Thankful Thursday

Hi everyone! Mom said I could write a post today to give an update. Plus I am thankful to still be here so I am joining Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop. Mom and I are also thankful for all the purrs and prayers and words of encouragement  and advice you have all left. You are giving us strength. Mom says she will try to visit some blogs today, but I am a high maintenance kitty right now. We will blog sporadically for now.

I have stage 4 kidney disease (not sure how I skipped stage 3). My smother and dad are feeding me with a syringe. They have been doing it every few hours for over 24 hours and I haven’t yacked yet. They are hoping I will eat again on my own soon. We are waiting for a compounding pharmacy to mail my phosphorous binder. Have any of you ever tried that? Mom paid extra for overnight delivery, but they took 2 days to get it ready to ship- phooey! I also get fluids at home every other day.

I was strong enough to make both of my folks bleed yesterday. I chomped mom’s finger when she gave me a pill and I scratched dad when he was holding me to be fed.

I have been still going out twice a day. And Grammie came to see me- I love her so very much! She gave my $5 because I don’t want treats right now.

I think I look pretty darn good for being so sick.

And here is my poem for Sammy’s Poetry Day, just a haiku.

Out
I love to go out
fresh wind on my pretty face
warm sun on my back

I love you all and hope to see you soon! One more thing, here are the Friendly Fill-Ins for Friday. Not sure if we will do them, but Annie at McGuffy’s Reader will. Mom came up with the first two and Annie came up with the second two. Mom will definitely read everyone’s posts too.

  1. Hi, Phoebe! And you know I and petcretary are also thankful to hear form you once again.
We are way behind in all our blogging tasks, and haven’t even posted our pirate pictures…sheesh. But you popped up in my email and I mewed at her to get over here right away!!
You *do* look good there, outside. Sorry that you are so sick. Please take your food, your pawrents want to help you, but you need to eat…yup, petcretary well remembers all the pills and feeding chores…
I have heard that a phosphorus binder can do wonders to support a kitty like you, so I am purring hard that it will be helpful for you, too.

Sending huge hugs, lots of love and pawyers to you and your whole furmily.

  2. Phoebe, we can’t express how happy and thankful we are to hear from you today! We have been sending you lots and lots of purrs and prayers, and will of course continue to do so.

When Angel Rosie was battling kidney disease, she never required a phosphate binder, but a number of kidney cats at the clinic where I worked did. Many of them indeed improved on it. Angel Rosie really improved (and even went from being considered Stage 4 to Stage 2, even close to Stage 1) when we started her on high levels of the nutraceutical called RenAvast (now called AminAvast), and when we began giving her sub-q fluids at home every day. She also had to be syringe fed a number of times in her older years, due to both kidney disease and pancreatitis. Her favorite meal became ham baby food. Though we know you may not be so happy with your mom and dad right now, Phoebe, please know that they are taking the best care of you!

We really love seeing you enjoy your time outdoors, Phoebe, and we think you look as beautiful as ever. Sending you lots and lots of purrs and prayers!

  3. Phoebe, did your mom order the binder from Thriving Pets? They have aluminum hydroxide which is a really good binder. You can also order ALOH from Amazon, it’s called Phos Bind. We hope you start eating on your own soon. Are you getting an appetite stimulant? That can help.

  4. Phoebe, I’m so glad your humans are taking such good care of you. I’ve been sending you lots of purrs, and will continue to do so.

  5. It’s good to hear from you, Phoebe. Thank God your mom and dad are smothering you with love and care. We’ll continue to pray for your healing and well being. We love you so very much.

  6. Phoebe! It’s great to see you and yes of course you look beautiful even if you aren’t QUITE feeling as well as you wish you were (and WE wish you were). It sounds like your Mom and Dad are doing all they can to perk you up and we hope it works!!! Now you need to eat on your own and of course no more biting the hand/finger that feeds you. Tee Hee I’m sending you POTP and hugs.

    Love, Teddy

  7. You are a pretty kitty, Phoebe…and I feel badly that YOU are feeling poorly! Glad your Grammie visited you…and you scored some $$! Sending purrs and hugs; I’ll never stop sending them ❤️?❤️

  8. Oh Phoebe, so glad to get an update on you. Sounds like you are hanging in there and that is good. We sure send many more purrs and prayers and hope you make a turn for the better soon. We also send the Mom and Dad many hugs for taking such good care of you. Take care.

