ROAR

Happy Wednesday everyone! Today is ROAR day and my funds are still quite low after T’s vet bill a couple weeks ago and Joanie’s upcoming teeth cleaning/lump removal on Friday so I am not donating money this week.

The wife of my husband’s friend passed away in June. At her funeral someone spoke of how she always donated food to the church’s food pantry. I decided to go through my cupboards and donate everything I knew I wasn’t going to use ( the expiration date was a long way off). Plus I picked up some mac and cheese to add and 6 Friskies cans of  food. I dropped off the bag with a paper in it saying “In Memory of Claire….”

I figured I could help cats and people this time as well as helping someone’s memory live on. Every little bit helps. I know I have written of it before, but in case you missed it: The Animal Rescue Site and Freekibble.com both just take one click a day to provide food for animals at no cost to you.

And the winner of the turkey legs for this week is : Timmy Tomcat-  Congratulations! If you didn’t win, don’t worry, I am having another contest starting Saturday and another one the following week. Thank you to all that commented. In case you are wondering how I choose a winner, I count the comments ( not counting my replies) then I have hubby pick a number 1- whatever and count from the beginning of the comments to that number. I wish I was more high tech, but I really need some wordpress lessons, I had installed a promo plug in, but can’t figure out how to use it. Someday, after I figure out how to display badges and ads, etc…..

Have a nice day everyone!

  1. Ellen, the easiest way to do a drawing is to use Random.org. Count your comments as you usually do, then enter 1 through your total number and the random number generator will give you a total list. Donating to a food pantry is a great thing to do! 2. Good for you for donating food items, human and kitty, and how lovely to do it memory of someone. It’s not always possible to donate $$ — this much I know only too well, from absurdly high vet bills over the past handful of years.

Our public transit has a food drive every year, for the local food bank, and I just cleaned out my pantry this AM before work, dropped it all off in the bin on my regular bus. It’s a great way to pass on the extra stuff we buy but realize we won’t use. Some grocery stores here also have pre-ready bags full, and you can donate one for $5. Well worth doing, and there’s more than $5 of food in them.

Also, one year I made a few dozen or so kitty blankets (knitted) for Derry’s and Nicki’s shelter — though of course it cost for the wool. But it was fun to do–I was in a knitting mood for a few months, haven’t done it since.

Even the clicking: I do both every day, and like that Freekibble.com has added the litter donation too.

Sometimes I think, oh, it’s not worth it because I’m not able to donate substantial sums of money, or help everyone, but you are correct: Every little bit helps!

    Purrs and peace.

    1. That was nice of you to donate the food and the blankets. I hope you get in a knitting mood again. I like to crochet while watching tv so I can multi task.

  3. I think it’s wonderful that you donated people and cat food to the food bank. I have to go to those regularly, and it’s always very nice when I get food that hasn’t passed it’s expiration date 🙂

Do you know about random.org? It is free to have the website pick a random number for you. I’ve used it in the past when I had giveaways (these days, I use Rafflecopter, which also has a free option). Both are really easy to use. Trust me, I am technologically challenged and I was able to figure them out 🙂

    1. Thank you, Kitties BLue also suggested random.org so I will need to try that. I don’t like when I have to use rafflecopter to enter, it is too much work and I figure if I don’t like it, then others wouldn’t either.

  4. Donating to a food pantry in Memory of your friend Claire is a lovely tribute <3
The times I have had give away´s I have written all the names on small notes and wrapped them and then mixed them in a bowl and then my cat have choicen who the winner is 🙂

    1. I did something similar when I had less entried and tossed the papers for the kitties to choose- that is a lot of fun 🙂

  5. What a nice gesture to make in memory of Claire. Timmy Tomcat and crew will love those toys 🙂

  6. Good for Timmy winning the turkey legs – lucky guy!!! Good for you donating to the food bank…..churches are one of the first places people who need help go for it……

    1. Thank you and be sure to come back Saturday to enter again for another chance at more turkey legs.

  7. I do like you do when I don’t have the finances, I donate food to the food banks and pet food banks. Every little bit helps. Last year I donated toys and clean blankets to the shelter too 🙂 Concats to Timmy and the Gang.
Pee Ess: My Mom LOVES the clutch for Breast Cancer Awareness. She proudly carries it being a survivor. Marty sits on the nip mat in the mornings when I feed the Girls. Thanks so very very much 🙂 The toys are a big hit too!

    1. I am so pleased that your mom is enjoying the clutch and the kitties are enjoying the mat and toys. That was so nice of you to donate toys and blankets to the shelter.

    1. I am discussing J-Lo with my hubby and I am also spreading the word in case he won’t agree.

  8. Donating to a food pantry is a great idea and I’m sure the humans and kitties appreciate your generosity.

Low tech works – no need to change your method. And congratulations to Timmy Tomcat on winning the toys.

    1. That is a good point that you can buy the food with food stamps, but not other necessities like toilet paper. I will keep that in mind the next time I donate. Thank you for the wordpress help. I know you tried to help me when I got my first badge, but I still couldn’t figure it out-I will try again.
