It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading?

Hi everyone! Today we are joining Book Date’s It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading blog hop and Comedy Plus’ Awww…Mondays. But first, I will list my three things I am thankful for today.

I am thankful for central air and that it is actually working. I am thankful that my niece is so sweet and brought a Father’s Day gift over for my hubby ( Uncle David) and I am thankful that Pipo and Minko’s Mom copied and pasted my post from last Monday for me. The one that GoDaddy stole and never gave back. Now I don’t have to waste brain cells trying to rewrite it.

I am sure many of you have heard of Norton the cat and read the 3 books his owner, Peter Gethers wrote about him back in the 1990’s. I wrote about them during the 2016 A-Z challenge, you can click here if you missed it.

Peter Gether’s latest book is a memoir/cookbook about his wonderful Mom titled, My Mother’s Kitchen. She had been a stay at home Mom to her two sons and a dutiful wife to her husband then at the age of 53 she started a career as a chef. She trained with Wolfgang Puck and became quite famous herself, even authoring several cookbooks.

I enjoyed learning more about the entire family. His mother was truly amazing, surviving 3 kinds of cancers and a stroke. She proved that attitude really does matter in recovering from illnesses. She also loved cats and would cat sit for her son’s cats. Norton used to travel with him, but after he passed, the other cats did not.

The author wanted to honor his Mom by cooking some of her favorite meals. This gives him quite an education in cooking too and a chance to bond with many friends. I learned several cooking tips and I plan to try some recipes too. If you are interested in reading it, here is the Amazon link.

I chose Prancie to pose with the book because Norton was a Scottish fold and Prancie reminds me of one because of her ears ( hers was frostbitten though)

And today is also International  Box Day

Penny is our box lover in the family. Sometimes she gets so excited, she pees in them. She hasn’t in a long time though so maybe she outgrew it.

  1. Minko was the best friend of any box that came into the house. Pipo sometimes gets in…but not for long. Minko would sleep long hours in one if he got in one at ‘nap time’.

Penny sure looks cozy in that nicely lined box!

  2. Sounds like a super good book!! Angel Sammy was the box guy in our house and so far other than my Cat Scouts Derby car, I’m not BIG on boxes but Mom thinks I will be eventually. We were sad to learn of Minko’s passing on Father’s Day……

    Love, Teddy

    1. I learned of Minko’s passing when I saw your comment, I was shocked and heartbroken. Just too many losses all the time in the blog world. 🙁
XO and love to you and your Mom!

  3. I was one of the lucky ones who actually got to read your post last Monday, before GoDaddy up and stole it. I don’t mind reading it again, though, because this book sounds fantastic. And look at you, Penny, enjoying your lovely box! It sure is kind of you to not pee in it. Purrs, and happy Box Day!

  5. I am still not reading books… I don’t know what has happened this summer. Maybe just distracted. I almost ordered books for my reader yesterday but I never got it done… PROcrastination.

  6. Penny, that’s some serious box-like! Our mom is currently listening to an audio version of Thrawn by Timothy Zahn. She prefers print but got a free deal on this one. This is a Star Wars book.

  8. I had no idea that Peter Gethers wrote a cookbook. I read the three Norton books and loved them. I’m reading a non-fiction book called The Perfect Horse. It’s about horse breeding during WWII–it’s very interesting so far.

  9. The Peter Gethers book does sound good. Having an allergy to cats, I can’t share any cute cat stories but enjoy hearing about yours. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

I don’t think of kitties of peeing when excited. Maybe Penny had a little puppy in her!
