Friendly Fill-Ins Week 501

Hi everyone. Before we get started, I want to give condolences to the blog, Cat-a-Holic for the loss of sweet Laila. To visit, click here.

Time for the fill-ins. I came up with the first two sentences and my wonderful co-host, Lorianne of Four-Legged Furballs came up with the second two. If you didn’t do a post for them, you can also answer in the comment section. Thank you to all who participate. Don’t forget to add your link to the hop so everyone can visit you. The link is open until Wednesday night.

I. ____________________________ is a New Year’s tradition for me.
2. ______________________ is not the same as ____________________________.
3. I would pick _________ as my theme song for 2026.

4. I’m a coward when it comes to _________ but brave when _________.
My answers:
I. Eating black-eyed peas is a New Year’s tradition for me. I started doing this for good luck several years ago. Thank you to Angel LouLou’s mom for her recipe.
2. Organizing is not the same as cleaning. I love putting things in their proper place, but things like dusting, not so much.
3. I would pick Johnny Mercer’s Accentuate the Positive as my theme song for 2026.

4. I’m a coward when it comes to mice but brave when it comes to spiders. I like spiders mostly- would not want a tarantula in the house though. 🙂
We are joining Feline Friday now hosted by Messymimi.
Our flashback is from January 2016. Angel Sammy was ready for The Cardwood Derby at Cat Scouts with is TARDIS.

  1. Mama likes spider, too, but snakes….another thing! And thank you for mentioning our black-eyed pea recipe. We had them yesterday, too, and last night and will eat them all week because they taste so good!!! Lentils are used all over Europe but black-eyed peas are the BEST, almost like meat. Happy days ahead to you.

  2. I’m sorry to hear about the loss of sweet Laila, and my condolences to the family. Eating black eyed peas is a tradition for me too, and I’m the same way as #2. Sweet pic of Angel Sammy.

  3. My condolences to all who knew and loved Laila.

I actually would not mind a pet tarantula. The only spiders I don’t like are the very venomous ones, those may not be in my house.

Angel Sammy was certainly a contender in the derby, that’s a cool TARDIS. Thank you for linking up with Feline Friday.

  4. I was very saddened to earn of Laila. I remember her so well. And they both were/are blog furriends.

  5. Charlee: “Our Dada says when they were at their friends’ house for New Year’s Eve, they were talking about eating black-eyed peas for good luck, too! Dada had never heard of this and asked if you could get the same effect by playing a Black-Eyed Peas song, but apparently you cannot.”
Chaplin: “Angel Sammy! That’s a nice TARDIS you had there! Although I’m not sure it’s that much bigger on the inside …”

  6. Our mom is not afraid of mice … rats on the other hand. Thankfully, she’s never encountered one not in a cage. Our mom has never had black-eyed peas. That was a great memory of Sammy in his Tardis for the Cat Scouts Cardwood Derby. 7. I. _Drinking sparkling apple cider_ is a New Year’s tradition for me.
    2. _Meek _ is not the same as _weak_.
    3. I would pick _Hard Fought Hallejuah_ as my theme song for 2026. *Credit goes to Messy Mimi for reminding me of this song.

    4. I’m a coward when it comes to _big jumping types insects_ but brave when _it comes to most other insects_.

I hope you and hubby are blessed with joy, peace, and health throughout 2026, dear Ellen! xo

    1. Thank you for these great answers. That is a good song. I wish the same for you and DH. XO

  8. I didn’t know Laila but it is always heartbreaking when they have to leave us.
I did check out Angel LouLou’s Mom’s recipe for black-eyed peas… it has wine in it!!! I am not much in to dusting either. I am pretty cowardly when it comes to mice and spiders but roaches make me scream like a little girl. It’s that fast skittering around they do. It’s creeping me out right now! I think Angel Sammy was definitely ready with his TARDIS.
    My Fill-Ins~
    I. Taking the smallest tiny bite of creamed herring (ick) between two Triscuits is a New Year’s tradition for me.
    2. Chili in a can is not the same as SSNS’s chili.
    3. I would pick HAPPY by Pharrell Williams as my theme song for 2026. It’s okay to be HAPPY.
    4. I’m a coward when it comes to having my BP taken but brave when I go to the dentist.
    Enjoy your weekend, Meowing Crew!

    1. Yes, it is always sad. I don’t use the wine. No roaches here, but they would make me scream. Thanks for these great answers. Nothing in a can is as good as homemade. Great song. XO

Great fill ins to start out the New Year!

  11. Adorable picture! I’m the exact opposite – mice don’t bother me but spiders freak me out.

  12. Good answers! I’m a coward when it comes to spiders of any size. Cute flashback photo.

  13. Fun questions and answers! We grew up eating black eyed peas for luck on New Years. We had ours already, and still have some for tonight. … I like spiders, too, but mice should stay outside. Now we did have gerbils a couple of times. Those are cute. 🙂

  14. We have to say Angel Sammy and his Tardis are truly epic, in fact, we’re a little jealous! MOL Pawesome fill-ins, and OMC spiders, not a chance, thank cod Melvyn is always on ‘pider pawtrol! MOL Happy 2026 and here’s wishing mew a furbulous year!
