It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading?

We are joining McGuffy’s Reader’s Sparks (even though she is on hiatus), Comedy Plus’ Awww….Mondays and Book Date’s It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading?

River of Time: My Descent into Depression and How I Emerged with Hope by Naomi Judd with Marcia Wielke was excellent. I have read all her previous books and admired her honesty in telling all the details of her life, mistakes and all. This book is the same as she gives all the details of her severe depression including being so desperate that she endured electroshock therapy. It seems hard to believe that someone so successful could get into such a deep depression, but heredity plays a role in this too.

I’ve Been Thinking . . .Reflections, Prayers, and Meditations for a Meaningful Life by Maria Shriver is also well worth reading. Each chapter tells a lesson she has learned in life as well as a prayer or meditation at the end to tie in with the lesson. I have always admired the Kennedy family’s dedication to the service of helping others less fortunate.

My spark for today is a quote from Maria Shriver, “Time is our most precious resource, but very few of us use it as wisely as we could. We rush around so much that sometimes we forget to actually live. ”

Joanie was not particularly cooperative for her photo shoot.

Penny will be here tomorrow with one of her tips and Wednesday we will be showing photos of Moo’s first stop.

  1. Sounds like some great reads……I think Joanie had a “to do” list she was following that didn’t included a photo shoot! HAHA

    Hugs and Happy Monday

  2. Dad just finished Madeleine Albright’s “Fascism: A Warning”. He usually sticks to thriller/crime fiction, but wanted to read this very current, very real book. He could also relate very closely to “River of Time” as his family is mired in depression pretty much nonstop.

  3. Two great reviews of two good sounding books. Joanie, we like that picture. You all have a really nice day.

  4. Awww on Joanie. You have so many Awww worthy kitties.

Love your quote. I’m living and I think you are too.

I’m reading The Bad Daughter by Joy Fielding. A very good book that is hard to put down.

Have a purrfect Awww Monday. Scritches to all the kitties. ♥

  5. I just love the quote you chose for your Spark. That is a concept I really started to realize as I reached adulthood, and I try live by it every day. Rushing around through life is no life at all. You have to stop and smell the roses, too. And you’re not alone, Joanie. Around here, Eddy thinks that photo shoots are just too boring, so there is no cooperation on her part. Happy Monday!

  6. What a sweet photo — in spite of uncooperativeness! MOL! Love that quote. I, for one, could be so much better at using the time I’m given. Great reminder! Have a beautiful day! 😀

  7. Joanie, you sit still for your close-up next time, okay? I’m reading “A $500 House in Detroit”, and I’ve met the author! Also picked up “Midnight at the Bright Ideas Bookstore” but haven’t cracked the cover yet.

  8. I agree with you Joanie, we are cats, we don’t have to cooperate.
The quote from the book is a nice one. Human are always running and wasting their precious time.

  9. Well, you know, Joanie, you’ve been very helpful and cooperative lately, you don’t need to do that ALL the time. The books… yeah… depression can be a very nasty condition.

  10. joanie; my stars I am never cooperative when it comes to photo shoots; why in my 15 years I think I can count on one paw the amount of times I have been ~~~~~~~
