Dr. Seuss Day!

Hi everyone! Happy Dr. Seuss Day!

Brody wants to thank everyone for the Gotcha Day wishes. He is here to announce the winner of the Dr. Seuss giveaway.

Congratulations to A Wizard and Angel!

Today we are joining Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop. I am thankful that we got to see Grammie Wednesday and she will be back today too. I love her so very much!

And now for my poem for Sammy’s Poetry Day,  featuring the letter L.

Lips
Lips are to give a kiss
mine make me want to hiss.
Stupid rodent ulcer ,
I’m not even a mouser.
I wish it would go away
and not come back another day.

Yup, I have that rodent ulcer again. It is the same one which never healed all the way and when I got off the prednisone, it came right back. Now I have a liquid medicine called Atopica, it is for allergies. I need it daily for a month and then we will cut back. Mom was glad that I gained 6 ounces because she thought I was too thin before. The worst part of going to the vet was that Millie had to go for a thyroid checkup and he doesn’t travel well. He always poops- it was not a fun ride, good thing it wasn’t too cold because Mom had to open a window.

Mom is joining Wandering Through the Shelves Thursday Movie Picks. This week is “On the Run”. Here are her choices:

  1. The Fugitive ( 1993)- I think this is Harrison Ford’s best film, he plays a Dr. accused of murdering his wife. He goes on the run to find the one-armed man who did it.
  2. Splash ( 1984)- Tom Hanks falls in love with a mermaid ( Daryl Hannah) and they are on the run because scientists want to capture her to study her.
  3. Double Jeopardy ( 1999)- One of my favorite movies, Ashley Judd’s husband fakes his murder and she goes to jail for it. Once released, she is determined to find her son and prove her innocence.

And last, but not least are the fill-ins, Mom came up with the first 2 and Annie of McGuffy’s Reader came up with the second 2. Please pray for their sweet Maggie as she is going to be having exploratory surgery soon.

Fill-ins:
1. My favorite herb or spice is __________________.
2. An herb/spice I dislike is ________________.
3.Lately, I have been working on                               .

4.This Winter was                                    .

  1. You all are impressive. Your bloggy covered everything important for this week. We forgot about the important stuff and went with “fluff” stuff. Always love reading your bloggy. Wish I had a Grammie like you have!

  2. Phoebe we hope the new medicine works…..mousie ulcers must not be fun AT ALL. We think you look adorable in your hat AND we will be putting Teddy’s hat on him today and sharing that photo tomorrow! Thanks for the fill-ins too…..Mom, Ted and I will work on them today. You did a GREAT JOB on your “K” poem but today was “L” !! (or maybe I’m wrong?!?!?!)

    Love, Angel Sam

    1. Thank you, I hope it works too. We look forward to seeing Teddy in his hat. It is an L poem, “Lips” 🙂 XO and love to you and Teddy and your Mom too.

  3. I’m sorry you had to go to the vets. Especially with poor stressed out Millie! I hope your lips will feel better soon!!
Happy Dr Seuss Day to all of you and especially to my sweet Penny.

    1. Thank you. 🙂 We hope your Mom had a good birthday! Penny sends kisses to you Toby. XO

  4. We still have and very much enjoy all the goodies we won in your Dr. Seuss giveaway last year! Your poem is wonderful, but we sure are sorry that your ulcer is back, Phoebe. We’ll keep purring and praying for it to go away for good! And we love the movies that you picked. The Fugitive and Double Jeopardy are two of my favorite thrillers. We just watched Double Jeopardy again not long ago, and so now I think we’ll have us a movie night with The Fugitive. Now, we’ll go work on these fun fill-ins! Purrs, and Happy Dr. Seuss Day!

    1. Thank you, we are glad you still enjoy your Dr. Seuss stuff. 🙂 We want to see these 2 movies now too, we own Double Jeopardy.

  5. Congratulations to a Wizard and Angel! So sorry the ulcer is back, hopefully the new medicine will do the job and get it healed. Oh, I knew my answer to 4 on the Fill-ins the second I saw it!

  6. Ellen, I hope Brody gets well soon. I snagged this week’s fill-ins and have them set to go at midnight. My TMP will post at noon today but I also picked “The Fugitive”. That’s one of our all-time favorites. I totally forgot about “Double Jeopardy”. That’s the best Ashley Judd film! She’s really a good actress but I have trouble warming up to her. She has a bit of a cold personality that comes through in every character she plays, which makes me wonder if that’s the way she is in real life, you know? Oh well…have a good day! 😉

    1. I read Ashley Judd’s memoir and she is a very caring person, but has a lot of trouble with her Mom and sister ( the singers). She also suffers from depression. She has done a lot of work in other countries to stop human trafficking.

  7. Double Jeopardy is a great movie–Ashley Judd is an amazing actress! And love the Dr. Seuss hat you made

  8. Ooh, poor Phoebe! You’ll be kissably sweet soon, baby! Millie, you show that vet just exactly how you feel…hehehehe. Congrats to the winners, and I have to admit that I’ll re-watch “The Fugitive” anytime it’s on! I also do the same for “The Hunt For Red October”, for some reason. I have also discovered that I’m madly in love with Tom Hanks, so I’ll watch anything he’s in, except war movies. Waiting to see “Sully” now. Ashley Judd is great!

