Thankful Thursday

Hi everyone! We are joining Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop.

I am thankful that was have a nice crop of green beans. There are two kinds, special thanks to Mark of Mark’s Mews for telling me about Roma beans- they are so good.

And here is my poem for Sammy’s Poetry Day based on this photo prompt:

You would be wrong
if you think I like my hair this long
I have to do laundry by hand
and make sure the food is canned
I have no time to spare
just to cut my hair
( Judging by her clothes, I assume she lived in a time before washer machines and refrigerators).

Here are the Friendly Fill-Ins for tomorrow. I came up with the first two and our co-host, Lorianne of Four-Legged Furballs came up with second two.

  1. TBT here: Wow, we wern’t expected a shout-out today. Thank you so much. Glad you discovered and like Roma beans!

Loved the poem! I’m old enough to remember Gramma Cavebear using a wringer-washer machine. The tub was filled with water (sometimes soap was added when it was men’s clothes from farmwork) and swished around with a small paddle for a few minutes. It didn’t have a powered agitator.

As I recall, the tub had a bottom drain. You filled the tub and poured it outside where there weren’t plants you wanted. The soap was bad over time. But Grampa had rigged a pipe to drain the soapy water away under the driveway. Nothing grew there anyway. That helped.

I was old enough (barely) to help with the wringer and did helpful stuff like that when we visited. One problem was always broken buttons. I learned to sew buttons on properly.

    1. Yes, we love the beans. Great recommendation. I didn’t realize my hubby had planted them until he picked all these 🙂
My AUnt Vic had one of those wringer washers, she would drain it into her sink.

  2. My human loves green beans, but she buys them at the market. If she tried to grow them here, she is pretty sure some critter or bug would eat them.

  3. WOW! That’s a great crop of beans – my Mom loves to cook fresh beans but we don’t have a garden like you do….we get them from Farmer’s Market and Mom cooks them up and freezes them so she and Dad can enjoy them all winter. Mom and I love your poem about the lady with the incredible hair. Mom says she will never again complain about having too little hair – this too much hair just HAS to be a lot worse!

    HAHA
    Hugs, Teddy

  4. Those green beans are awesome! I love to put green beans on the grill with a little salt and pepper and olive oil… maybe a little buttah! I can’t even imagine hauling all that hair around every day.

    1. Thank you 🙂 I have never had them like that. I boil them and add buttah. And I use them in green bean casserole at the holidays. XO

  5. When I was a kid, we grew green beans, and eating them straight off the vine was DIVINE! Fresh green beans are the bestest! And yes, sometimes, taking care of the cats seems like it takes up a huge chunk of every day, but it’s so, SO worth it!

  6. Yummy on the fresh beans. I love them too.

Love your poem. I’m so happy I don’t have all that hair.

I’m all ready for the fill-ins tomorrow.

Have a fabulous Thankful Thursday. Scritches to all the kitties. ♥

  7. Oooh yum, that’s a lot of beans!
Love your poem and I can relate as sometimes I just don’t have time to have my hair cut 🙂

  8. Happy Thankful Thursday!!! That’s a lot of delicious-looking green beans. We love the poem that you shared. That sure is some long hair. Thanks for the share. Have a wonderful day.

  10. I really admire your garden and its crop. What’s your favorite way to prepare green beans? That’s a veggie that I have so much trouble cooking in a flavorful way. And your poem is fantastic, as always! I can’t imagine trying to care for that much hair. Purrs!

    1. Thank you 🙂 My hubby deserves all the credit. My favorite is green bean casserole. I usually just boil them and add butter except at the holidays when I do the casserole. We also add them to soup.

  11. Those green beans sure do look good. Mom never heard of Roma beans – she is going to have to look for them. But we don’t have much luck here with gardens.

Nice poem. Mom has curly hair and she is very glad she doesn’t have to brush through all those waves.

Woos – Lightning, Misty, and Timber

  12. Fun poem, yes, there’s no time to cut hair when you even have to boil water to do laundry as they did back then.

Lovely beans, you grew a great crop!

  13. Wow, you have lots of beans too!! We planted green and yellow, I’m not even sure what varieties now, I’d have to look at my seed packets. 🙂
