Hi everyone! Before I get started, I want to have a moment of silence for our friend Esme, who left for The Rainbow Bridge last week. Please visit her family if you haven’t already. Click here..

I am joining Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop. I am thankful to feel better this week and I am thankful for all your purrs and prayers.

I haven’t seen Grammie since last Wednesday. I hope she comes to see me soon, I love her so very much.

How cute do I look in my harness? Here I am looking for a four leaf clover.

Joanie wants us to call her Dr. Joanie because she took her own stitches out. Her recheck was good though and she is all healed.

Here is my poem for Sammy’s Poetry Day. I used all 4 of the K word prompts this week.

My purrince is really my king
this is not just some fling
Our love is true
without him I ‘d be blue
The only boy with a key to my heart
it was true love right from the start
He makes my heart kindle
may our fire never dwindle

 

Mom wants to join Wandering Through The Shelves Thursday Movie Picks Blog Hop this week because the theme is the stage.

Here’s my list- all musicals, I can’t sing, but I love musicals.

1. Grease (1978)- I had such a crush on John Travolta ( yes, someone before Nic Cage) when I was a kid, my parents took me to see this. Every time I hear a song from it, I want to burst into song ( but I only do when alone, I don’t want to hurt anyone’s eardrums 🙂 ).

2. Annie ( 1982)- There have been other versions since, but I think this is the best.

3.Jersey Boys (2014)- The story of Frankie Vali and The Four Seasons.

And here are the Friendly Fill-Ins for tomorrow. I came up with the first two and Annie of McGuffy’s Reader came up with the second two.

    1. Thank you. This is a new thing. My folks thought it would cheer me up to go outside and it did-except now I meow a lot to go out.

    Joanie, taking out your own stitches is not usually a good idea, but i can’t really fuss, i’ve done it, too, to save myself a trip back to the doctor!

    I used to watch Grease all the time when I was a kid. I used to know all of the songs’ lyrics by heart.

  22. Do you like The Music Man? It’s one of my favorite musicals. I also like the music from Godspell, though the movie is a bit 70s for me. LOL

    1. I never saw The music Man or Godspell. I will have to see if I can get them through the library.

  26. I ‘ll agree on the Grease pick but not so sure about the others. As a kid, my best friend and I were obsessed with Oliver! although neither of us could sing. Glad for the healing and yes, tots adorbs in the harness. We are hoping daddy brings over a harness next week so we can enjoy the weather before it gets too cold.

  37. Interesting way to go with the theme-all stage adaptations. I love Grease even if every single cast member is too old for their role, none more than Stockard Channing who is the scene stealer nonetheless. Also a great supporting cast of old pros including Eve Arden and Joan Blondell.

    The other two I’m less fond of, Jersey Boys is loaded with great music but is curiously flat and I’ve never been that big a fan of Annie in any incarnation and I hate the song Tomorrow!

    I went the more traditional route and went with three with backstage settings. All older but I love all three.

    The Velvet Touch (1948)-Stage star Valerie Stanton (Rosalind Russell) attempts to break ties with her longtime producer and paramour Gordon Dunning (Leon Ames) after the closing of her latest play so she can move on with her life and career but during an argument in his office she accidently kills him. Unobserved she leaves and as suspicion falls on Gordon’s former flame Marian Webster (Claire Trevor) the film looks back at how matters came to such a pass. Meanwhile jocular policeman and theatre buff Captain Danbury (Sydney Greenstreet) investigates. Nice stage atmosphere and excellent performances add much to this undeservedly obscure, efficiently made little drama with a twist of noir thrown in that has a great ending.

    A Double Life (1947)-You’ve heard people jokingly tell others when they are getting carried away with something to “not get lost in the part!” but that’s just what happens in this noirish drama that won Ronald Colman a Best Actor Oscar. Anthony John (Colman) is a famed stage star greatly respected for his Shakespearian interpretations. The problem is that he lives the roles both onstage and off, when playing comedy he is the best guy in the world but when the material is dark so are his moods which among other things has led to the end of his marriage to his frequent costar Brita (Signe Hasso). Now he’s undertaken Othello and as he immerses himself deeply into the role his sanity begins to slip putting all around him including Brita and his mistress Pat (a young, whippet thin Shelley Winters) at risk.

    42nd Street (1933) – Aspiring hoofer Peggy Sawyer (Ruby Keeler) is a greenhorn new to the Broadway stage where through a friendship with two other chorines, the brassy Lorraine (Una Merkel) and the loose “Anytime Annie” (Ginger Rogers) she gets a spot in the chorus of a new show “Pretty Lady”. Through huge contretemps the star of the show has to bow out and Peggy is plucked from the line and told by the producer Julian Marsh (Warner Baxter) “You’re going out there a nobody…but you’ve got to come back a STAR!” And she does with the help of mind bogglingly elaborate dance numbers staged by Busby Berkeley. Incredibly influential musical invented just about every cliché in the book.

  38. I am so sorry to hear about Esme.

    I picked up my cats today from the vet’s where they were boarding all week while I was out of town. The person who was supposed to stay with them so they could be at home while I was gone cancelled at the last minute, and with my elder cat on so many meds, I decided it was better they stay at the hospital. My youngest cat hasn’t left me alone all day since I picked her up. She wants to be petted and held. I missed her (and my elder cat) too. 🙁

    I love musicals and so was glad to see Grease on your list. And the version of Annie you mention is my favorite too. I broke out in song at work last week, in fact, singing an Annie song. You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile. I’m not sure if that’s the title, but that’s one of the lines at least. (For the record, I am not a good singer, but I love to sing).
