Nosey Rosie’s Gabfest

Hi everyone! Did you miss me last week?

Lots going on around here. My folks have an annual holiday open house every year and this year it is on Sunday so mom is freaking out. You know how some people have dreams about being unprepared for a test? Well, she dreams it is the day of the party and there are no decorations or food and she still has some gifts to get.

She has a lot of cleaning and cooking to do. She makes lasagna, lazy pierogi, spinach dip, a cheeseball, oreo truffles, peanut butter fudge and lots of other stuff. She is going to make a sharketurie cheese board too. I will have to hide because the Beasty Girls will be here. And a couple other kids too.

( bottom level of Lola’s house)

Mom had to move Lola’s house from the dining room table. She thought it would be safe in the bedroom, but Joanie knocked the top 2 floors down. Good thing Lola and her parents were on the lower level. I think Joanie is jealous that Lola got to go visit The Great One and Typhoid Mary last week and she didn’t. Plus when she wants a snack at night, she tries to wake mom up by licking her face. That didn’t work so she must have known knocking down Lola’s house would get her out of bed.

Funny story- mom told dad there was a dead bird in the driveway and to remove it. Turns out it was a Milkweed pod. I guess mom should wear her glasses for more than reading.

My folks made horseradish last night- my poor little lungs. Man that stuff stinks. My mom always jokes that you know you are Polish when the only thing you use the blender for is to make horseradish.

Everyone else has been good because they know Santa is watching.

See you next week.

PS: Happy is dressed for Christmas.

  1. Rosie, what adorable pictures of you! Thanks for the news, it sounds like everything is really busy, and also very festive, at your house! XO

  2. Oh, Rosie, I guess we are not Polish around here as mama has a ready-made jar of horseradish to make remoulade sauce for shrimp and things, easy peasy, and we KNOW that feeling of not being ready for a gathering. We always have a New Year’s party for our friends here but there are 30 or so and we haven’t had them during covid times. Now mama can sleep better, haha. GOOD luck for your party. Please take a pic or two for us lowly stayathome reader who will not be kicking up their heels this year except in small gatherings. And the food sounds yummy. Good luck with all, chef.

    1. Your party is even bigger than ours. We would give you some horseradish if we could. XO

  3. Rosie we can’t imagine having that much activity at OUR house – but hearing what’s going on there sure makes our life here look BORING! LOL Your open house is something I am sure everyone looks forward to every year……your Mom and Dad are wonderful to host it. Hope it’s tons of fun. Since the Beastie Girls will be there you might want to prepare your hiding spot ahead of time!

    Hugs, Teddy

  4. I love horseradish sauce but have never tried making my own. I get a locally made one and it is so hot it makes my eyes water!
Your mom is used to her entertaining so I am sure she will be fine with getting everything done. I panic if I am having more than 6 people and that includes me and Ivor!

    1. Thank you. 🙂 We only have a party once a year so I do stress. It is easy to make- you buy some ( we grow it) and peel it, grind it in the food chopper then we put it in the blender with vinegar.

  5. Rosie, it sounds like it’ll be a fun weekend for your human parents when people come to visit and have a wonderful meal. The problem is is it seems like it is snowing inside your house. They may have to keep their coats on just like kitty cats do.

  6. Rosie, what a great weekend! The whole family and all your friends and neighbors too! My mom would not have the courage. 🙂 Happy sure looks good, all dressed up in her hat! Mom said she’s LURVE some peanut butter fudge!

  7. Wow, Rosie! There is a lot going on at your house. I am sure mom will be ready for the party because she is a pro. Btw, I love horseradish sauce but hubby doesn’t so I don’t get to enjoy it.

  8. OMCs I will be attending that wonderful day virtually…Amazing
I know everyone will be in awe of food and decor
    Hugs Cecilia

  9. I missed you Rosie! You wore me out just reading what all your Mom has to do to get ready for the open house. Too bad about Lola’s house but I bet your Mom and the girls will get it all fixed up. SSNS and I are always seeing leaves on the driveway or sidewalk and thinking they are dead somethings. Happy looks HAPPY! Rosie, thank you for all news about the open house… I would love to be there. It’s going to be a happy festive time!

  10. I always miss you, Rosie. I love hearing from all of you.

I’m coming over for moms party. I love lasagna.

Sorry my linkies didn’t work for a bit today. I have auto renew, but it didn’t seem to work. All is well now.

Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. Scritches to the kitties and a hug to mom. xo ♥

all wayz open ! we bet they even wood sell her a lasagna 🍻🍕🍕🍕🍕
and we cracked UP bout de milkweed pod….😺😺😺😺😺😺‼️

  12. I have found a few real live dead birds in our yard…but not in the driveway. Yours truly has to be the one to give them funerals…as well as the more than a few dead mice and moles that the pups find in their digging exploits. The milkweed pod?? Bwahaha!! Good one!

You are one brave if not way too busy lady with your open house! Does hubby help you prepare at all?? I would have a panic attack…but thankfully we don’t do that…our house would not be able to contain all those peeps, let alone where to put all the food! I think the most we’ve ever had in our house was a family of 6, plus us four…and that was YEARS ago! We had to find another table…and chairs, too.

Joanie, we didn’t know you could be so naughty…and right before Christmas!! MIOL! Hope Lola’s house was fixable.

    We like Happy’s Christmas Selfie!

    1. Our house is not really big enough for 25 people. but we manage. Yes, hubby helps. XO

***nose kissess*** BellaDharma an {{{huggiess}}} BellaSita Mum

    1. Yes, her mom is 100% Polish and her dad was 50% French. Yes, my folks cry when they make it, well, it looks like they are crying. Mom thanks you for the pep talk. She has been hosting since 1991. XO

  14. It’s wonderful that you’re having a get-together. I know only too well the pressure that comes with tidying, cleaning and cooking. It sures seems like your Mom is taking on a lot! I hope the kids don’t act up on top of everything.

As for being Polish, my husband was brought up with all the traditions. Pierogi is one of his favorites, but he’s not shy of horseradish, that’s for sure. I have a joke I made up, hope it doesn’t offend. What do you call an incontinent Polish person? A PEE ROGUEY!

    1. MOL! That is a funny joke. 🙂 I am sure the kids will be good. I love having them here. Only problem is I have to host and won’t get to play. XO

  15. Hello sweet Rosie! WOW, it sure does sound busy at your place and yes, those are all very good reasons to hide!

  16. Your mom is super talented. ~nods~ The idea of hosting a party makes me tired just thinking about it. That blender joke made me giggle. I grew up not too far from Parma, Ohio and always appreciated Polish dishes. In my thirties I was shocked to learn the rest of my family never ate pierogi until I introduced them. ~shakes head~ Even store bought ones are yummy.

Tell your mom to please not stress and perhaps get some help if possible. Hugs to you and yours.

PS I did miss you last week. 😀

    1. Thank you. I love pierogi, but I am too lazy to make real ones so I do the lazy ones and buy store bought too. A lot of local churches sell them too. XO

  17. Chaplin: “Hi Rosie! Good to see you!”
Charlee: “Our Dada likes that horseradish stuff! Apparently they serve it in green paste form at the sushi place and you smush it in the soy sauce to make it spicy.”
    Oona: “Spicy fish? Bleccch.”
Charlee: “Dada likes it, for some reason … He says that many years ago he went to get sushi with a salesman from work and the salesman had never been to a sushi place before and thought the green stuff was some kind of minty palate cleanser and was going to put a big wad of it right into his mouth. Fortunately Dada stopped him before he did it!”
