to google, I now know.

I’m imagining a doll covered in bandaids and so very loved. Perhaps you could get some preemie diapers that would work on the doll. I’m not sure how much the cost, the size might work.

Yeah for the flu shot working so far.

  14. It’s so sad about the cats in some countries. We’re are very lucky to be living in England but we still can’t help worrying about the poor kitties abroad.

It’s the same with the cat population in Greece and Cyprus, so we’re trying to help them by raising awareness. If we had the money we’d help kitties everywhere.

  15. Great thankfuls… think it is cute that The Great One is diapering her dolls. Sad too about the kitties that are without homes and not fixed. Happy Emmy is going to start on meds. The collage is cool!

    1. Thank you. Yes, The Great One enjoys her dolls, unlike me- I used to give mine to the dog. I only liked stuffed animals, guess it is good that I didn’t have kids. πŸ™‚

  16. (This week) my favorites: #4 and, of course, #10

We’ve been fortunate here (southern New England) for the effects of the intervening rain. So much easier to take the cold when it doesn’t look like the Arctic!

#10….cats (and dogs) perfect life forms!

  17. #1 for sure. It would be very cool to visit Israel except with such unrest there, I don’t know that I would feel completely at ease. Glad your friends had a safe trip.
It’s been raining here in the DC area all weekend but I too am grateful it’s not snow!
Isn’t it great what you can take out from the library? When I lived in FL, we would go weekly to the library not just for books but for the movies. They had an incredible selection.
Excellent the flu shot is doing it’s job. I’ve known so many people that have gotten the shot but then came down with the flu. I have never gotten a flu shot and I don’t know that I ever will lol

    1. Thank you. My friend’s daughter lived there for 5 months and felt safe. I couldn’t survive without the library πŸ™‚

  18. I’m a big fan of dollar store items – bandages and doll diapers. How cute. I love a free online photo editing site.

I’m glad you and the cats are healthy.

  19. Those cats are beautiful. I’ve been to Israel a number of times, and I *have* seen some kitties with tipped ears. Hopefully, TNR will catch on even more there.

  20. “The Great One”—lol, what a nickname! The bandaids and diapers sound fun.
The hummus sounds terrific. I would like to give that spice a try. And a dance school in Jerusalem has me curious. What kinds of dance was she studying?
