Thankful Thursday

Hi everyone! We are joining Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop.

I am thankful that an opportunity to live my word of the year (RESCUE) arose on the very first day of the new year.

I gave you a sneak peak on Wordless Wednesday. I am surprised no one realized this was a new face to the blog.

My cousin and his girlfriend broke up last year and his girlfriend moved to a place that she couldn’t take their cat. She ended up going back to her original owner, but the elderly cat there was very stressed about having another cat around. So when my cousin asked me, I said I would adopt her. I am thankful my hubby was agreeable to it even though he insists we have too many cats.

She has only been with me for 7 hours and is very stressed. I feel so bad for her. She was fine on the way home, but once I put the carrier in our bedroom (only Joanie and Rosie are in there) she freaked out and kept hissing and growling. I ended up giving her a room of her own for now, there is a screen door on the spare bedroom so hopefully she will adjust and make some friends. If not, I will have to let her have the room forever because once a cat is in this home, it is FOREVER.

I hope to have some photos soon. Penelope is 13, the same age as Penny and Elvira.

We are also joining Angel Sammy’s Poetry Day.  And here is the photo prompt provided:

Nothing like that first snow flake
almost as good as chocolate cake.
Gotta catch em before they hit the ground
where they turn yellow when peed on by a hound.
Here are the Friendly Fill-Ins for tomorrow. I came up with the first two and my co-host, Lorianne of Four-Legged Furballs came up with second two.

  1. Fantastic that you gave Penelope a home! I did think this kitty looked a little unfamiliar … Ha, your poem made me laugh! XO

  2. Welcome, Penelope!! Wow! You are pretty indeed!

We hope you’ll soon find that your new home is wonderful and that you’ll get over all the stress.

I giggled a lot at your funny poem!

Sorry I missed so many posts…work and all the holiday busy-ness got in the way…so:
    Happy New Year!!

  3. I did see it was a cat I was not familiar with. When I saw the photo but nothing else I wondered if your post had published properly. I know, it was Wordless Wednesday, duh!

  4. I forgot to say, welcome to Penelope. You are an angel to give her a home.

  5. What a sweet face Penelope has. We certainly hope that once you spend in her new home with you for a short while, that she gets used to the fact that she’s now living with a big family. A family with a big heart also.

  6. I didn’t recognize her as one of your crew but she is now. She is a pretty cat… I love her eyes. I hope she settles in. She has landed in a safe and wonderful place.
    Your poem cracked me up!

    1. Thank you. 🙂 She does have pretty eyes. I was hoping I would be able to dress her, but I hope to just be able to pet her. XO

  7. Actually I did wonder who that was. I thought that somehow, someway, I had missed seeing her though each cat has their day here, and it seemed unlikely. I am so sorry she is so stressed but you understand why. Perhaps she will be able to be at peace before long. She must surely miss her both parents too. She doesn’t understand why her world is gone. You won’t have the time really but if you find some, concentrated holding and loving, being held and murmured to, helped Robin when my middle son went to University. The other boys took up the lovins even more to comfort her. In his case, he sent cassettes of him talking to her. She glued herself to the speakers! He left messages of the answering machine for her to her…like you…we love our cats.

  9. Oona: “Oona understands, Penelope! It is tough to be the new cat in a house with established cats in it!”
Charlee: “What are you talking about? You waltzed in here and pretty much took over.”
Oona: “Yes Oona did and it was tough getting you two cats to fall in line.”
Chaplin (muttering): “You’re not the boss of—”
Oona: “SORRY OONA CAN’T HEAR YOU WHAT WAS THAT CHAPLIN???”
    Chaplin: “Um, nothing.”
Oona: “That is what Oona thought.”
Charlee: “Welcome to your forever home, Penelope!”

  10. Ellen my word I just thought she was a beauty. I know many of your kitties don’t like to take photos. But now that I think back on it you always id whomever is in the pic and you didn’t
Penelope darling I hope very soon you learn you are in a safe place. I’m so sorry for all the uncertainty you have had recently
    Hugs Cecilia
    PS love the poem

  11. Oh my, the poor girl. You have such a generous heart. I’ll bet she will come around in time, but is confused and scared right now. Perhaps try some Rescue Remedy to see if that helps her?

  13. Welcome Penelope! We know she is in a good home now and will get lots of love and support as she adjusts.
Sam Sam was very frightened and confused her first few days after coming to live with us 6 years ago, too.

  14. Oh, I said yesterday I didn’t know who that was. Welcome home sweetie, take your time adjusting, everyone there is super special, just like you. Thanks for joining Angel Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!

  15. We saw the kitty yesterday and thought you had just omitted telling us who she was – I thought she was one of the regulars that we don’t see very often. So welcome Penelope – believe it or not you have landed in a good place.

  16. I was definitely perplexed by yesterday’s post because I didn’t recognize the kitty! So glad you were able to give sweet Penelope a new home. She’s a very lucky girl!

  17. Welcome to cyber space you purrecious kitty. Granny says when she just saw you, that you have the expurression of our brother Angel in your face and you look a little like him too✨ We think in a few days you calm down in your new furrever home, as we know your auntie Ellen has a magic touch with all kind of kitties. Good Luck in your new furrever home, Penelope and here are some double Pawkisses just for you🐾😽💞

  18. You and your husband are so generous to bring another family member into your home! I hope Penelope gets comfortable and makes friends soon! I am joining you from Brian’s Thankful Thursday – I am number 16 on the linky if you would like to stop by!
