Happy Tuesday everyone! Today is Medical Day and I have a question to ask and welcome input from anyone who may have an answer.
Spooky, the kitty we adopted last year is at least 13 years old, probably older. He has arthritis and walks like a little old man. He can actually move fast and run, but it takes him a minute to get the old joints moving. I bought him Cosequin which is glucosamin for cats. It comes as a capsule that you open and pour the powder into canned food. He was on it for a few months and it seemed to help, but his stools were loose (sorry for those of you eating breakfast). We stopped it and they didn’t improve until after we stopped the canned food.
Then I ordered Joint Max soft chews for cats which contains glucosamine and chondroitin. He loves the treats and willingly ate them, but they also upset his tummy. Any other ideas of what I can give him that contains glucosamine? I know it helps, but I don’t want to trade one problem for another. I would also like to know if anyone else had a similar problem with these products. I appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.
If you haven’t already commented, today is the last day to enter to win the turkey legs, I will announce the winner tomorrow and start the new contest Saturday. Have a great day!
We are participating in Peace Day because we want peace for all creatures great and small.
I have the same problem with Sam and the Cosequin capsules AND the soft chews……he hates all of it……no matter how I disguise it!! I’ve given up – he has good days and bad days with his arthritis and I often carry him up or down stairs but I don’t mind doing that……….not easy getting older for cats OR humans!
Pam
Poor Sam, I didn’t realize he had so much arthritis trouble. I suggest a heating pad on low under a blanket, that helps Spooky a little when he can get to it- all the kitties are attracted to heat.
Our vet gave us a liquid pain med buprenorphine which we administered in very very low doses sometimes 2x a day. We did that the last two years of her life, no side effects.she still liked to play…until she passed at 17.
If only we humans can learn to focus on common ground and not differences
Thank you, I will look into that. I am glad to hear there were no side effects. We had given our dog pain meds and that is what eventually gave her trouble.
We were going to suggest buprenorphine, too. Angel Sammy used to get injections every three weeks or so in his last 4 or 5 months with us. He was almost 20 years old, and had arthritis. It really did seem to help him a lot.
Peace to you!
Good to know there is also an injection form and that your Angel Sammy lived such a long life. I wish all kitties got at least 20 years.
peace filled purrs

Peace to all of you too.
Anything you find out about this, I would love to know. Delilah is young, only about to turn 3, but she has luxating patella (floating knee caps) which causes her to also have arthritis and joint pain. I would love to find something that will help her.
Sending purrs, love, and peace to all!
I will definitely let you know, poor kitty to start so young with pain.
Loved your BlogBast.
But Turkey Legs, Turkey Legs, Turkey Legs, Turkey Legs… MOL!
I guess you really like turkey legs, don’t worry if you don’t win this week, you get 2 more chances.
It sounds like you are getting some great suggestions here! My human is taking mental notes because although Binga and Boodie are active and have no issues, they are 14 and 13 respectively, so it’s always possible arthritis could develop.
Your mom is smart, good idea to learn about things ahead of time, but hopefully they won’t have problems.
We use Zuke’s Hip Action and we haven’t had any problems with the tummy yet. We sure hope that Peace starts popping up everywhere!
Peace everywhere would be wonderful. I will look into this Zuke’s hip action-thank you.
Our Buddy Budd had a lot of issues with limping and they left after he was at a healthy weight. (Buddy was 20# when Dad rescued him.) He sleep a lot but runs like a young cat when he chooses. We stick with good canned food all the time as the nutrition and water content do more good for elders than bagged food with adverts. In our opine at least. We have not tried any supplements of that type so really cannot comment.
We will purr for Spooky to feel fit at an elder kitty can!
Timmy Dad and Family
Spooky appreciates the purrs. He is a lot better than he used to be, he was mainly a neighbor’s outdoor cat for years then he lived with another neighbor, but mostly was out. I told him he can live with us, but he can’t go out- so far it has been a year and he is a happy guy.
Oh yes
Winnah Winnah Turkey Leg Dinnah!
Hope we win
Timmy
Good luck and if you don’t win this week, you get two more chances.
That is a lovely peace globe. I am purring for peace.
I don’t have any suggestions for the arthritis. Luckily none of the cats we have had have suffered from it. Wish I could say the same!
I am glad that Flynn does not have it. Sorry that you do 🙁
Hope you are able to find something that works for Spooky.
So glad you joined the peace post. It’s always fun to see the beautiful peace graphics and posts.
This is our first one, I hope to be better with the editing by the next one.

1 bad review isn’t bad, every kitty is different so that one kitty may have been allergic to something in it.
Wonderful image; wonderful message. This is my fave day of the year to be a blogger. I wonder if coconut oil would help. Someone sent me Pet Naturals of Vermont Hip + Joint treats. If you’re in the U.S., I could send them to you since I wouldn’t eat them.
I will look into coconut oil. Thank you for the very sweet offer of the pet naturals, but I don’t want you to have to pay to ship them to me, I am in the US, but shiping is expensive. I am sure a shelter would take them for an older cat.
Aw, I hope you can find something that can help Spooky. I don’t know much of anything about this, but I have heard some medicines come in a form that can be rubbed into a kitty’s ear? Might be worth asking about at least.
We got our WONDERFUL present today and we love everything! Come see!!! We gots video! THANK YOU!
Awww….thanks for making a video- I will go over and check it out. I am glad you like everything. I have never heard of the stuff in the ear, that is interesting and a great idea.
That’s a great peace globe and we join you in purring for peace. Naturvet has something for arthritis and joints.
Thank you, there are so many products try. So far 2 have upset his tummy so I am looking for cats that haven’t had tummy troubles and had arthritis improved on a product.
Sorry, no knowledge of arthritis treatment. Wishing each of you peace as well. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
Thank you and I am glad you have no knowledge of treatments because that means your kitties haven’t had arthritis.
Have no experiance with cat´s with arthritis , but I see you got lot´s of suggestions 🙂
Purring for world peace over here too !
I hope you never have experience with it. Yes, I did get a lot of suggestions.
Great image! Would he let you open the capsule and sprinkle it over the food? Cosequin worked wonders for our 20 year old Caleb!
IF you want to try this, and he turns up his nose at Cosequin sprinkles, you might try topping the cosequin with a sprinkling of FortiFlora. It’s animal digest and probiotics and cats tend to think it’s yummy.
That is a great idea. He liked the cosequin on food, but hus tummy didn’t so the FortiFlora with it may work.
We have no experience of cat with arthritis. Have a peaceful day. Purrs
I hope your kitties never get arthritis.
Thank you for blogging peace with us. You are an awesome cat with many good suggestions and helps for others.
Peace to you and yours always,
Mimi
