Hi everyone! We are joining Comedy Plus’ Awww….Mondays .
Dusty is posing with two good books I just finished reading.
In Connecting Dots: A Blind Life by Joshua A. Miele , the author tells of being burned with acid by a crazy neighbor when he was four years old which led to many burns and blindness. Despite that, he has lived a meaningful life and even won a MacArthur Genius award.
And The Well -Lived Life : A 102-Year-Old Doctor’s Six Secrets to Health and Happiness at Every Age by Gladys McGarey was excellent. The book was published in 2023, and she passed away soon after, but clearly her tips must be good if she managed to live that long. They were mainly about a positive attitude and connecting with others. Simple, but wise advice. She is considered the mother of holistic medicine.
Today is Memorial Day in the United States. I am thankful to all who gave their lives to keep us safe.
Around here, it is also a day to remember all who have passed. In my family, we put flowers at the graves of my maternal grandparents, my great-aunt, my dad, my hubby’s dad and Jerry (my mom’s significant other who passed in 2018). I am curious, does anyone else do that?
Rosie will be here tomorrow with all the latest.
A very cute picture of Dusty! My mother and I did always visit the grave of my grandfather on Memorial Day. He had passed when young, but from natural causes. An important but sad holiday. XO
Thank you. Sorry you didn’t get to meet your grandfather. XO
Both books sound really inspiring. Happy Memorial Day!
They are. 🙂
Those sound like good books. Happy Memorial Day.
They are. Thank you. XO
Happy Memorial Day Ellen. Hope you have a wonderful day with Dusty and all the other sweet kitties and your husband.
Thank you. I did and I hope you had a nice day too. XO
That is a cute picture of Dusty, and the books sound interesting. Have a nice Memorial Day, and I look forward to Rosie’s gossip.
Thank you. xO
I would like to put flowers on the graves of my people who served but they are all in Virginia…except my Dad who is over a thousand miles away as well. But I love them, and I love Memorial Day and all it stands for.
xx
I am sure they are in your thoughts. XO
Both books sound good. Nobody is buried here in Florida…they are all in New Jersey.
They are. Sorry they are so far away. XO
We remember and honor.
Yes, we do.
Dusty is a cutie pie.
You read some really great books.
You’re not the only one that does that. Good for you for remembering your family that’s in heaven.

Cute photo of Dusty. The books sound good. That is a nice tradition.
Thank you. XO
What a precious photo and interesting reads, my dear. Those inspiring stories could not be more different yet more similar in spirit. Humans can be amazing. 🙂 Planting flowers on familial graves was a huge ritual during my childhood and beyond. Now, a few beloved friends and family members continue but I lost the will to travel hours on ever more crowded Ohio freeways. Hugs, my dear.
Thank you. I am lucky that I still live in the same town I grew up in and all my dead relatives are here. XO
Such an adorable pic of Dusty. We’re with you on honoring those who gave the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom. Happy Memorial Day.
Thank you. Yes, we are too. XO
It’s nice to have books that are Dusty approved!
Thank you. 🙂
Dusty ~ you are so handsome and precious ~ hugs ~ Great books you read too ~ ^_^
Wishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,
A ShutterBug Explores, clm
aka (A Creative Harbor)
Thank you. XO
Dusty poses so beautifully.
Those books both sound amazing, I’m especially interested in the one by the doctor.
Decoration Day was originally to honor Union soldiers killed in the Civil War, but most people also decorated all the graves of family members, even if they hadn’t lost anyone in the war. It’s a day for remembrance, and everyone you miss counts.
Thank you. It is a good book. I had not heard of Decoration Day. XO
Chaplin: “Dusty looks like she is telling everyone all about those books. They must have been good ones!”
Charlee: “We like your Memorial Day tradition. We are 3,000 miles away from most of the graves in Mama and Dada’s family, but I don’t know what we would be doing if we lived closer …”
It does look like she is talking. 🙂
Sorry not commenting for a few days in the midst of famiy reunion but pics will come, the story of herding lizards, and how nice it was to be together, Mama will comment soon and I’ll be sure to remind her, haha.
No worries. Have a great time and be sure to tell us all about it. XO
I believe having a positive attitude might be the secret to a long life. That’s sad the author died shortly after her book published but 102 is awesome!
I agree. XO
