D is for Decluttering

Hi everyone. We are joining Comedy Plus’ Awww Mondays and The A-Z Blogging Challenge.  The letter D is featured today. Decluttering makes me happy, I actually find it a great stress reliever. I like to walk around the house and find things to toss or give away.  Now, if I could get the hubby on board with it, I would be even happier. If you are interested in decluttering, here are some of the books I found most helpful. So helpful that they are part of my collection and have not been given away. I like to look at them to get me motivated.

The best one is Gail Blanke’s Throw Out Fifty Things.  She encourages readers to make a list as you declutter and try to get to 50 things.  You count by category, so all books you get rid of only counts as one. It is not just things she wants to rid you of, but also bad thoughts and anything holding you back.

The blog, Happy Organized Life has a declutterathon challenge and a free printable to go with it if you sign up for their emails. Click here.

  1. Oh, Joanie!! You have a sweet family for sure! Love your hat!

Petcretary would love to have Hubby on board with de-cluttering as well! He’s worse than she is when it comes to not throwing things away. Perish the thought of having to move…though that is often a great way to de-clutter to start fresh in a new spot!

    1. I think that is why we are so cluttered because we have never moved and he was here 12 years prior to me. XO

  2. I like to keep decluttered, but hubby is a nightmare! At least I have managed to get him to keep a lot of his junk in the garage now. It is junk too, of the may come in handy someday type.

  3. Joanie, you’re the best little mommy! XXOO I brought my Donkey in to enjoy Easter bed time with me. I didn’t want him to be cold.

  4. I am always in decluttering mode. I was determined to never find our house full of so much stuff as we had when we moved from DC back to Missouri. And I did a big declutter when we moved from Missouri to Florida in 2018. I am a minimalist and it makes me feel content. Joanie’s little family makes me so happy this morning!

    1. I keep trying to be a minimalist, but that will never happen, less is better though. Glad Joanie made you happy. XO

  5. I try to declutter once a year. I figure if I have not used/worn/needed an item in a year. I probably won’t use/wear/need it

  6. I am good about declutteirng but hubby leans toward being a hoarder. With that said, he at least keeps is organized – well, I keep it organized is the real truth.🙄

  7. We’ve done this de-cluttering and it’s most wonderful. It’s amazing the stuff we keep that we don’t use anymore. It made so much difference in the look of our home. Wonderful.

Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week, Ellen. Scritches to all the kitties. ♥

  8. We love Joanie in her pretty Easter bonnett with her happy family with their Easter baskets.
Boy would that make a cute puzzle.

  9. Is it wrong that the thought of decluttering makes me feel a bit ill? We’re the opposite to the two of you, as my beloved would happily declutter and I would happily have more around me – I blame my grandmother as she used to hoard all sorts of things.
    Have a great day.

  10. Joanie you an yore furamillee are so cute!

    1. Joanie thanks you. That is great that your mum is so good at decluttering. XO

  11. Mom says decluttering is very important to her, but sometimes it seems to be endless:)

    Happy Monday.

  12. What a cute Easter hat! Our mom started decluttering over the pandemic and got rid of SO much stuff! Geez! And would you believe she’s still finding stuff to get rid of? Does it ever end?

  13. De-Cluttering is something I have to be vigilant about. Things seem to creep in and the paperwork for dealing with insurance, banks, government….is never ending and they all want the piece I have put away! Hubby was a hoarder and my son and I took many many loads to the dump, recycle and thrift store.
Joanie in her hat and her family is adorable! She is such a sweetie! Thanks for visiting and we hope you have a marvellously happy day!

    1. Yes, clutter does sneak in. My hubby is a bit of a hoarder too. Joanie thanks you. XO

  14. Our mom still has to get on with doing the garage. She had just started when covid hit and no one was taking donations. We think the typical donation places started again (with precautions), so we have no idea what her excuse is now.

Anyway, Marie Kondo is on her bad list after having gotten a little too carried away a few years ago. She enjoyed The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning, though. She said it was sweet, if you haven’t read it yet.

    1. It has been tough with places not taking donations due to COVID. I have read that, it was good.

  15. My human is not much on decluttering, although sometimes she will do what she calls “get rid of junk.” The last time she did that on a big scale was after her ex moved out. He left a lot of stuff he no longer wanted, and that, with stuff of her own she got rid of, wound up filling a whole junk truck!

  16. I love a decluttered home. I do Ali Edward’s One Little Word project every year where you pick a word to focus on for the year and each month we have prompts related to our word. This month’s prompt is to let go of things holding us back so your declutter post is perfect timing .Weekends In Maine

  17. Deckluttering is something I could do better with but I am so much better than years ago. That is a great idea to throw out 50 things. I have been planning to fill our trash can every week to the top. I better get on it but books, they stay! Well maybe not all of them but no cat books go! MOL

  18. Ellen,

I like decluttering, too. I need to do lots more this.

If you haven’t already, I invite you to check out my Looney Tunes A-Z Daffy Duck Art Sketch. Join the fun at your leisure. Happy A2Zing, my friend!

  19. My version of decluttering is to shove things into a closed area where I can’t see them. LOL
But seriously, I have never liked clutter but as I get older I seem to be worse about it. I’m trying to do better though, because I really don’t like clutter!

  20. LadyMew iss an xpert at dee-clutterin Miss Ellen. Shee doess not like clutter so it iss easy fore her to keep minny-mal itemss.Shee can keep a few too many bookss butt shee has a book case fore them all.
