I’m Sammy and I Pee in the Tub

Happy Thursday everyone! This week is flying by, but I guess every week does. Today is behavior day and my Sammy is a sweet guy, but he has a bad habit. Please don’t tell anyone at Scouts though- I don’t want to embarass Sammy.

Sammy likes to pee in the tub, in his defense, he does use the drain side. No, this isn’t an episode of Seinfeld ( remember when George was “the urinator”). Sammy is a big boned tall guy and likes a lot of room to spread out so I guess he figures the tub is best. I don’t know how to break him of this and there are a lot of worst places like catnip mats ( thanks Lucy). I just make sure I clean the tub before I shower every day.

Does anyone else have a cat that does this?

This is Sammy’s costume from last year, he won first place at the local pet store. He was Harry Pawter, I crocheted the scarf and the glasses were made with a pipe cleaner. :

PS:Did everyone get their Fall newsetter? There is a contest in it and no one has even tried to guess at the question. If you knowย  the answer please write it in the comment section.

  1. Gosh we didn’t get our Fall newsletter (sniff sniff)…….maybe it will come later today? Email is sometimes SLOW around here! Love Sammy’s costume – he looks just like Harry Pawter – no wonder he won last year’s contest. I’m having a contest at my Sam-O-Ween party on the 31st – maybe Sam can enter??? As for his bad habit in the tub……things could be worse that’s for sure….at least he’s doing his business in a place that’s easy to clean. My Mom has been looking for one of the HIGH-sided litter boxes that we’ve seen on some kitty blogs – sometimes I forget to “squat” far enough down in my box and I have a bit of “spillover” which Mom has to clean up!

    Hugs, Sammy

    1. We get spillovers too. Sammy is going to have a different costume this year and he definitely wants to be in the contest.

  2. Sammy’s habit could be a LOT worse. At least you can clean it up easily and it’s not making permanent damage. Don’t worry, we won’t let anyone at Scouts know.

We didn’t know you had a newsletter….we just subscribed.

    1. Thank you. I am going to resend the newsletter because my sample one never came to me either so there is definitely a problem. Thanks for signing up- hopefully it will arrive today.

  3. Well, at least it is in the tub, heehee
We will keep your secret Sammy.
We have a deep box, but some kitties like to pee
standing, so the box needs to be quite high at the back ๐Ÿ˜‰
    We like that costume !

  4. We got your newsletter yesterday but we didn’t know the answer. I think nobody guessed because it was hard. We will guess Felix the Cat but we are probably wrong. Our mom is not good at guessing games, she does Sammy Kimmel’s Tuesday Teaser every week and she is consistently wrong. We love Sammy’s Harry Pawter costume. Your mom is super creative!
Did you try experimenting with different sizes or different depths of litter box? If you are going to have a cat go outside of the litter box the bathtub isn’t that bad of a spot. Don’t worry Sammy, Andy will not tell any of the Cat Scouts about your habit. Love, Cali, Andy, Tater and Shelly (C.A.T.S.)

    1. Mom did not mean to sound nasty when she said your contest was hard. She reread the comment after she posted it and thought it sounded snarky. She sure didn’t mean it that way. She could not edit the comments. Sorry.

      1. I didn’t think you were being mean, but I appreciate you taking the time to explain that you weren’t being nasty.

    2. I am glad someone got the newsletter. Sorry, Felix is a good guess, but wrong. I think I will get a larger litter box because Sammy is 20 pounds. Glad you like the costume, thanks for the commpliment.

  5. My Tungsten wets in the tub once in a while. Cammie, one of our foster-cats, likes to wait for others downstairs by the litter-boxes, and chase them upstairs. There’s no harm in it – from Cammie’s point of view – but the others understandably don’t like it. So once in a while, when she thinks Cammie is lying in wait for her, Tungsten will go in the tub. Sometimes, I escort her downstairs and up again, so Cammie won’t chase her…

    1. If I were you, I would have another litter box somewhere else so Cammie can’t torture everyone. I guess the tub isn’t a bad spot to pee compared to other places like my throw rugs, etc. I will say a prayer for Renn to have a full recovery.

