Happy Sweet Sixteen Madi!

Hi everyone!  Today is a special day in the Blogosphere, everyone’s BFF , Madi is turning 16. She asked that we all tell how we learned to drive or about a road trip.

My Dad taught me how to drive. I went to driver’s ed too, but my very patient Dad taught me and let me drive him around with my permit. My first car was a 1976 bright blue AMC Gremlin. It did not have power steering and it had a long hood so I had a lot of fender benders ( luckily no one was ever harmed). I even had shades to match the color of the car. 🙂

And now Joanie wants a turn.

My brother, Sammy teached me to drive in his car.I am only 12 though so I am not old enough to drive-don’t tell.

I hear the Crotchety Cougars took Madi on a road trip.Click here

Living, Laughing and Barking in Our Backyard is hosting the hop-click here.

We are also joining The Cat on My Head’s Selfie Sunday Blog Hop too.

Happy Birthday Madi!!!!

  1. I don’t drive – I have a chauffeur! And sometimes I wonder about her driving ability.

I hope Madi has an awesome birthday!

  2. its great to have a very patient daddy ;O))) the dad of the mama was not such much patient and the driving lessons became a spectacle for the whole neighborhood ;O)))

  3. Now that’s a nice “ride” Joanie. I promise not to tell that you took a test drive in it. I am sure that Madi is going to have a lot of fun reading all the posts in her honor today for her SWEET SIXTEEN! Happy Sunday.

    Love, Teddy

  4. A Gremlin… cool! I would love to see a picture of you with that vehicle! Your Dad came with patience? Lucky you! Joanie that little red car is your style!

  5. Oh I remember those days when cars didn’t have power steering! I’m so glad that’s over and done with. Joanie’s car is adorable!

  6. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Joanie what a great brudder Sammy is to teach you to drive….keep practicing by the time you are 16 you’ll be purrfect!
Heading over to the CC now
    Hugs madi your bfff

  7. Happy B-Day, Madi! Good question. It triggered a plethora of memories.

A dear family friend taught driver’s ed back when I turned sixteen. He had me drive backward all the way around a local high school looking over my shoulder. ~grin~ Then I failed my test the first time because the tester didn’t tell me when I was supposed to parallel park the vehicle. I idled there in limbo, the car in park, confused. She just sat there stone-faced for a minute and told me I failed. Weird bit@h. The next guy aced me.

My first car was a beast. I didn’t have fender benders, but my father had to put the seat on two wooden blocks so I could see out the windshield. Ha!

Thank you for the kind word on my story snippet. Be well, my dear.

    1. Sorry the mean lady didn’t pass you 🙁 Glad you had no fender benders.

  8. Happy Birthday to Sweet Madi!!! She is having a great day today for sure!!! We are out on the road too – we will be looking for you.

  9. Mom’s hoping that Mom Ellen got Madi’s cake from Mau. Lily hasn’t been to CC yet to check it out. She’s hoping Madi doesn’t mind if she teleports from the Bridge for the party. None of us are old enough to drive, except for Mau in the Cat Scouts’ Cardwood Derby. He can’t drive anywhere else, though. Thanks for hopping with us. 10. Joanie, your car looks like a lot of fun. Your mom’s story of learning to drive is a little similar to the lady’s. No power steering is no fun!

  11. Happy Birthday wishes to Madi! All this driving sounds very complicated to me. What us cats all need is chauffeurs and lots of home deliveries for the chauffeurs day off.

PS Joanie, thats great you got to have a go in your bro’s car, try to get a few more lessons in then apply for the exam. After that you could go for your pilots licence too!

I won’t mention anything about you driving.

Have a purrfect day. My best to your mom. ♥

  13. I don’t know how to drive. Sammy or Joanie, I wonder if one of you could teach me? Red, like your car, would be my choice for a zoom zoom, too. I think Gremmie needs a Gremlin car! Tee hee hee!

  14. I had a car without power steering, too. (It had initially, but stopped working.) It was very hard to drive!
    Happy birthday to Madi 🙂

  15. Now that looks the prefect car to learn to drive in!

  16. Our brothers are so good to teach us driving. You have a good one I see. I’ll never tell that you are underage. xxx

  17. Happy birthday to Madi! I really enjoyed reading about your driving lessons. Don’t worry, Joanie, we won’t tell anyone that you’re an underage driver. Besides, you’re probably a better driver than most who are of age. Purrs!

  18. I’ve never driven an actual car, myself. Can’t reach the pedals, you see. But Nissy taught me how to use the teleporation device! Well actually, we kinda taught each other. There are no pedals in the flyin’ fryin’ pan to reach. purrs

  19. You will not believe this, buy in 1976 our mom’s first car was a royal blue 1974 Gremlin! Wishing Laila’s long lost sister, Madi, a very Happy Birthday today!

  20. TBT here: My first own car was a 1966 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible. I loved it. I look at renovation sites considering buying a retored one. I never quite do, but I could easily, and might. But I also loved my 1970 Monte Carlo and could love that. So I’m not sure which to imagine… Heck, my 19 something Eagle Vision was great too.

  21. Joanie, since automakers are going to start creating self-driving cars, I’m thinking that kitties will have some too, soon enough!
