Penny’s Tips Volume 17

Hi everyone. Before we get started, we ask that you please purr and pray for our friend Minchie, he is not feeling well. You can visit by clicking here.

We are joining Comedy Plus’ Tuesday Fun Blog Hop. This week, I have a tip about hydrangea, actually it is not an actual penny tip. It is an old wives’ tale that planting pennies around hydrangeas will make them turn blue. That is not true.

(Don’t worry, Mom took the photo and then Dad planted this outside).

If you want blue hydrangea, you need to lower your soil’s ph. To do this, you water with 1 Tablespoon of aluminum sulfate in 1 gallon of water, you do this once a month for 3 consecutive months.

I won’t get to do my tips for the next two weeks because Mom has Chewy reviews to do, I don’t know why she has to cut into my day, there are 6 other days.

Did you see where Moo visited last week? If not, click here.

  1. Gee! That was a pawsome tip.
    Mum did not know that.
We have flowers outside only as some of us have been known to nibble plants :/
    Purrs Georgia,Julie and JJ

  2. Well Penny you might not be giving us tips but we will think of you anyway! We don’t know Minchie but we will certainly send POTP because we know it helps kitties who aren’t well. We think Moo has been having a ball – she will sure be a well traveled cow when she gets back home!

    Hugs, Teddy

  3. Ellen,

My MIL loved hydrangeas and she had some of the purrrtiest plants. I’d love to get some of the clippings but I don’t recall seeing the bushes when we were home for my FIL’s funeral. Perhaps when we go back to get the rest of our stuff I see if they are still there and if so, do you have any tips on the best way to go about transplanting them? I’m don’t have much of a green thumb.

    1. I looked it up and you can take cutting in August or Sept. from a non flowering shoot.

  4. Meowser, Mom tells a story about a certain someone who planted pennies in her sandbox when she was 3 or 4 because she wanted to grow a money tree. Humans are so silly.
I’ve added Minchie to my purrayers. >^.^<

  5. Prayers for Minchie. It’s so hard when they get old and sick. So hard.

I didn’t know this about the flowers. I don’t have a green thumb at all.

I don’t know why mom has to have your day too. You know I’ll always take your side on things.

Moo seems to be having a great time.

Have a purrfect Tuesday Fun. My best to your peeps. ♥

  6. Our mom tried to grow hygrangea and it lived for two years but then died. We think you should be able to do your tips, no fair!

  7. Poor Minchie, i hope he gets well quickly.

Hydrangias are lovely, i thought you had to buy them in different colors like so many other plants. It’s fascinating to me that you can change them this way.

  8. We have to catch up on your blog! It’s a good thing we don’t have a garden, because our mom would kill all the flowers. Just sayin’. We’re praying for Minchie, and we’re going to check out where Moo was. We’re SO behind in reviews! Lexy and I are sick of posing for photos!

  9. That’s a very pretty hydrangea. I never heard about the penny idea but now I won’t try it! I did read something about coffee grounds but I guess that raises the acidity?
    Kisses to the kitties!
    xxoo

  10. I am not sure about the blue bit. Isn’t it Potassium tht makes Hydrangeas blue? There might have been traces of the element in pennies in the olden days, do you think?

Yeah, Minchie. We are all sad and worried.

  12. All paws crossed here for Minchie.

We don’t have any hydrangeas here, but Mom says that Cape Cod has beautiful ones.

Woos – Lightning, Misty, and Timber

    1. Yes, the Cape has gorgeous blue ones- I wonder if it is because of being near salt water.

  13. We all hope Minchie will be feeling better soon. We will also be looking forward to your chewy reviews, but we will be right back here for your tips in two weeks. Thanks for the share. Have a great day. Get well Minchie!!

  15. I’ve never tried growing hydrangeas, but if I ever do I will certainly keep this tip in mind. When it comes to gardening, I need all the help I can get.

We are sending lots of purrs and prayers to sweet Minchie!

    1. This is the only one we know of, but we live in New England so there are not as much to choose from as other areas.

  16. I never heard pennies, but I did hear coffee grounds? Yes or no? I’ve been thinking about trying to get mine to turn blue, but I’d like to use something I already have around the house.

  17. Well, Penny, if I were one of those hydrangaes I would turn the colors of the rainbow if you brushed up against my petals. Winky winks.

  18. That’s a great tip, Penny! I can’t believe your segment is being pre-empted for other content. You should call your agent! 🙂

  19. Aaaaaaaaaaaaw Penny, your tips are the bestest. Those sure are purretty flowers, but they can’t hold a candle to you. Big hugs

    Luv ya’
