Tell All Tuesday

Hi everyone! I apologize for my blog disappearing on Monday. I use GoDaddy as a host for my wordpress blog and I let it expire. In doing that, they shut down my entire blog. I had to pay $150 recovery fee which is basically a legal ransom. As Phoebe would say, phooey! Being that I know nothing about the technical parts of blogging and I was in a panic about losing everything, I paid up plus I renewed for three years. And I thought trips to the vet expensive.

Everything seems to be back except some of Sunday’s comments and Monday’s post. I was told it takes 24- 72 hours to restore so if that stuff doesn’t reappear, I will contact them. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Thank you to those of you who emailed me to let me know there was a problem. It is nice to know that people care.

This is Prancie with the book I reviewed yesterday.

  1. Wow, I didn’t even know that could happen so fast. What a price tag! Phooey is right. Sheesh:(
We didn’t miss your post, because tonight is the first time in a few days that I could catch up in your blogs…else if we didn’t have to go to IE instead of Firefox, we might have (not)seen the Monday post. (We still cannot comment with in your blog in Firefox, only with IE…)

    1. Hey! We found the write up of your review! The inks just do not work anymore:(

It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading?
      by pilch92

Hi everyone! Today we are joining Book Date’s It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading blog hop and Comedy Plus’ Awww…Mondays.

I am sure many of you have heard of Norton the cat and read the 3 books his owner, Peter Gethers wrote about him back in the 1990’s. I wrote about them during the 2016 A-Z challenge, you can click here if you missed it.

Peter Gether’s latest book is a memoir/cookbook about his wonderful Mom titled, My Mother’s Kitchen. She had been a stay at home Mom to her two sons and a dutiful wife to her husband then at the age of 53 she started a career as a chef. She trained with Wolfgang Puck and became quite famous herself, even authoring several cookbooks.

I enjoyed learning more about the entire family. His mother was truly amazing, surviving 3 kinds of cancers and a stroke. She proved that attitude really does matter in recovering from illnesses. She also loved cats and would cat sit for her son’s cats. Norton used to travel with him, but after he passed, the other cats did not.

The author wanted to honor his Mom by cooking some of her favorite meals. This gives him quite an education in cooking too and a chance to bond with many friends. I learned several cooking tips and I plan to try some recipes too. If you are interested in reading it, here is the Amazon link.

I chose Prancie to pose with the book because Norton was a Scottish fold and Prancie reminds me of one because of her ears ( hers was frostbitten though).

So now you can copy that back into your post when you want to have it back up:)
      Prancie posed furry nicely!

        1. Now all you need is that copy paste helper thingy.MOL!!! I wasn’t sure if I should do that but something urged me to get it done. Goad I could be of help:)

  2. Wow! I’m so sorry that this happened and it cost so much to get back your blog back online. Thankfully, you don’t have to worry about that part of it for 3 years now!

We’ve had paid blog hosting before, but I don’t remember that ever happening to us. We used only the free ones right now because that is what is in our current budget. But, it works okay for us for now.

That looks like a very interesting book. πŸ™‚

    Have a blessed night.

    1. Thank you, after all my vet expenses, it was another one I didn’t need, but I had to restore everything. I hope you have a blessed night too.

      1. The only real problem that I have encountered with going with a free site is that some affiliate programs will not accept your blog unless it is paid site or self-hosted or whatever they’re calling it these days. You have to own the domain, not be using something like Blogger or the free WordPress.com. It is frustrating, but if I like a company or product (like Newspaper.com), I will give them press anyway, even though they won’t let me be an affiliate.

  3. Oh my goodness, what a time you must have had with that. I must have visited before that all happened, as I saw and commented on your post yesterday morning. When I look right now your post from yesterday is gone, but at least they warned you it could could take 24-72 hours for all to reappear. Whew. Technology sure can add to our stress levels. Wishing you a better day today!

    1. Most is back, except some of Sundays comments and everything from Monday- I don’t think those are coming back.

  4. MY gosh. I have a go-daddy domain that I am letting go of when it runs out but I don’t use it to do anything but email. I have 5 email accounts so I don’t mind letting it go. That $150.00 is a terrible price to have to pay, Ellen! I am sure you asked them to not assess that charge. Sometimes they will throw us a bone. Prancie, go bite them!

