  27. Ever since Coolidge passed after being with us for 17 years, I remember him very well. My wise vet said it would help me through my grief if I got another cat right away. We found Effie , right out of the shelter and sent to Petco. I named her Effie because she had no name. The girl who brought her in was unable to keep her because of a rental issue. So there was Effie, and she rescued me. Four years later, Paladin , a handsome tabby came into our lives. He showed up for meals. He wouldn’t come into the house but he ate outside and I hung out with him on the patio. It finally occurred to me to get him neutered, and he became domestic right off the operating table. He entered our home for the first time and explored every room. He immediately understood the purpose if the litter box. He adored Effie and they are the same age and great chums. Paladin also loves his people as much as we love him.
