Mewsic , Books and More

We are joining Comedy Plus’ Awww….Mondays and Book Date’s It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading? And we are also joining Mewsic Moves Me (hosted by Curious as a Cathy, Xmas Dolly, JAmerican Spice and Stacy Uncorked.)

I am currently reading Once Upon a Farm by Rory Feek and I recently finished his other memoir, This Life I Live: One Man’s Extraordinary, Ordinary Life and the Woman Who Changed It Forever.

I was not familiar with Rory or his wife , Joey  who passed away in 2016. They had a tv show about their life together, but I didn’t know about it until I read these books. They both were country writers and singers. She helped raise his 2 daughters and sadly, when they finally had a child, Joey was diagnosed with cancer and only survived until the child’s second birthday.  Despite life’s problems, he maintains a positive attitude and writes of what he has learned from life.

Today is a freebie day on the mewsic so I chose songs written by Rory.

  1. Blake Shelton’s Some Beach- I always liked this, but had no idea that Rory Feek wrote it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTT2LEyjdC4
  2. Joey and Rory-When I’m Gone https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcpjSMmWUDw This was recorded in 2012, long before she was diagnosed with cancer.

  1. Happy Labor Day! How poignant that Miss Joey passed away after that song had been written…….Mom and I have never heard their music before.

    Hugs, Teddy

  2. I’m reading Rude by Katie Hopkins… she is funnier than some of the comedians I’ve recently heard – smart, too.
    Happy Labor Day to everyone.

  3. I followed Rory and Joey. They were a remarkable couple and amazing people. I have not read the books yet because I wasn’t sure I was ready to read them, but I will. I recently saw Rory on an interview show at their farm and I continue to be amazed by his personality and positive attitude. I believe I was following them on FB too when I had a FB account. It was heartbreaking to watch her slip away. I will listen to the two songs you have chosen as soon as I hit “post”. Good Morning!
On second thought, I think it was their blog I was following.

    1. I just learned of them recently. I am sure it was sad to follow their heartbreaking story. He does have a positive attitude and is such a good Dad. XO

  4. I’m reading Small Town Justice. It’s about young girl who’s brother was sent to jail when she was 10. Her parents sent her to live with her aunt. When gets older, she decides to find out who railroaded her brother into jail. However when she gets back home she finds that the killer is closing in and find help in the most unexpected place—help from the family who her brother was supposed to of murdered the husband/father. This is a book full of surprises and is a page turner.

  5. I started hearing about Rory and Joey when she became ill. I didn’t know he wrote Some Beach. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  6. Oh wow! I love Some Beach – I had no idea that Rory Feek wrote that!! And the “When I’m Gone” song always brings tears to my eyes – I followed Joey and Rory through everything – I need to get those books and read them, too. Such a beautiful love story they had, and so sad when she passed.

  7. I had found out about Joey Feek from a good Facebook friend and followed her story. So sad, too young, leaving a young daughter. Rory writing the Blake Shelton song surprises me a tiny bit, but I enjoyed it. Blake Shelton had a concert where I live last month; I was told he put on an excellent performance.

  8. Interesting book, Ellen. Have you started thr book for Cat Scouts book review yet? I haven’t as I wanted to finish this John Grisham book and then start the new one.

    Shoko

  9. Beautiful Music! I did not know their story. I am currently reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Believe it or not, I’ve never read the Harry Potter books!

  10. I don’t know much about Rory and Joey Feek, but I do remember hearing about their family around the time that she passed away. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family. I am grateful, though, that her husband is able to use his memories of her to share stories with readers. Thank you for sharing this with us!

  11. Ellen,

What a sad story! I always hate to hear of someone’s fight against cancer lost. It’s such a heartbreaking disease often with a sad ending. 🙁 I just learned my uncle’s wife was diagnosed with cancer. I need to get an update from my mother to see what has been learned since we spoke last week. There’s so much going on right now that it has my head swimming. Anyhow, it’s always great fun to have you on the dance floor. Thanks for sharing your freebie choices. Have a tunetastic week, dearie!

  12. Glad you enjoyed the book. Again, we’re not furmiliar with the songs. We’ve gotta get out from unner our rock. MOL Big hugs

    Luv ya’

  13. Back in the days when I used to watch country music videos, I remember seeing one or two of Rory and Joey. It sounds like a very sad story.
I did not know Rory wrote “Some Beach”. I love that song (and Blake Shelton)!
