Thankful Thursday

Hi everyone! Check out my new scratcher that Grammie bought me on Wednesday. I love her so very much. I am joining Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop because I am very thankful for my Grammie.

Mom bought me some Greenies, she got Emmy a bag too.

I wanted party mix though, I am sick of Greenies-phooey!

And now for my poem for Sammy’s Poetry Day. We had a choice of 4 words that begin with A so I went with apples.

Apples
Some eat apples on a stick,
I wouldn’t even want a lick.
I prefer some meat,
that will get me to eat.
Dad bbq’s me some deer
that someone hunted last year.
So you can keep those apples
and even your snapples.

And now Mom wants to join the The Thursday Movie Picks Blog Hop hosted by Wandering Through the Shelves this week because she likes the theme, movies based on true events. She has chosen 3 films based on events that occurred in Massachusetts.

  1. The Fighter (2010)-A film about the boxer, “Irish” Mickey Ward. Mark Wallberg starred and Grammie and Mom were extras in the audience of one of the fight scenes. Cool huh?
  2. The Perfect Storm ( 2000)- Mark Wahlberg was also in this, but Mom isn’t hot for him like she is Nicolas Cage. It is a well done film about a storm in 1991 that caused the death of many fisherman.
  3. Black Mass (2015)- Johnny Depp as Whitey Bulger, the mobster from South Boston. Mom’s friend’s grandson almost got the role of Whitey’s son, but he was a little too old. Mom helped him practice his lines for his audition.

And here are the Friendly Fill-Ins for tomorrow. Mom came up with the first two and Annie of McGuffy’s Reader came up with the second two.

1. I challenge everyone to ________________________ this week.

2. I regret disposing of _____________________________.

3. I have a difficult time admitting                                .

4. If I were given a psychic power, I would like it to be                              .
I gotta go, Joanie is trying to take over my new scratcher.

  1. Coolio scratcher and FABULOUS “Apple” poem!!!! Bravo for taking on the challenge for poetry day. We will be filling in our fill-ins tomorrow……!

    Hugs, Teddy

  2. What a pretty pink scratcher, Phoebe! And we feel the exact same way about apples. We’ll take some yummy meat, and someone else can have the fruit. But we won’t keep you any longer, Phoebe, because you clearly need to go rescue your new scratcher!

  3. Ellen,

That poem is so cute and made me smile. lol I probably won’t be playing fill-ins tmorrow. I’ll just have to wait and see how today goes. Thanks for popping in for a visit! 😉

  4. That scratcher looks like a good one. We really like your apples poem. But apples really are not for kitties. Enjoy your day today.

  5. Cool scratcher, and sorry you didn’t get any Party Mix. That’s our favorite too.

  6. Phoebe, you can share that scratcher, you know! Chucky used to lick the apple that I was eating, but we quickly realized it caused gastric distress, so that bit of sharing ended abruptly! I loved to hear his raspy tongue on the apple…

  7. You may have the meat, and i will have the apples, and we will both be happy!

  8. That is a really cool scratcher. Between that and Greenies you are very lucky to have a Grammie as nice.
Zoe and Raja from Playing In Catnip

  9. That’s a fine scratcher you have. Mom saw The Perfect Storm years ago. She cried at the end, right in the theatre. So embarrassing! We’re just glad we weren’t around then.

    1. My Mom cried too. Tell your Mom that Petco has these on clearance and to go get you one.

    1. Thank you 🙂 Yes, he sure did. Someone else deaded it though, he hasn’t deaded one since 1998.

  11. I would like to answer the four fill in questions. Answers are as follows:
My answer to number 1. is: I challenge everyone to write a poem this week.
My answer to number 2. is: I regret disposing of addresses I thought I wouldn’t need anymore.
My answer to number 3. is : I have a hard time admitting I’m middle age.??
My answer to number 4. is: If I were given a psychic power, I would like it to be able to know the future.
Can’t wait to see everyone else’s answers.

    1. Thank you, I enjoyed your answers. I have also done that with addresses. We will definitely write a poem this week.

  12. That’s a great scratcher from your Grammie. You’re so lucky to have her to spoil you. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo and Cooper Murphy

  13. New scratchers are fun. Since someone already answered the questions, I guess I’ll try them.
    1. I challenge everyone to send me a present this week.
    2. I regret disposing of you’re talking to the wrong household. TW never disposes of anything except my stuff which I regret everything she’s ever gotten rid of that’s mine.
    3. I have a difficult time admitting I kinda like the peeps especially at mealtime.
    4. If I were given a psychic power, I would like it to be planting thoughts into TW’s head like to give me more food or order Chinese food or maybe I could order my own Chinese food by just thinking about it.

