It’s Monday ! What Are You Reading?

Hi, everyone! Today we are joining The Book Date’s It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? Blog Hop. I always read at least 5 books at the same time,I read a few chapters a day of each. Today I am listing 2 of them, but the rest are listed on my Goodreads list.

I am reading Casper the Commuting Cat by Susan Finden, It came out in 2010, I don’t know why it has taken me so long to get around to reading it. I will be reviewing it on April 4th for the a-z challenge which starts this Friday.

I am also planning a big decluttering project now that my hubby is more open to parting with things ( hopefully, not me). I am reading The Joy of Less by Francine Jay. I always thought of myself as being good at parting with objects, but no matter how often I declutter, I still have too much stuff. I am glad my hubby is on board this time and is planning to part with a lot of books , hockey equipment from the 1970’s , etc.

Easter was so early this year that I only put up a few decorations and I was pleased with those. I am definitely going to get rid of any decoration that doesn’t give me joy. If you are looking for a way to motivate yourself to declutter, I recommend this book. I actually like it better than the one that is so popular now called The Joy of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo.

  1. Funny you say that about Easter decorating. We did a lot less this year and liked it a lot more! We put things in different places and it was like they were all new!

  2. We didn’t have any Easter decorations at all because we didn’t realize Easter was coming until last Wednesday! Our mommy likes to declutter because too much stuff drives her bonkers. If you donate anything be sure to get receipts! Yep, we’re CPA Cats so we’re always thinking of taxes!

  3. I look forward to your A-Z reviews. Surely your husband would not part with you! He knows he is blessed, I am pretty confident. I do not like to read more than one book at a time. I pretty much devour one at a time. I am behind with reviews, as I got burned out on it. Seriously. I will be getting back at it in April, some old, some new. I have learned to be a bit selective, though. I have to have balance. We all do. Hugs, my friend.

    1. You are so sweet to say my hubby wouldn’t part with me, sometimes I think I am one more cat away from break up. I know what you mean about reviews, they have to be a book you truly want to read. XO

  4. Our Human doesn’t like to read more than one book at a time but she does purr-mit herself to do so as long as it’s one in English and one in Hebrew. She will also go so far as to read one fiction and one non-fiction book at a time. At purr-sent, she is reading Anthony Doerr’s “All the Light We Cannot See” and she says it’s so beautiful, she doesn’t want it to end. She is also reading (in Hebrew) a non-fiction book called “The King’s Dream” by Dr. Micha Goodman, about Yehuda Halevi’s “Book of the Khuzari” (Jewish philosophy).
As for de-cluttering, Mummy did throw out some stuff when We moved to our new apartment, but generally, it takes an Earthquake to make her throw Stuff away (mol).

    1. I am impressed that your Mom can read Hebrew. I love Jewish literature, but I can’t read Hebrew. I haven’t moved since I got married 23 years ago so I need a big decluttering.

  5. I’ve been wanting to read Casper the Commuting Cat as well. I generally read 1 or 2 books at a time- one fiction, one nonfiction. Right now only one book. I do love to declutter – which I do every few months or so – I have so much junk but no matter how many boxes I take to the thrift store, there’s always more (I think it grows on its own.) It helps that I’ve stopped shopping for stuff! Have fun decluttering!

  6. The most our human reads is the morning paper – which if it doesn’t stop raining hard won’t be fetched from the newsagent!

  7. Mom’s rule is if she hasn’t needed something in a year, she doesn’t need it period. So there’s really no clutter around here – maybe a tiny bit in the basement but that’s just because it’s the “Clearing house” for everything that Mom doesn’t want upstairs. De-cluttering feels GOOD – it’s tough to start but once you do, you just keep going!

    Love and Hugs, Sammy

    1. I agree, it does feel very good to declutter. I need that rule too, but I hold out hope of fitting into different size clothes, I should toss them all and reward myself if I ever lose weight. XO and love to you both

    1. I wish you did live closer to help declutter and because I want to meet you both and your Mom too.

  8. We don’t decorate here anymore. Too much a chance for hurting ourselves. When you get our ages it’s time to just stay of ladders and such.

