Hi everyone! We are joining Comedy Plus’ Awww….Mondays and Book Date’s It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading? 

The Golden Thread: Experiencing God’s Presence in Every Season of Life by Darlene Zschech is an inspirational read for anyone going through a tough time.

*Disclosure: I received this book for free as part of The Book Look Bloggers book review program. I am not required to write a positive review, all opinions are my own.

For those that are not familiar with the author, she is an Australian pastor, composer and writer. She is also a wife, mother, grandmother and cancer survivor. Using her life experience, she explains seasons of life and how to live a full life during any season.

This book is very heavy on quoting scripture. It would be perfect for a Bible study group. I am a big fan of The Bible, but I was hoping for something unique instead of a rehashing of what I am already familiar with. She refers to Queen Esther several times and how she stood up for her people. I have read about her in many other books too.

Despite my complaint above, I did find some chapters useful. For example chapter 11 was about the Holy Spirit and how we should welcome him into our lives. She also reminds us that prayer is not about telling God what we need because he already knows. We should ask what God wants in our lives.

I recommend this book to anyone looking to grow in their faith. And as I wrote earlier, it would be perfect for Bible study groups. It would also be a nice book to read during the Lenten season which starts next month. It is available on Amazon, click here.

  2. I find that reading the Bible through every year promotes new understanding and affirms integrated understanding of God’s perfect and precious Word, and I find no reason to supplement it with anything else. If others prefer supplemental reading with the Bible, I say, “Go for it!”

I should revisit the free ‘Our Daily Bread’ Bible study guide, which included reading assignments for both Old and New Testaments as well as an extra bit of scripture with modern day incites. That was always a good experience. Thanks for the reminder. I’m going to search online now. Be well, my dear!

    Thanks for sharing the book review. I always pray specifically for things. I know God knows everything but I think He wants us to come to Him with these needs. I also not only ask for certain things but above all for what He wants in my life. I know God has my best interest always so I know whatever pans out is what’s meant to for my life. 🙂

  21. I think a lot of people use God and prayer as a ‘Mr Fix It’…

    Which of course is not too good, but then, He will fix things along His will, however it may not be the way we might have wanted, and then we still have to pray that we will abide by His will, and not ours.

    I think we need to pray like this:
    Praise and honor to God
    Beg for forgiveness after repenting of the sin we have done, intentionally or not.
    Thanks for all the blessings we have, and for answered prayers.
    Give our requests and other thoughts to God. (He does know them but He always wants to hear about them anyways, He is our Father, and what good Father doesn’t want to hear about what His children are needing and thinking.)

  24. I am so glad I kept going on down reading. I would have missed a dear blog. This appeals greatly to me. Prayer is a daily thing here in my household and with all of my family. Three comments up…Dalton/ Benji/Angel….was one I could and would have written.

  25. Did it sound like something that might be useful in Curt’s passing? Or might it be redundant since I’ve read most of the Bible fairly thoroughly as an Episcopal deacon? Thanks
