It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading?

We are joining McGuffy’s Reader’s Sparks (even though she is on hiatus), Comedy Plus’ Awww….Mondays and Book Date’s It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading? I am skipping the Mewsic hop again this week. My post gets too long when I do the reading and mewsic hops together. Next week, I will do the Mewsic one.

I just finished Trooper: The Bobcat Who Came in from the Wild by Forrest Bryant Johnson. In 1987, the author found a baby bobcat trapped in a cactus plant. He rescued him and kept him for many years, until Trooper died of old age. I found this book fascinating, I enjoyed reading of the special bond these two shared. Trooper is such a sweet cat that he even befriends a stray cat and brings him home to share dinner. He ends up joining the family too and spends all his time with Trooper.

Trooper lived in Nevada where people can own bobcats, well, back then they could, the laws could be different now. They had a large kitty door put in so he was able to come and go as he pleased. I think you will all love this book as much as I did.

Our spark today is from Trouble, take time to stop and smell the flowers, just don’t eat them because they could be poisonous.

    1. I keep all our plants in the dining room where no kitties are allowed. I put this flower there right after the photo 🙂

  1. That sounds like a cool book! A few decades ago, my human’s brother found a half-drowned baby bobcat while out on a nature walk and brought him home! He was the cutest, sweetest thing, with the sharpest claws ever. My human’s parents kept him for the weekend, and then brought him to a wildlife rescue, where he lived for a while. He was way, way too human friendly to ever go back in the wild, so he wound up going to a zoo with a girl bobcat.

  2. Thanks for the very smart “Spark” this week Trouble! That book your Mom read sounds interesting with the rescued bobcat who was able to live in the house. Mom always likes reading about animals who find homes especially unusual ones! Happy Monday to everyone…….

    Love, Teddy

  3. Sounds like a great read! I’m reminded of a book loved from my childhood, “Frosty, a Raccoon to Remember” by Harriett Weaver is still on my bookshelves. I highly recommend it. ~hugs~ Good tip about not eating flowers!

  4. This sounds like a fantastic read! I have always been so intrigued by bobcats. Then again, all cats intrigue me. Trouble, your Spark is such purrfect advice! Happy Monday!

  6. What a fun life that must have been, sharing it with a very large cat! It probably also presented some unique difficulties.

Smart idea to smell the flowers without tasting. The few edible flowers i’ve eaten didn’t taste that fabulous anyway.

  7. That sounds like a great book to add to Mom’s collection. Thanks for the review! Our Mom just finished an old book from James Michener, Return to Paradise, and is going onto Anthony Bourdain’s Nasty Bits which she’s had for a while but kept forgetting to read it.

  8. We like to nibble on Mom’s flowers too, or even better just pull them out of the pot:) But she is always careful to plant only things that will not harm us.

  11. Good morning, we had to remove some flowers since they were poisonous to pets ans we found ut in a crazy way. Anyway we always have dogs come to viisit and our cats are indoors so just careful with all of them. Love Sparks today. ENjoy your week and thank you for the cute photo share too. HUGS

  12. Smiled at don’t eat the flowers. I have a cat visitor from next door who regards my garden as her playground and she often chews on some grasses!

  14. Trouble, you are quite right! And that book sounds interesting. A very long time ago, mom worked at a vet, and one day had to bathe a bobcat. He was sedated, and desperately needed a bath. His story was not a happy one, but mom has quite a unique one. Not many people can say they’ve had that experience. She always wondered what she would have done had this wild animal woken up during his bath…. especially when she found out the vet had left for lunch during this.

  15. Mee-you Trouble what grate advice!!!

  16. Ellen,

Good advice by Trouble. Of course, you won’t catch me eating flowers. I can’t say that about everyone I know, though. I got a chuckle out of my BIL. One weekend many, many years ago, while visiting my late in-laws, BIL#1 came in the house eating a rose. I kid you not. When I asked what he was eating he told me and he said they were supposed to be good for you for some reason which now escapes my mind but I couldn’t help but laugh. Speaking of eating flowers, I remember my Girl Scout leader making Violet Jelly. It smelled really purrrty and I’m thinking I liked it. 🙂

  17. That’s a book I’ll ask Mom to read to me. I know Mom and I would luv to have a bobcat come live with us. We haven’t seen one in purr-son, but Mom got to pet a Mountain Lion cub once. Mom says it was being “rehabilitated” so it could be released in the wild. Winks.

  18. Thank you for sharing all the nice and interesting comments about my book, Trooper the Bobcat. I really enjoyed reading your page. My web has some photos of Trooper and friends and I hope to post more soon. forrestbryantjohnson.com