    1. I was so worried about losing everything that I just agreed to everything they said I needed to do- I am gullible.

  5. Yowza! I’m so glad it got sorted. I decided to wait a day and see how things looked since you have so many followers. I didn’t want to further inundate your inbox. ~grin~ Happy Blogging! And thanks for the kind comment on my writing. I bet you have more willpower than you think. Heck, just taking care of so many furbabies is quite an accomplishment! Be well.

    1. Thank you πŸ™‚ Yes, taking care of 13 cats is a full time job-well, it feels like one.

  6. Yesterday all I saw was what looked like a go daddy ad … and I don’t know about this stuff… I just figured I’d look again today and here you are so I’m happy!

  7. Prancie, you are one beautiful feline! As much as it’s frustrating to not have my own domain sometimes – it also avoids issues such as these. I’m considering changing to my own domain – but it seems formidable and overwhelming to consider everything. It seems like I’d be completely lost and not be able to manage things myself. I’m glad it worked out for you … though that was a pretty hefty restore fee.

    1. As long as you are careful and pay attention to the date, you won’t have to worry about restoring.

  8. Argh, we’ve not had this happen, so we can’t help. But we’re glad you’re back!

  9. Another site i used to read used GoDaddy and had this kind of trouble. It seems they don’t tell you ahead when to renew because they want to be able to charge you the extra to recover your site. Sad.

    1. They did email me last week, but I am a dip and never pay attention to the date. It still seems pricey to restore it though.

  10. Mee-you Prancie mee an LadyMum saw rite away yesterday tha tthee bloggie was inn visibull an mee had LadyMum quik email Lady Ellen!! GoDaddy are not hertin fur $money$ an such a cost to keep on blogging!! PHOOEY! DUBBULL PHOOEY!!!!

        1. I love you my sweet boy, I am so blessed to have you as my one and only. XO and paw kisses and nose rubs too.

  11. So happy to see you back. When I first saw the redirect to a WordPress blog I thought you were changing themes or going to a dot org… And yeah, that pretty much stinks to make you pay a hundred and fifty bucks. I pay to keep ads off my blog and I missed my date and they tried to charge me twice. I also pay for a domain. So I am paying for domain fees and no ads and I am not even blogging but that is my fault…. πŸ™‚

    1. I wish you would blog πŸ™‚ I didn’t even earn $150 blogging last year, but I think of it as a journal and I like having all the posts and comments.

      1. I think that thinking of your blog as a journal is a good thing and takes some of the pressure off… for me… to get a post put together and up. I just think that I overthink posting so much that I then PROcrastinate. Like back in the days… way back, when I used to have to do homework πŸ˜€

  12. Ellen we are so sorry you got trapped into paying that…recovery fee. Dang…I’m sure that is the type of info that is not mentioned when one signs up and BANG you are hit with it. Bless your heart but I know the panic. In March just briefly before we bought our new computer all of a sudden I rec’d this message from “microsoft’ my computer was hacked and to call blah blah. First thing I did was shutdown thinking it was a glitch. Still there so after several reboots I called the number. Oh they were all sympathetic etc and oh yes they were contracted by microsoft (it was a very good lie) they could help and would I like to have a 1, 2,3 or 4 year contract with them? Well no I about to get a new computer so just a year….please. OH but we can add your new computer to our service. Just call us with all the details. STUPID ME bought in hook line and sinker. I paid considerably more than you. Not 2 days later there was a big story on the news about Ransom Ware. That was exactly what happened to us.
They were the hackers and made it look like a microsoft problem. Needless to say they did not get any info on my new computer.
    Hugs Madi and Cecilia

  13. Wow! We bet that was scary. Several years ago, our blog disappeared but luckily Mom Paula was able to get it back when she contacted Blogger. Glad to see you back.

  14. Whoa! That’s some ransom! It’s concerning if they didn’t send you a notice that it was expiring since my domain is under godaddy. Mo went through the same thing with Purrchance to Dream. Glad you’re up and running now.

  15. I use their automatic renewal although badcatchris is not on GoDaddy. It is a WordPress.com site and I still have to remember to renew.

    1. I wonder if i went through just wordpress if I would have had the same problem?