  9. I am so glad you are taking the syringe feeding and getting some outside time with Mom and Dad, Phoebe. Yes, I think you look great. But I think you always look beautiful. We are praying and purring for you. We love you!

  10. Oh Phoebe what wonderful parents you have. TLC can work wonders.
Mom calls me high maintenance too but that is ok she says it lovingly.
    Kitty kisses and Mom hugs

  11. Phoebe I am SO happy to see you with an update! Yes, you look better than darn good… you look wonderful. I am elated that you got to see your Grammie! I know your Mom and Dad are there for you and they are doing a wonderful job of loving you and taking care of you. Sending hugs, prayers, and scritches!

  12. Phoebe it is SO good to read your update ! Purrayers and POTP that you continue to rally and the phosphorous binder helps you ! You look pretty (as usual) and we are sure the visit from Grammie helped make you feel better ! Purrs.

  13. We’re so glad to see you! We’ve been worried about you. It’s good that you have enough spark to fight your parents, but please remember they are trying to help you. Pawhugs from all of us here.

  14. I’m sorry you’re sick. It’s not fair one bit.

I know you love your Grammie a whole bunch. She loves you too.

Have a purrfect thankful Thursday. My best to your wonderful mom. ☺

  15. Oh Phoebe! We are behind in visiting friends. We are so very sad to hear about your diagnosis. You are in very good paws with your smother and dad, that’s for sure. We’re sending lots and lots of healing prayers and purrs to you, my friend. Mommy can send Reiki if you would like her to. Tell your mom to message her. Smooches! Feel better soon!

  16. Oh, Phoebe, so good to hear from you. You look splendid in your outdoor setting. Mom and Dad are doing an excellent job taking care of you. Sure hope you can continue to improve. We”re purring and praying. We love you!

  19. Phoebe, it’s so good to see you! About treatment, our mom says:

My little cat Sophie had stage 4 CRF. Our vet put her on a phosphorous binder, Pepcid and subQ fluids every day, and twice a week she got a shot of Epogen (all administered by me). Sophie saw the vet regularly every other week for monitoring and bloodwork. She also got a vitamin B shot maybe 3 times over the course of about a year when her appetite flagged or she showed signs of lethargy. She did pretty well on this regimen, all things considered. I hope this helps a little.

  20. Phoebe, it made my entire rest of the week to see you here today and yes, you DO look good. Honey, I know you didn’t intend to bite Mommy or scratch Daddy. I think you just did not want that syringe again. But please think of your Grammie to distract yourself and just open up and let them help you to feel better. Please?

    Lots of love

  21. You look beautiful sweet Phoebe and thanks for giving us an update, we’ve sure been thinking of you. Thanks for joining the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!

  22. Phoebe, you are a trooper! I wish you could reverse to Stage 1–or Zero! Your folks take good care of you, so don’t hinder them, okay? Effie agrees! ^-.-^

  23. Phoebe, darling, you know our mom has been praying for you for a very long time, and we continue to send purrs and POTP. Fiona did use the phosphorous binder for the entire time she was sick, as she wouldn’t eat the KD food. We sure wish you would eat, sweetie. We are especially sorry that you don’t even want treats. We all love you and are routing for you. And you not only look beautiful but quite meowvolous as well. Keep fighting. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo and Cooper Murphy

  24. Hey Phoebes,
You sure are having a tough time my crotchety friend. Your mom and dad are such great helpers….fedding you by syringe is no easy job. My heart is with you my dear cougar.

    Loves,

    Crotchety Kali

  25. Phoebe, I think you look wonderful! We took care of our CRF kitty, Simba, for over three years. He also had a phosphorous binder in his food. We gave him fluids daily (brought to room temperature in a bowl of warm water). Your mom and dad take very good care of you. I really hope you will do well on your treatment plan. Love to you.

  27. Glad you’re still in da house, Phoebe. I’m sending more healing purrz. Even with all the other ailing cats, I still have some left over. C/mon, Phoebs, eat for your Grammie.