    1. I am waiting to see Sully too, but the library has a long list. Phoebe thanks you. I haven’t seen Hunt for Red October in years and now I want to see it. Ashley Judd is good, but she has not been in anything lately.

  12. I get those ulcer things too. The mom talked to the vet about starting me on Atopica, but we decided not to. The dermatologist told me I could take an antihistimine if my allergies get real bad. ~Ernie

    Oh yeah…Happy Dr. Seuss Day!

    1. I hope your allergies don’t get very bad Ernie. Happy Dr. Seuss Day!

  13. We are keeping our paws crossed that this new medication works, Phoebe. Oh, and do you know what? Our mom cannot STAND cilantro–she says it tastes like flea collars! How she might know that, we have no idea.

    1. Thank you. My Mom doesn’t like cilantro either, but I don’t think she ever tasted a flea collar -MOL! 🙂

  14. I enjoyed the movies you mentioned. Mom saw Harrison Ford in a movie and he was great. She doesn’t remember the name but his wife was killed in a plane crash as she was leaving him for another man. Harrison and the guy’s wife meet….really different…you’d like it Ellen.

    Thanks for the fill ins.

    Shoko

  15. Splash is a nice sort of out of left field choice that I never would have thought of but it does fit well. The Fugitive is a fun ride with Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones sparking well off of each other plus it has some great set pieces. Geez I haven’t thought of Double Jeopardy for years but I did like it when I saw it in the theatre. I should revisit it to see if it holds up.

I went with three favorites of mine that have a more serious bent and included a more comic take on the theme as an extra.

The Clouded Yellow (1950)-Fired and seeking tranquility after a case goes wrong British Secret Service agent David Somers (Trevor Howard) retreats to the Fenton country estate and a quiet job cataloging butterflies. Upon his arrival he meets and becomes enamored with the Fenton’s niece, the fragile Sophie (Jean Simmons). His peace is short-lived though when Sophie is framed for the murder of menacing handyman Hick. Escaping to London he uses his skills and a network of old friends to evade capture as both the police and the real murderer chase them across Britain as they attempt to flee to safety. Tidy thriller that benefits from location filming throughout England and a superior cast.

Dust Be My Destiny (1939)-Down on his luck but honest Joe Bell (John Garfield) gets into a fight with a crook and is sentenced to a work farm for 90 days. There he falls for Mabel Alden (Priscilla Lane), much to the displeasure of her stepfather Charles Garreth (Stanley Ridges) the farm’s foreman. Goaded into a fight Joe knocks Garreth out and the panicked pair flee. To avoid suspicion and hard up for cash the couple endure an audience wedding then learn Garreth has died and Joe is wanted for his murder. Moving from town to town to elude capture they try to build a new life when Joe get a job as a photographer on a newspaper after capturing pictures of fleeing bank robbers but destiny is still on their trail. Solid Warner Bros. social issue drama with two excellent lead performances.

You Only Live Once (1937)-Ex-con Eddie Taylor (Henry Fonda), recently released due to the influence of his fiancée Joan (Sylvia Sidney) the public defender’s secretary, attempts to stay to the straight and narrow after they marry. Things go wrong however when he’s accused and convicted for a bank robbery he didn’t commit in which six people were killed. Sentenced to fry in the electric chair he escapes on the eve of execution with the aid of a smuggled gun, accidentally killing the prison chaplain while fleeing. Taking Joan with him they go on the lam but only tragedy lays ahead. Bleak Fritz Lang directed film, an amalgam of the Bonnie & Clyde legend and Lang’s reaction to his first wife’s embrace of Nazism, is considered the precursor to film noir.

Lighthearted Extra-Midnight Run (1988)-Fun adventure comedy/buddy film of bounty hunter Robert DeNiro taking fugitive mob accountant Charles Grodin cross country to collect his reward and dogged every step of the way by the FBI, Mafia and other bounty hunters all of whom want Grodin for reasons of their own. DeNiro & Grodin have a spiky exasperated chemistry with each other that adds greatly to the comedy of the situation.

    1. I have never heard of any of these. The Clouded Yellow sounds really good, I am going to see if Netflix has it. The rest sound good too.

  16. Sending healing purrz, Phoebe. Happy Dr. Seuss Day.
    1. My favorite herb or spice is catnip.

    1. Phoebe thanks you. And I thank you for your great answers. You do wonderful posts, it is difficult to get comments- I bet you have lots of page views though. XO

  17. Love your pick of Splash because it really fits the bill. I need to rewatch that one. The Fugitive is popular for good reason. I love Double Jeopardy and you picked a great one. When she escaped by ramming the car off the boat, it made my heart skip a beat. Love your choices

    1. It seems like almost everyone had The Fugitive. Glad you liked my picks.

  18. Oh and I love your Dr. Seuss hat cat and I hope your pussy cat will feel better. I love garlic but I’m not one for mint in food..I just like it in gum or a fresh breath mint. The weather has been meh….

  19. I’m sorry to hear that, I hope you’ll get better soon.

I haven’t seen any of your picks, but they seem interesting.

    1. WOW! I knew we hadn’t seen any comments in a while, but it was longer than we thought. Rodent ulcers are yucky and the medicine makes Phoebe lose her appetite so I haven’t been giving it often.
