Penny’s Tips Volume 160

Hi everyone!   I have some money saving tips for Thanksgiving for you today. I also have some deals for our veterans to score on Veteran’s Day.

Now my Thanksgiving tips may not appeal to the foodies out there, but if you are not very picky about your turkey, they will be fine. First off, buy a frozen one as they are cheaper. And my other tip is to cook it in a Reynold’s cooking bag. You will save time and money on electric or gas, depending on what kind of stove you have. Mom cooks our turkey in the bag and it only takes a few hours to cook a big stuffed turkey- and trust me, it tastes great- we all get samples.

And now for our veterans who we are most thankful for. Here are some deals you can score on Veteran’s Day.

You can get a free donut at Dunkin Donuts, but you have to go inside for it. And Krispy Kreme will give a coffee and a donut.

Applebee’s, Chili’s  and Olive Garden have free meals for those eating in-restaurant.

Subway has a free 6 inch sub and Wendy’s is giving away a free breakfast combo.

And some retail deals include Reebok-40 % off, Target 10 % off and Walgreens 20% off.

Well, that is all I have for this month. Rosie will be back next week with lots to report as the girls will be here today and next Monday.

  1. Ollies has a 10% discount for veterans on the first Tuesday of each month. Not sure what if any discount they give on Veteran’s Day, which is a Monday this year.
I have used those cooking bags many times for turkey and also for other meats. While not as brown as being oven roasted they come out tender and yummy!! We don’t eat the skin anyways, LOL!!!
Nor do we take pictures of the roasted turkey, we carve it (Tear it, more than carving, LOL), before bringing it to the table.

    Have a great Tuesday!

  2. I like that baking bags too although I’ve never used it for a turkey. We are not turkey fans in this house so at most it’s only once a year. The past few years we’ve gone with something else instead.

  4. Good money saving tips, Penny! For years, I’ve been buying the small boneless turkey breast (kind of looks like a small roast) with a gravy packet. I use to use the baking bags but stopped because they kind melt a bit in places which concerned me. Maybe, the plastic is offing gasses that’s getting into my food, so I stopped. Now, I just cook one or two small turkey roasts in pan. After they cool, I slice them up and put one in a small glass baking dish with the gravy packet contents. The other, I wrap thoroughly to use as needed. It works fine for the two of us. I prepare all dishes ahead of time which makes Thanksgiving Day much easier and I can get out smaller amounts to heat if it’s just for us, which saves money because I don’t heat up everything. Now, you got me wanting turkey and the fixings. Yum!

  5. You’re so cute, Penny and you always have such wonderful ways to save money. I love all the veteran savings. Well deserved.

Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. Big hug to mom and lots of scritches to all her kitties. ♥

  6. Whoa…those are some great Veterans Day deals. We love cooking in those bags…so much easier to clean up too and the turkey is absolutely moist and tender.
