Very Thankful Thursday

Hi everyone! We are joining Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop.

Penny and I are thankful for all the purrs and prayers and tail wags.  Words can’t express how happy I am to still have my Penny. My husband is thankful too as she is more his cat, they bonded from the start.

We were scared to bring Penny to her appointment yesterday thinking we might have to let her go. Her infection definitely improved, but she was very lethargic and not eating. I wondered if it was dehydration because she has had some loose stools (sorry if that is TMI). She was on 2 antibiotics and a probiotic, but the probiotic wasn’t enough apparently. After the fluids she perked up and was hungry again by the time we got home.

Then Tuesday night I started her on a new antibiotic for her tummy (the vet discontinued one of the other ones) and by morning she was weak again and not hungry. So once again we thought we might have to give up, but after reading up on the new antibiotic, it causes loss of appetite and lethargy. I have Miritaz ear gel on hand so I gave her that which has helped her appetite. I just took this photo of her, she has some Squeezie on her nose. 🙂  If she continues to heal, the vet will give us more antibiotics and she won’t have to keep being seen weekly. This roller coaster has been emotionally exhausting, but worth it for every extra moment we get with our sweet girl.

I skipped the poem yet again. My mind has been preoccupied with Penny to think of anything else.

Here are the Friendly Fill-Ins for tomorrow. I came up with the first two and my wonderful co-host, Lorianne of Four-Legged Furballs came up with second two.

1. I know I am having a good day when ___________________.
2. I _________________when I am ______________________.
3. _________ makes me feel helpless.
4. I have a lot of confidence in my ability to _________.

  1. Things sound very hopeful for Penny, Ellen. We’re so glad she’s still eating and we’ll keep up purrs for her, for sure! XO

  2. It’s so hard when our cat children are going through a hard time – ANY hard time – but health related is always scary. It really sounds like Penny WANTS to feel better and WANTS to be a member of your household forever. Hopefully the right combination of meds for her will allow her to be here for a long time. We pray for her – it’s discouraging for you I’m sure but between your dedication to her health and her determination to stay – hopefully she’ll be with you for a long while to come.

    Hugs, Pam

  3. Penny is such a sweet girl to go through all this and not give you a very difficult time. We Kitty moms and Dad’s do everything you can and you certainly have. I continue to pray for her.

  4. This is great news, and I hope Penny continues to improve. It’s hard when our catkids don’t feel well.

  5. The end days are always hard. Is now the time or can we eek more time? Is she feeling ok? All these are on your mind. I’m glad that you are managing her and wish her a lot of good times left.

  6. I know how you feel. I am sure most of us here do. Our cat children are, as Pam put it in her comment, of highest importance. They live within our herts as well as with us visibly. It is so so hard to help them and keep them feeling good sometimes. Very hard on our hearts.

  7. We’re glad Penny’s infection is improving but that’s one of the bad things about antibiotics…they can make cats feel like that. We hope you can get her through this. Is she on any anti nausea medication? Have you tried syringe feeding her when she won’t eat? Hopefully, the mirataz and other things will help. Continued purrs for her.

  8. Hooray for some good news and we hope sweetest Penny continues on the mend, that would make us all very happy too! Thanks for joining Angel Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!

  9. This is such good news… praying for continued improvement. Penny is not ready to stop fighting this infection. Fingers crossed! Hugs to you and your Husband for helping her. She is loved.

  10. Wilson and I are continuing to send healing energy for you and Penny.

  11. Charlee: “We are a little bit late so we saw the post after this one and we are very sorry to hear that Penny’s bounce didn’t last.”
Chaplin: “We kept up all the purrs we could—”
Java Bean: “Sí, and the tail wags!”
Chaplin: “—but sadly we know from experience sometimes a turnaround just doesn’t stick. You always did what was right for sweet Penny and that’s the most important thing.”
