D is for Dewey

Hi everyone!  I am guessing you are all familiar with Dewey The Library Cat by Vicki Myron, but that is all I could come up with for D. DSCF0976

In case you are not familiar with Dewey, he was thrown into a book return box as a kitten. The librarian rescued him and he became the library cat who everyone love to visit. There is also a children’s book about him and a sequel with stories of people who knew him and how he helped them through difficult times.

There are a lot of great blogs to be discovered on the A-Z Blogging Challenge, I have found several that I now follow- including 3 cat ones.

  1. Our mom loved the book about Dewey. It was nice to honor him as your “D” post. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

  2. My human almost got to work with Dewey’s human on a book… but after several phone and email exchanges, they didn’t really hit it off. Their personalities and styles were way too different.

  3. OH! Dewey!! I cried at the end of the book but it was so wonderful! He meant so much to so many people!! Great Choice for “D”!

  4. My Mom has told me that the book about Dewey is one of the most memorable books about cats that she’s ever read. It touched her (whatever THAT means!). Dewey sure brought a lot of joy and happiness to everyone he met. I hope I do that too!

    Love, Sammy

    1. I haven’t met you, but you bring me a lot of joy in your posts. I would love to meet you too. XO and love to you sweet boy.

  5. There are now two Dewey books, but I’ve only read the first one, and it was delightful.

  6. Rumor was, that a movie was slated to be made about Dewey, starring Meryl Streep as Vicki! But, I keep checking IMDB.com but find no mention of it. Wouldn’t that be great, tho’?

    1. I cried too, I always cry when a kitty died, but at least he had an awesome life.

  8. I haven’t read that one, but if you read The Cat in the Stacks mystery series by Miranda James, the cat’s name is Diesel…..that would work for “D”. I ordered the next book in the series, and it’s supposed to arrive today!

    1. Good to know, in case I do books again next year 🙂 I will have to look into those mysteries.

    1. I am surprised you haven’t read it, but then again, I am not surprised because you are very busy.

  9. We have heard of Dewey but we haven’t read the book(s)! We will be on the lookout for the toys. We were wondering if they were lost in the mail but we didn’t won’t to bother your Mama about it in case she forgot. We know how crazy busy life can get with animals and all their needs! 🙂 Thank you for sending them.XO

the critters in the cottage xo

  10. Mom says she loved that book but when she got to the part where Dewey, you know, left, she was so shocked she cried buckets of tears. She remembers so vividly how shocked she was, she screamed out and cried and Abby came running to see what was wrong. Abby had a lot of sympathy for whenever she found Mom sad. Mom really misses that special connection she had with Abby.

    1. I cried too. I am sure your Mom will always miss Abby. My Lucy used to come to me whenever I blew my nose ( even if I wasn’t crying, she must have thought I was). I will always miss her. XO

    1. I understand because I had the Casper book for about 2 years and just read it.

  11. Hey Ellen, did you know they also have a book called Dewey’s Nine Lives? It has short stories about other kitties in it. I read that one but still haven’t read Dewey (the original book) yet!
