Hi everyone! Today we are joining the Kid Lit version of It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading? hosted by Unleashing Readers and Teach Mentor Texts.
*Disclaimer: I was given a PDF copy of Real Hamsters Don’t Bite in exchange for a fair review. All opinions are my own.
Real Hamsters Don’t Bite: Mighty and Brennon Run Away to FInd Cat Land and Unzip the Truth by Alexis Cleoford is a wonderful children’s book. It is a chapter book for grades 4-9, but could easily be read aloud to younger children as well and is even fun for adults.
Two cats, Brennon and Mighty are not happy about having to stay at a Pet Hotel so once their parents pick them up from there, they decided to run away and find Cat Land where cats are treated the way they wish to be treated. Along the way, they discover cats are being tortured by hamsters and decide to put a stop to that.
I enjoyed the writing style as well as little bits of information about cats that children will learn as they read the story. For example, we learn some foods are poisonous to cats like onions. I highly recommend this book for any age. I look forward to reading more in the series and introducing my great-niece to it, but she is only 1 year and 7 months old so I will have to wait a bit for that. You can buy a Kindle copy for only $2.99 at Amazon.
We are also joining Comedy Plus’ Awww….Mondays blog hop.
Be sure to stop by tomorrow, Phoebe is having a contest and the winner will get some catnip toys and a catnip mat.
That book sounds very interesting!! You know how much we love reading about cats!!! Thanks for the review!!
Thank you, I know you like kitty books. π
I think you’ll have a great time reading this to your little niece. One is never too young – or too old – to be read to. π
Have a blessed day!
I agree, I already read to her. I hope you had a blessed day too.
What fun it will be to read to Rylee! Phoebe is having a contest tomorrow? I’ll be here for sure!!!
Hugs, Teddy
Yes, I read to her now, but shorter books π XO
This sounds like such a cute and fun read. I really like to hear that the book also throws in information that will help children, and all readers, learn more about cats. And you’re always awww worthy, Phoebe!
It was π Phoebe thanks you too.
That book sounds sweet. I would read it myself. I am not reading a book right now because our life has been crazy since April. I am glad I can check back on Monday posts for your book suggestions. I will look forward to seeing what Phoebe is up to with the contest. I will sit out the contest and let someBODY with kitties win the prizes.
Sorry your life is crazy right now, I hope everything is OK.
Oh, yes everything is okay… just crazy busy! Thanks for thinking of us.
Glad everything is OK.
That sure does sound like a fun book. Thanks for that great review. We will be back tomorrow for the contest, Phoebe. You all have a nice day.
Thank you. We hope you had a good day too.
Sounds like an interesting book. Of course, you had my at ‘two cats’. I’m currently reading Marcha Fox’s newest release (out on the 29th of last month) The Terran Debacle, Prisoners in Area 51 is book 7 in Ms. Fox’s series, but could easily stand alone. While this story was covered in a previous book, it was from Crenna’s point of view (human girl). Prisoners in Area 51 is from Thryon’s perspective. For any of you who haven’t read this series, Thyron is a sentient, alien vegemal (part plant, part animal), though he identifies with plants) and one of my favorite fictional characters.
As with all her books, Ms. Fox’s science is sound (she is retired from NASA), but her degree in Physics didn’t teach her how to include humor, for instance Thyron’s horror over human use of paper OR his belief that the expression, ‘holy guacamole’ is a god vs. expression of surprise.
Those sound very interesting and creative.
Sounds like a really fun and interesting story. I just started “The Forgetting Time” by Sharon Guskin last night. It’s supposed to be about reincarnation (one of my favourite subjects), so I’m eager to see how the story unfolds.
That is one of my interest as well. I highly recommend books by Brian Weiss, he hypnotizes people and does past life regression.
Sounds like an interesting book. I definitely have students who will be into the cat facts.
It is a fun book.
I’m reading It’s Always the Husband by Michele Campbell.
Kate, Aubrey, and Jenny. They first met as college roommates and soon became inseparable, even though they are as different as three women can be. Twenty years later, one of them is standing at the edge of a bridge . . and someone else is urging her to jump.
How did things come to this?
As the novel cuts back and forth between their college years and their adult years, you see the exact reasons why these women love and hate each otherβbut can feelings that strong lead to murder? Or will everyone assume, as is often the case, that itβs always the husband?
Awww on Phoebe. We’ll be back tomorrow.
Have a purrfect Awww Monday, Phoebe. My best to your wonderful mom. βΊ
That sounds like a very good book.
Thanks for sharing! This brought back memories of my mother reading to me as a child. She sometimes interjected the phrase “Meanwhile, back at the ranch” when a scene changed. It made me giggle. Only today did I learn that it was a silent movie trope, originally flashed on the screen before a literal ranch came into focus. There’s even a Wikipedia article:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meanwhile,_back_at_the_ranch
Be well!
Thank you for the link, i have heard that said, but did not know the meaning behind it. Glad I brought back a happy memory.
That book does sound pretty darn cute!

I haven’t heard of that one.
Our mom is reading a book about The Dakota, an apartment building in NYC with a long history. She says it’s interesting reading about what New York was like in the 1800’s.
That sounds like one for my to read list.