  28. We are purring for Phoebe!

Thank you so much for your thoughtful condolences and purrs about our sweet angel Zoe’s passing. You are dear friends, and we are so grateful for you.

  29. Ellen,

I hope your Phoebe feels well again soon. Saying prayers. Sweet poem. I feel this way sometimes when I get outside to soak up a few rays with the wind blowing across my skin. It’s a beautiful, peaceful feeling!

  30. It’s so wonderful to see you, Phoebe! Hey, I have stage 3 kidney disease, so maybe that is where yours went?? Take your fluids and eat up your food, honey, and try not to bite the hand that’s giving you a pill. It’s nice that your Grammy gave you $5 instead of treats. Love, Roby & the Real Cats.

  31. dear, dear Phoebe. I hope you like the meme I did using your photo today on my blog. I am crushed to know that you have stage 4 kidney disease. This ugly disease takes too many of our cat pals from us and many far too soon. Sending my warmest purrs and paw pats.

  32. Thank you for the update, Phoebe. I’ve never heard of phosphorous binder before, but sure hope it will work for you. It’s good to hear you are strong enough to give your pawrents some chomps & scratches. I hope you get better, sweetheart. xo

  33. Phoebe – you do look wonderful! (From Snoops and Kommando – we got the pawsome toys your Mom sent for you. We never agree on anything, but we both love them. Thanks!)

  34. Dear Phoebe,
I chanced to see about you being sick on Katie’s blog, so we cam on over. Mom has become a dreadful secretary lately. Purring hard for you, sweetie. At my last checkup, we found out I am in early stages of kidney disease, so I drink a lot of water. But otherwise my bloodworks were good.
    Hang in there, dear girlie.

  35. With our Jackson when he was bad we would give him the fluids daily and we heated them with a large heating pad. He did not like cold Sub Q.

  36. We’re so glad you’re hanging in there, Phoebe. We’ve been worried about you. $5 and an extra visit from Grammie?!? You might want to hold out for more 😉
We love you and your Mom Phoebe … we just wanted to be sure you both know that.

  37. Oh, Phoebe, I was worried not seeing you these days, so my instict came to see you first, before doing my regular stuff. We didn’t know that you were so sick lately, as we had a busy week again and almost haven’t seen cyber-world at all… and now I feel guilty that I haven’t checked on you earlier…
You’re looking good my furriend and we hope that the phosphorus binder works properly on you. Will send you Healing Pawkisses and purray that you feel better soon <3 <3 <3

  38. Dear Little Phoebe, we know how special you are and how much you are loved … not just by your Mom and Dad … but also by many of us who have never met you! We pray you will feel better and be better soon, we all need you with us … and we also send purrs and prayers to your lovely Mom and wonderful Dad.

  45. Oh Phoebe, stay strong little lady! Although it sounds like you are if you’re still making your mom and dad bleed. How nice of your grammie to give you $5! I guess you can spend it on treats when you want them again. Sending you lots of love!

  46. Whatever you do, DO NOT stress about visiting. Family comes first – and this is what matters more than anything.

You can get support from your friends but you can’t hug a computer and Phoebe you need cuddles RIGHT NOW.

    Hang in there sweet lady.

  47. Oh Phoebe we are so sorry to hear you have stage 4 kidney disease and really hope you start eating by yourself soon. Looks like you’re in good hands with your smother and dad!
You look rather pretty in your photo. Hugs and purrs for you ❤️❤️?

  48. Oh sweetheart you are so pretty! I hope that med-i-cation from the vet makes you feel better. It sounds like your humans are doing the very best for you that they can. You remind Mom of the white kitty she had for 17 years that had kidney disease. You are very brave like he was. They used to give him fluids under the skin every other day. Hang in there my furr-iend. Hugs & purrs.

  49. Phoebe, I have just to say you look lovely dear and I am so grateful that you are getting the meds that you need AND taking them too, which shows you how much more of a lady, more of a Princess you are than I.
Excellent to keep your peeps on their toes by the odd nip here and there, I do it myself handworks wonders after the blood stops.
You hang in there my dear friend and I am sending lots and lots of all kinds of everything to help you get better.
Hugs paw kisses and gentle purrs to soothe any discomfort
    Erin XOX
