TOTO

Happy Friday everyone! Today is book day and Lucy and I have 2 great books to tell you about: 008

Many of you have probably heard of Toto the Tornado Kitten, but for those that haven’t I will fill you in. On June 1, 2011, a tornado cut a path through several nearby towns (Springfield,Brimfield and Monson, Massachusetts). The next day, a tree worker found a kitten in a tree and brought him to the Brimfield Fire Department where Jonathan wasΒ  working as an EMT. He agreed to take care of this tiny kitten weighing only 6 ounces and was estimated to be only 2 or 3 weeks old. Jonathan knew he needed medical help so he turned him over to The Animal Rescue League of Boston as they were in the area to help. That August,Jonathan’s wife, Amy adopted Toto for her husband as a surprise.

Jonathan realized what a great story this was of survival and love so he decided to write a children’s book about it called Toto the Tornado Kitten. That book did so well that he now has another book out titled, Oh Toto Where Did You Go? All the money from these books goes to The Animal Rescue League, so far it totals $56,000. He also donates books to the vet clinic we go to and all the proceeds go to PAL ( my favorite shelter).

Another nice thing is that Jonathan and Toto travel to area libraries and schools so everyone can meet Toto. I am thrilled to say that I finally got to meet him. 008He was an absolute sweetheart and just sat in the chair the entire time 005

I wish I had gotten more photos, but there were about 20 kids there and I couldn’t get them in the photos without a release. I must say I enjoyed listening to a story, Jonathan read the new book to us. He also taught the kids several things they measured Toto and then they learned the title of the book in sign language.

If you are interested in buying the books or just learning more about Toto, here is the link to his website: http://totothetornadokitten.com/index.html . You can also find him on Facebook.
