#Remember Me Thursday

Hi everyone. We are joining Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop.

We are also joining Lola’s hop for #Remember Me Thursday.  A day to spread the word about pet adoption.

I am thankful for all my cats, most showed up in my yard, but Sammy and Joanie were adopted from a shelter. Back in May of 2010, I already had 13 cats as well as my niece and her cat living with us. She ended up fostering a cat that I wanted to adopt, he looked a lot like Sammy. She knew my hubby didn’t want anymore cats so she found a home for the other cat. I was so upset that I looked on Petfinder for a doppleganger.  That is when I spotted Sammy at a local shelter. I filled out the paperwork and got approved despite letting them know I already had 13 cats.

When I went to get Sammy, I discovered he was with his sister, Megan( I changed her name to Joanie-my mom’s name). The shelter worked said they didn’t have to be adopted together and that their other sibling was already adopted. This broke my heart as they were already 4 years old. There was no way I was separating these two. I didn’t have the $70 for her so I left the money there for Sammy and said I would come back on Monday. I didn’t want to take Sammy away from his sister. That was the best decision I ever made. My hubby was mad at me, but he got over it. He loves them both.

I can’t imagine my life without these two. They will be 15 on the 30th which scares me because I know our time together is getting short.

If your pet was adopted please share your story. You can help a shelter of your choice win much needed funds and supplies. To learn more, click here.

Here are the Friendly Fill-Ins for tomorrow. I came up with the first two and my co-host, Lorianne of Four-Legged Furballs came up with second two.

  1. You have a heart of gold ensuring that Sammy and Joanie weren’t separated. Your hubby knows how much you love all cats so couldn’t be mad for long.

  2. Just enjoy every second of time you have with those two cuties. It’s the best we can do – they live their lives so quickly compared to humans and the time just goes by so fast. Let’s hope they have lots more time to enjoy being in the very best FOREVER HOME they could have!!!

    Hugs, Pam and Teddy

  3. This story is filled with so much love that it touched my heart so deeply and made me cry! They are so blessed to have you as their mom! 🙂 <3

  4. I truly enjoyed the pure love in your story. A woman after my own heart. Katie told her story when she was adopted.

  5. What a lovely post about a brother and sister. I’m so happy you have the both of them. They are together as they should be.

I’m all ready for tomorrows Friendly Fill-ins.

Have a fabulous Thankful Thursday, Ellen. Scritches to all the kitties. ♥

  6. You are a kind person. When I adopted Mollie she was an 18 month old with a litter. Only one kitten was left and he was at least 3 months old. They were caged together and got along so well. After filling out the adoption papers for Mollie, I went home and bawled my eyes out. I couldn’t bear to separate them. I called them but he had already been adopted. I was ok with that. I didn’t want him to be in a cage by himself. Now if that happens I will do it on the spot. What’s one more cat?

  7. Such a sweet story, adoptions are just the best and here’s to many, many more…and then some! Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!

  8. Awww on Thursday! What a sweet and heartfelt story. When we adopted Callie they had marked the cages if the kitty had a sibling. I like the idea because good people like you will adopt the pair so they can stay together.

  9. We are so glad to hear the stories of Sammy P and Joanie. They are a wonderful couple of kitties and we are so glad you took them both home. We are looking forward to their Birthdays and many more to come.

  10. I just love happy endings and that is what today is all about – I’m glad you found those sweeties together and took in the abandoned kitties in your neighborhood – you are a Superhero Ms. Ellen!

    **purrss** BellaDharma

Hello Ellen: What a cool story about Joanie & Sammy. I didn’t know about them. My story about BellaDharma is very bittersweet. From 2017til 2018 Purrince Siddhartha & I would check the County Shelter site & see ‘Bella’ day after day. She went out in 2017 for adoption & returned to shelter in 2 weeks. And she was there til June of 2018 & got adopted again & was back by end of July! P SH rubbed the laptop as soon as he saw her photo again…nitely even! After he left this world I made a snap decision! I got a ride & went out to County Shelter to ‘meet’ ‘Bella’…when I saw her my heart melted. She looked so sad & tiny & forlorn so I adopted her straightaway.
It took her from Sept.2018-January 2019 to come out of her shell & actually start interacting with me & hanging out in livingroom. She lived in bedroom all those months leaving ONLY to use litter in bathroom. Then she freaked out for a few months & with the help pf bloggers & Vet we got BellaDharma’s behaviours under control. She is actually a ‘semi-feral’ cat & I’d NO idea. Fast forward to 2 years with me & BellaDharma is a happy inquisitive even mischievious kitty girl. And a lap cat even! I named her Dharma in memory of Purrince Siddhartha…I adopted BellaDharma to give her the Life she deserved & because this life should have been P SH’s. He would be 6 years old now; BellaDharma is 8 years old….it just seemed the right thing to do Ellen. (Sorry this is so long! Never a short story from THE Purrfect Pad! LOL 🙂
    (((hugs))) Sherri-Ellen

    1. That is bittersweet. I am glad you kept your heart open after losing Purrince Siddhartha. I know he would have wanted you to be with her. XO

      1. I agree Ellen. We watched over BellaDharma for 2 years. ‘;d NO idea I would lose P SH so soon…it felt ‘right’ to adopt BellaDharma to give her the home that should have been P SH’s for a much longer time….sort of a Karmic circle!

  12. Our Jackie is the daughter of a barn cat we rescued. Our dogs are former strays. We try to do what we can, and they are so worth it! Thank you for giving so many furbabies a loving forever home!

  13. Aw this is a wonderful story. You made the right decision for sure! As you know, our Lucy (we thought) was a feral, but after getting her spayed I quickly learned that she was not feral. I could not bring her to a shelter (likely certain death) or put her back out in the cold (it was winter), so I kept her. She’s been a wonderful kitty so far.

  17. What a perfectly wonderful adoption story, Mom Ellen. Thank you for adopting Sammy and Joanie together, and for loving them so much!

  18. I love that you adopted Joanie and Sammy together and your husband got over it MOL. It also makes me sad when I realize the cats are getting older too.

  19. Thank you for keeping Joanie and Sammy together. It makes me sad when siblings are split up but I totally understand why too

  21. Sammy and Joanie’s story is such a beautiful one. I am so glad they have you. And I’m not surprised one bit that these two won over your husband. They’re such cute sweeties that it would be impossible to not love them. I pray every day that all cats and dogs could know the love of a forever home.
