Thankful Thursday

Hi everyone. We are joining Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop.

I am thankful for mushrooms. My hubby found all these on Wednesday in our woods. The big one is a chicken of the woods and it honestly tastes like chicken. He cooked some of these other ones, but not the purple, he just got those to show me the color- they are slimy as you can see in the photo, but I love the color.

And I am thankful that I earned a badge and bragging rights for being one of the first commenters on Teddy’s Teaser Tuesday.

I am happy to share the title with my friend, Ingrid ( Benji and Dalton’s mom).

We are also joining Angel Sammy’s Poetry Day.  And here is the photo prompt provided:

After months of dating, she finally invited me to her house.
She said, “have a seat on the couch while I change my blouse.”
I was hoping she didn’t have a vicious dog,
I was not expecting a very friendly hog.
Here are the Friendly Fill-Ins for tomorrow. I came up with the first two and my wonderful co-host, Lorianne of Four-Legged Furballs came up with second two.

  1. Wow, fantastic bunch of mushrooms! And congrats on being a firstie in the Teaser! That is funny poetry too, for a funny picture! XO

  2. Dearest Ellen,
That Chicken of the woods is a huge one and no doubt will provide a delicious meal.
You are brave for preparing them—we never trusted all the ‘look–alikes’ out there and in general bought fresh Shiitake or Button mushrooms.
No idea in what region you reside, but maybe in the northern part… In Oregon my late Pieter had a writer friend and one of his students who wrote about wild mushrooms.

    1. The chicken of the woods was good. I don’t think there is a look alike for that one. I am in Massachusetts. XO

  3. That is a big mushroom. I’ve never heard of chicken of the woods. Fun poem. Congratulations on your badge!

  4. GREAT poem…love the funghi collection but hope HOPE your wonderful hubby is a mycologist……how lovely to live near a woods.

  5. We had Chicken of the Woods here in our backwoods, too, last year, but have not seen any this year. One of them was over a foot in diameter!

Congrats on being a fellow ‘firstie’ with me. Apparently we shoved poor MIss Janet out of the way…MOL!

I love your poem, it made me giggle!! It’s quite original!!

    1. They do get big. It is best to pick them young before the bugs get to them. Congrats to you too. Thank you. 🙂 XO

  6. Congratulations on your badge for being a Speedy One at Teaser Tuesday!
Hahahaha… your poem is fun from your perspective! Hadn’t thought about the peep being a date!
I haven’t seen a purple mushroom. We had quite an assortment of mushrooms on The Tiny Ten. Morels were a treasure to find because they fry up wonderfully delicious! We only trusted ourselves with morels… we were sure of them.

    1. Thank you. 🙂 We had morels right outside our door one time, in 2020. It was the highlight of that year. XO

  7. Cute poem, and congrats on being a “firstie” in the teaser. Cool-looking fungi and I never heard of Chicken of the Woods. Learn something new every day.

    1. Thank you. 🙂 Yes, we have several books and I joined a group on FB that I can check with. XO

  8. WOW those mushrooms are sooooooo interesting! Your poem is absolute perfection – I had a feeling people would have a blast using that inspirational photo for a wacky poem……every one I’ve ready today has been PERFECT!

    Love, Pam

  9. Lulu: “Those are some interesting-looking mushrooms! I would love to try rolling around on the slimy purple ones.”
Java Bean: “Ayyy, look, Charlee, Chaplin ― it’s a Tuxedo Cat Pig!”
Charlee: “There’s no such thing as a tuxedo cat pi—”
    Java Bean: “Oink oink!”

  10. Loved the poem! The picture we should do for next week is gorgeous. Mom says she isn’t a mushroom fan. I think it depends on where you were brought up as a kid…what was available.

  11. Fun poem and congrats on your award and more congrats to hubby for finding the mushrooms ~

  12. Mushrooms are interesting specimens to look at but that does it for me. I never cared for the taste but what I learned as a young adult I have a mild allergy to them, as does DH. Which makes sense because we’re both very allergic to mold. For us, we’re not missing on anything. I do like photographing interesting fungus in the wild, though. 🙂

I borrowed your fill-ins. Thanks for sharing!

  13. Congratulations on being a firstie!

I’m glad your husband knows which mushrooms are safe, i wouldn’t (and i really don’t like mushrooms anyway).

    Your poem is very clever.

    1. Thank you. 🙂 I bought him a book titled, How to Forage Mushrooms without Dying. 🙂 XO

  14. WOW! That Chicken Mushroom is impurressive, Ellen, and it tastes like chicken too? Amazing! Yes, the purple colour is beautiful, do you dry and safe it? The big brownies look like bread. The poem is great, what a wonderful date😻Double Pawkisses for a Happy Day to all of you🐾😽💞

    1. Yes, it really does taste like chicken. We tossed the purple because it was slimy and not edible. XO

  15. Nice collection of mushrooms. Mom said she never knew a mushroom could taste like chicken. We smiled at your poem.

    Woos – Misty and Timber

    1. It is. Yes, I am lucky. I have always liked mushrooms. I prefer grocery store ones, but the chicken of the woods one is really tasty. XO