I’m reading a Debbie Macomber book. I can’t remember the name, but it’s a feel good book and every now and then that’s just what I need.

    Have a fabulous day. โ˜บ

  9. I probably really should read The Joy of Less, as I am planning a lot of Spring cleaning over the next couple of weeks. I didn’t realize how much stuff I had accumulated over the years until I had to pack it all up before moving to my new house last year. So, I’ve been working on getting rid of a lot of completely unnecessary items.

As for what I’m reading, I just started Innocence by Dean Koontz. I’m one of those who loves a good horror/thriller, and he’s one of my favorite authors in that genre.

    Purrs!

    1. I have only read a few Dean Koontz. I prefer non-fiction, I think you would like this book on decluttering.

  10. I’m always reading 2 or 3 books at the same time, but as I’m so busy right now I am only reading one – The Taming of the Queen by Philippa Gregory (she is one of my favourite authors).

I’ve read Casper’s book and loved it!

    Purrs xx

  11. I too have plans to rid the house of many unneeded items, but my first job this weekend was to do the taxes! Afterward, I wasn’t in the mood for anything other than a hot bath…

  12. In the past two years I’ve been doing a bit of decluttering the closet, but it seems like I didn’t make a dent to it yet. It’s tough parting with things, but they’re just things, especially clothes that no longer fit are even harder to part with.

I picked up The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo a few weeks back and hopefully I’ll start reading as soon as this week.

    1. I have the same problem with clothes- I try to be optimistic that they will fit again.

  13. I need to declutter badly! I’ll add this book to my “to read” list. I love following you on Goodreads – I find so many good books to read through you!

I have a hard time letting go of things that have sentimental value or memories attached to them – even if I don’t need or use them.

    1. I am glad you have found good books through my goodreads list- I love that site. I have a hard time getting rid of things with eyes like stuffed animals – I am crazy.

  14. Hi Ellen I wish you good luck with decluttering. My rule of thumb is if I have not used an item in 6 months it is given away. (Except for my little Library & music & art on walls).
I go thru my clothes every 4-6 months are give away anything I have not worn or that no longer fits. I have never been one for clutter as it amps up my Hyperactivity. So for me, less is more.
As for reading I am now enjoying “Widows” by Lynda La Plante my ‘go to’ author. Another gritty UK suspense drama…..
Siddhartha Henry is ‘purr-usin’ “The Velveteen Rabbit’.
    (((hugs))) Sherri-Ellen

  15. We just saw your comment from yesterday. We looked at the bunny all it says is Fisher Price. There are several here, a bear, bunny, puppy and a Christmas mouse.
    They are puffy and soft
    Hugs madi your bfff

  18. Lady is always on a decluttering mission. It has been a year, and slowly she is getting there! She is currently reading a book about money called “Money Talk” and a novel called “All that light cannot see.”

    Happy spring cleaning!

  19. I didn’t decorate for Easter, but I did do a bit of garden work. As per reading, The Druid and The Flower, which is a fantasy by Russell Sullivan, a new indie author. I’m about 10% into it and thus far, would give it 3-4 stars – Hopefully, this will improve as he gets deeper into the book and gains confidence.

  20. Wowee, 5 books at once? I would find it hard to keep them all straight. I’m reading the first Cat in the Stacks book right now. I’m pretty sure I learned about the series from Mudpie over at Mochas, Mysteries and Meows.

  21. The mom needs to get back into reading. She used to read a lot. Now it seems like all she reads is cat blogs. Though we don’t see anything wrong with that. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. I don’t see anything wrong with that eitheer0 I read at least 100 of them. ๐Ÿ™‚

  22. We don’t decorate for Easter any more…the cute, fuzzy bunny & peeps were part of our paring down effort.
I’m not reading anything right now…waiting for some books I just ordered to arrive. More cozy mysteries ๐Ÿ™‚