    1. Thank you for these great answers. I was planning to do all the challenges so I guess I need to send you a gift. 🙂 I knew you loved your peeps. XO

  14. That’s a great scratcher, Phoebe. Pierrot loves cardboard scratchers too. Joanie looks cute even if she is taking over.

Tell Sammy he wrote a great poem. We prefer meat to apples too!

    1. Thank you, it is a time share. Joanie sleeps in it and I get it during the day. Phoebe wrote the poem 🙂

  15. You sure have a nice new scratcher! Grammie was thinking of you fur sure, you sweetie!

  16. Simon says to not disturb Joanie !! I don’t like Greenies either. Paw kisses to my sweetheart Penny. ❤️❤️

    1. Joanie hogs the scratcher all night- phooey! Penny sends kisses. Emmy loves Greenies. XO

  17. Interesting choices for the Thursday three. Though I’m not a huge fan of any of the performers in The Fighter it was a decently intense film. The filmmakers did the best they could in translating The Perfect Storm from the book, which was very technical and precise in parts and very, very sad. Good performances, though Diane Lane was rather wasted. Haven’t seen the last, Depp isn’t the draw for me like he used to be before he became so lazy in his performances.

Films based on true stories are a genre that I gravitate towards so this was a pretty easy week to come up with picks. My last is one of my all-time favorite films.

Frost/Nixon (2008)-In 1977 well known showman David Frost (Michael Sheen) famous for glib interviews with pop stars is suffering a bit of a slump. He hits upon what he thinks is a surefire idea for a ratings grabbing showpiece. He sets out to interview former president Richard Nixon (Frank Langella), living in seclusion in San Clemente, CA after resigning in disgrace following the Watergate scandal. Nixon’s agent Swifty Lazar sure that it will be a puff piece encourages Tricky Dicky to take the sizable amount of money offered and run. The series of interviews get off to a rocky start with a loquacious and obdurate Nixon evading any sort of hard questioning but suddenly an unexpected breakthrough changes the course of the sessions into a revealing confessional. Sheen & Langella repeated their roles from the hit Broadway play that was the basis for the film which in turn was based on the actual interviews.

The Queen (2006)-In 1997 Queen Elizabeth II (Helen Mirren) has been on the English throne for 45 years, respected and beloved worldwide. Even more popular, though not within the royal family, is her former daughter-in-law Princess Diana whose marriage to Prince Charles had collapsed in acrimony after a decade of high exposure. She has since become a goodwill ambassador for many worthwhile causes as well as a paparazzi magnet and a bane to her former mother-in-law. When Diana is killed in a car accident caused by those same paparazzi hounding her the queen believes the proper course is a quiet funeral followed by a period of private mourning owing to the fact that Diana is no longer considered a member of the royal family. That turns out to be an almost catastrophic miscalculation that threatens the sovereignty of the throne and which requires new Prime Minister Tony Blair (Michael Sheen) to step in and guide her through to avert a disastrous outcome. Helen Mirren won an Oscar for her much lauded performance.

Inherit the Wind (1960)-Small town teacher Bertram Cates (Dick York-best known as the first Darrin on Bewitched) is arrested for teaching Darwin’s evolutionary theory to his students and put on trial. Representing him gratis is famed attorney Henry Drummond (Spencer Tracy) as the opposition is spearheaded by blustery litigator Matthew Harrison Brady (Fredric March) while wryly cynical newspaperman E. K. Hornbecker (Gene Kelly) observes and reports. As passions run high in the oppressive summer heat the local pastor Reverend Jeremiah Brown (Claude Akins) incites the townspeople with fiery rhetoric. A real acting showcase for both leads aided by a beautiful performance from Florence Eldridge (she was March’s spouse in real life) as Brady’s gentle wife who tries to temper his more outrageous behavior. Semi fictionalized version of the Scopes Monkey trial wherein famed lawyers Clarence Darrow & William Jennings Bryant fought in court over Darwin’s theory.

    1. I enjoyed Frost/Nixon. The other 2 sound good too, especially The Queen.

  19. I like the description of Perfect Storm. Only seen bits of this and I am yet to see The Fighter and Black Mass.

  20. I’m late here and no pussy cat would eat apples:) I love your picks for movies. I haven’t seen your first one but have seen Perfect Storm more than once and it’s well acted. I was hoping someone would pick Black Mass which was really well done and Johnny Depp gave an great performance. I actually thought he would have been up for an Oscar…get rid of Ryan Gosling. If I had a psychic power it would be to speak to the dead
