Happy President’s Day!

Hi everyone! Today we are joining Comedy Plus’ Awww….Mondays, McGuffy’s Reader’s Sparks and Curious as a Cathy’s Mewsic Moves Me blog hops. Being that it is a holiday in the USA , we are going to take a break from the reading hop today.

Joanie is taking a day off today. Mrs. Potato Head has offered to watch Gremmie for her while she naps.

She knows he will be safe. Mrs. Potato Head has eyes on the back of her head.

Our Spark today is a quote from Abraham Lincoln. “Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other thing.”

And this week’s theme is our choice for Curious as a Cathy’s Mewsic Moves Me so I am doing songs that annoy me. I know that seems like an odd choice in a post with Sparks, but it is just for fun.

Imagine Dragons- Thunder annoys me because a little voice keeps repeating thunder, thunder, thunder and it sounds like a little martian to me. Then it gets stuck in my head.

Adele’s Hello annoys me too. She has a beautiful voice, but the lyrics disturb me. Who in their right mind would like to get together with an ex to discuss what went wrong? Get out of the past and move on lady.

And lastly, Florida Georgia Line’s H.O.L.Y really irritates me because they sing “Holy, holy, holy” the same way it is sung before communion in church except they are worshiping a woman instead of God. Ok, that one wasn’t for fun, it is a pet peeve of mine.

  1. Joanie, we know you will be able to rest well, with Gremmie nicely supervised. Mom agrees with you about Holy – she had to listen to it pretty carefully before realizing it had nothing to do with God.

  2. Abraham Lincoln was a very wise man as these words are so true and important to remember. I really laughed at what you said about Adele’s song Hello, as my beloved can’t stand it either for similar reasons.
    Have a lovely week Ellen.

  3. Very nice of Mrs. Potato Head to watch after Gremmie. Bet they will have a good time together. Hope all of you have a great Monday.

  4. Isn’t it nice and comforting when you find a trustworthy babysitter, Joanie? Thank goodness for Mrs. Potato Head and those eyes in the back of her head. And what a wonderful Sparks you shared. It’s so true. Happy Monday!

  5. Good to know Joanie has a reliable sitter for Gremmie.
Those are good reasons for having those songs grate on your nerves 😉
    We like Lincoln’s quote too.

  6. It’s good that you can get some time off, Joanie. Everyone needs a rest now and then. I love “Thunder” and “Hello,” but “Holy” I could definitely live without! 🙂

  7. You crack me up. ~hugs~ I forgot about Sparks today! Oops. Well, I need to get busy writing and so will do that rather than spend so much time on a blog hop. Be well!

  8. It’s good to have a good sitter. You don’t want things to go wrong. Huge Awww.

    Love your Spark.

Have a fabulous day filled with smiles. ♥

  9. Would you believe our SPARK today was another of Lincoln’s sayings?! Great minds huh? Nice of Mrs. Potato Head to give Joanie a break by babysittng Gremmie – EVERYBODY needs a break once in a while!

    Hugs, Teddy

  10. Your Spark for today is a great one! We can have all the talent in the world, or very little talent, but what determines how successful we will be at anything is our desire and determination, that is what drives us to accomplish our goals. I’ve seen so many people overcome obstacles and challenges to do something they really want to do, when it would appear so unlikely they ever could. And what is that determination fueled by?… we have to start with believing in ourselves! 🙂

  11. Your Sparks quote is very thought-provoking. It is deeply personal. Lincoln was a good man.

I love that Joanie. I hope Gremmie is still technically a Mogwai; he looks like it. Surely, she knows to not feed him after midnight or get him wet…right? Mrs. Potato Head is kinda’ small. I hope she doesn’t get…mashed. Love you!

  12. HAPPY PRESIDENTS’ DAY, my pals! Here in Nova Scotia, today is Heritage Day. Each year it recognises someone/somethin’ different. This year we’re rememberin’ a lady who was a member of the Dutch resistance and the only Canadian woman to be imprisoned in a German prisoner of war camp in WWII. purrs

  13. What a nice guy Patatoe Head is to watch after Gremmie, Joanie and with such a smile 😀 Lincoln was a very wise man, so is this inspirational quote. We think the songs are annoying too, miss Ellen, and not only because of what they say…MOL 😀 Pawkisses for a wonderful day to all of you 🙂 <3

  14. Well Happy Happy President’s day to you too! Love your choices, but the last one I’ve never heard that one before. Thanks for the introduction! Very cool. Yes, Abraham Lincoln was a very intelligent man and had many great thoughts he put into words. It’s a shame he didn’t live to put them out there. Have a lovely mewsic day… Cathy being the coolest cat amongst all of us! 🙂

  15. Interesting comments on the music. I like Adele too but always thought that song Hello was just plain weird. LOL! It was nice to see President’s Day acknowledged too. I don’t work these days but I don;t think many celebrate the day but the fact that it is an extra day off. It was sure different when I was a kid. Anyway, long ago.
Thank you for sharing and enjoy a wonderful week. HUGS

  17. Ellen,

Nice quote by Abe Lincoln. That was a sparkletastic idea to use one of the birthday boys’ quotes on Presidents’ Day. Nicely done. I hadn’t read the lyrics to Florida Georgia Line’s song. This may be the first time for me hearing it now that I think about it. I like the mewsic arrangement but the lyrics not so much for the same reason as you. We are not put anything or anyone before God, not even our spouse. Thanks for joining us on the dance floor. I’m late to visit but I was sick al weekend and although I spent yesterday with DH I was still under the weather. I’m doing better this morning and am now playing catch up. Have a good week, my friend! 😉
