Wordless Wednesday

Hi, sorry we are not wordless today. We are joining In Purrsuit of Flavours hosted by Easy and The Canadian Cats. The theme this month is dough recipes.  My recipe is for shredded wheat bread, it is not for a bread machine, but I am lazy so I used the bread machine to do the kneading and rising. Then I took the dough out and baked it in 2 loaf pans. One time, I tried to cook it in the bread machine and didn’t realize it makes 2 loaves so it overflowed and stuck to the heating element. It was a big mess.

Ingredients:

  • 2 large shredded wheat biscuits, crumbled
  • 2 cups boiling water-cool to lukewarm
  • 1 t salt
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2  T butter
  • 1 package yeast
  • 6 cups all-purpose flour

If you do what I did and use the bread machine, add liquid ingredients then dry then yeast.

Otherwise,

dissolve yeast into 1/2 cup warm water ( not from the 2 cups. )

Pour water over the shredded wheat. Add the molasses, salt, sugar  and butter.. Add the yeast, dissolved in the lukewarm water. Mix together thoroughly. Add flour gradually until the mixture forms a firm dough.
Turn out on to a lightly floured board. Cover and let stand for 10 minutes, then knead the dough until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, turning to grease the top of the dough. Cover. Let rise in a warm place until doubled in bulk (about 1 hour).

Punch down dough- divide in half and put each half in a greased baking pan. Cover and let rise for another hour then bake at 350 degrees for 35minutes.

It makes great toast.

Sammy is a day late, but he wanted to show you all what a great model he is.
