Hi everyone! We are joining The Cat on My Head’s Sunday Selfie Blog Hop .

Brody wasn’t exactly willing to participate.

Rosie is trying to choose which of the 3 tunnels to run through.

Sammy is all tuckered out from being with me 24/7.

 

And look what I found right out my front door-Morel mushrooms. I rarely spend time outside, but I was out there with my mom and sister waiting for my niece to stop by with her 2 kids ( The Great One and her sister). I spotted these and thought they looked like morels so I got my hubby and he looked them up in his mushroom book. After my company left ( we stayed outside and kept apart), I watched 2 youtube videos to be sure they weren’t the false ones which are poisonous, but these were the real thing- and very tasty. We love mushrooms and have shitake and hen of the woods ones started in oak logs that we hope to harvest this year. Have you ever found morels? Tasted them?

  2. Wow, how cool that you have mushrooms outside! We don’t get them here, and if they do show up, they are toadstools, which are poisonous.

    1. A lot of them are poisonous which is why I watched some videos to be sure.

  4. Morels! How cool is that! We have them in our yard sometimes, too…and there are hunters in our county, they hunt for that delicacy!

    You are lucky to get those mushrooms growing by your front door. We get field mushrooms growing here, but I have to pick them before the horses eat them.

  13. I love mushrooms, but never had morels. Such a cute photo of Brody, even if he didn’t want his photo taken:) Great looking tunnels and the photo of Sammy is so cute. Have a Happy Mother’s Day Ellen and enjoy your day with the sweet furbabies.

  17. Glad you did all that checking first. We have never had mushrooms, Dad doesn’t like them at all, but Mom does. We found two itty bitty mushrooms growing out of a crack in our deck – how does that happen?

    I took a mushroom biology class once. The teacher said “if you can’t identify it, don’t eat it”. Good that you double-checked your mushroom.

    Maybe Brody wasn’t giving a raspberry but trying to lick the camera and wanted to give you and the rest of us kiss, do you think? We don’t care for the taste of mushrooms but more importantly is we both have mild allergies to them, so we stay clear of them. Do be extra careful when eating wild mushrooms. There are some real horror stories of people accidentally poisoning themselves. Take care and be well, my friend! xx

    We found morels in our yard last year, but none this year. Hopefully they’ll reappear in 2021.

  31. Brody, we think your selfie is absolute purrfection! Rosie, picking a tunnel is never an easy feat for the kitties around here either. My parents’ kitties have that same large red and gold tunnel, and I just learned this weekend that they actually enjoy when I join them in it. Sammy, we hope you get some well-deserved rest! As for mushrooms, I’m admittedly not a big fan. I think it’s the texture. Mushroom texture always gets me. Purrs!