  6. We hopes you is sure he don’t gots a UTI–our vetty tole mommer that boy kitties who haf UTIs liketa pee on glass or ceramic, an’ mommer sez that our oldest ancestor, Mouse McNasty, peed on the glass tops of the end tables. Sure enuf, efurry time it happened, he had a UTI. But if he is in good health, why, heck–seems legit to us!!! Easily cleaned, an’ you don’t hafta guess where it is!!

    1. Thank you for letting me know that. Sammy has been checked, but that is good to know if any of the others start doing that.

  7. Yes, we have tub peers, but not on a regular or exclusive basis. Nick is our culprit, and he is also one of our biggest kitties! I, too know that it could be worse (and has been thanks to our premier peer on anything, Snafu). I have a spray bottle of bleach and water handy that I use to clean the tub before we shower. Nick has also been known to poop in the tub, too. Yuk! But, again, I see it as an easy clean up with no beds, blankets or carpets needing laundering. When you have 7 kitties, pee, poop and throw-ups are a daily expected occurrence! That’s why I’m a stay at home cat mum!

    1. I guess I am lucky there is no one ooping in the tub. I am a stay at home kitty mom too with 15 it is a full time job.

  8. Nopawdy here uses da tub, but mommy sez dat Ransom hoo lived here afur me used da baffroom sink. And hers didn’t cawe cuz it wuz way easier to clean up since most of it went down da drain anyways. MOL And yes, weez got da mewsletter. weez just didn’t know da answer. So da only black cats weez kuld fink of fwum da tee vee sides meez wunnewful Andy
s answer is Sabrina fwum da show of da same name or Serena fwum bewitched. But weez know dat’s not wight so weez just didn’t answer. And by da way Sammy, meez won’t tell any of da scouts. But yous might be supwised how many of us hav little purrawlems dat ow pawents hav to luvvinly put up wiff.

    Luv ya’

    Dezi and Lexi

    1. Dezi and Lexi- you got the show now name the cat and the small stuffed kitty is yours. It is easy to clean the tub and I don’t mind, but Sammy’s Dad doesn’t like him to do that.

        1. That is correct Dezi, but Kitty Cat Chronicles got the answer in before you. I will send you a consolaltion prize though of catnip toys and a little silvervine for you and Lexi.

  9. None of us have EVER peed in the tub although, truth be told, ‘someone’ has been known to pee on a nip mouse. Sisters! MO– USES! That’s all I have to say.

    Purrs,
    Nissy

    1. Lucy has peed on the nip mat just to ruin it for others- I take it that is what your sister does Nissy.

  10. Sammy, no need to be embarrassed! The tub really is just a big giant litter box, right?
We have big giant litter boxes too – made out of big rubbermaid plastic containers. Mom cut a hole in the side of them so we could easily go in and out. The high sides keep everything in (like litter – Sophie is a kicker!) We have 3 of those boxes. Maybe that would help?

Our guess on the kitty from the newsletterโ€ฆ Salem from Sabrina the Teenage Witch?!?

P.S. LOVE your Harry Pawter costume!!!

    1. Good idea with the rubbermaid box, I may try that. You got the answer first so you win the small stuffed cat and I will add in some catnip toys too. Congratulations!!! Sammy says thank you -he’s glad you liked his costume ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. They always say that regular sized litter boxes are actually too small for many cats… but I get the feeling that most homes would not accommodate bathtub sized ones! Well, like you said, Sammy could always be doing worse.

    1. Sorry about the newsletter, I don’t know why some of you didn’t get it when my stats say they sent it out. I can try to email it to you. I prefer pee to poop in the tub.

  12. LC (a Cat Who Came Before) did that when she arrived as a kitten. I saw her sniff the drain, back up to it and pee. It made perfect sense to me too. I didn’t mind, as I turn on the shower before I get in there anyway. And if she had kept doing it, it would have saved me a lot of kitty litter! But she stopped for some reason. ~ MARK

  13. When we first got Chris, he pooped in the tub. We started calling him “Tub Pooper C.” We started keeping a little water in the tub and it worked. He stopped pooping in the tub and started pooping on the floor. That ended the water in the tub. ๐Ÿ™‚
