Hi everyone ! I have a great book to recommend today. The True Tails of Baker and Taylor: The Library Cats Who Left Their Pawprints on a Small Town …………..and The World by Jan Louch and Lisa Rogak is a wonderful book. I was thrilled when I was contacted by Lisa Rogak to see if I wanted to review it*. If her name sounds familiar it is because I reviewed her Cats on The Job book back in November– that was fantastic too.
I thought the names sounded familiar and then I remembered my cousin, she relocates libraries for a living, had given me a gift in a Baker and Taylor bag. I saved the bag ( see photo) because it was cute,ย but I had no idea what Baker and Taylor was. For those of you with your head buried in a litter box like me, they are a big bookseller that many libraries order their books from.
Jan Louch was an assistant librarian at a small town in Nevada when she decided to get a cat for the library. Her and the library director saved money and split all expenses for the cat. They knew they wanted two cats figuring one would be lonely, but they only had the funds for one at first. Luckily, after a short time, the Backer and Taylor company offered to buy the other cat for them and pay for expenses and the rest is history.
The two Scottish Folds became famous quickly receiving letters and even requests to check them out like books ( they were not allowed to be checked out). This book was mainly about the cats, but was also Jan Louch’s memoir. I loved reading how protective she was of the cats. The book also has short interviews with several other library cats. It makes me wish all libraries would have cats.
I am joining the Book Date’s It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? Blog Hop
And Phoebe is hoping that her photo above is Awwwww…….worthy to join Comedy Plusย for their Awww…Monday Hop.
*Disclaimer: I received the book for free in exchange for a fair review. All opinions are my own.
As you know, we loved this book. We think it is a must read for all cat people. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
Yes, it is a great book.
Great review. My brother was a librarian. I remember Baker and Taylor through his work. This sounds so good. I need to read this book!
That is great that your brother was a librarian. You will love this book.
I definitely need to check out these kitties.
I know you will love them.
Wow, their lives seem very interesting, we have to check them out.
I am sure you will enjoy the book.
My human used to have a bag she got from Book Expo America that had Baker and Taylor on it! In fact, she may still have it somewhere.
They are nice bags.
We have read this book and loved it!!! Jack will be reviewing on Library of Cats later this week! Phoebe definitely is Awwwww…Mondays Blog hop-worthy!!! Kisses to all our loves!!
I look forward to Jack’s review. Phoebe says thank you. And all your loves send kisses back.
We’ve seen some review of the Baker and Taylor book – it sounds like a sweet one and we agree that all libraries should have cats! The big used book store in the next town over from us has a resident cat – you never know when he’ll come up to say hello. Thanks for the reviews.
Hugs, Sammy
I would love to see cats on all libraries, book stores, pretty much everywhere ๐ XO
Our local library has a cat who visits every day.
That is nice, I wish ours did.
When you walk into a business and there is a cat there, you immediately feel well-disposed towards it. I do, anyway! The book sounds great.
That’s Purrfect
Around My Kitchen Table
I agree, I would frequent places with cats.
I’ve been hearing such great things about this book, and your review is just one more reason why I’m going to have to get my hands on a copy of it. Like you, I wish every library had a cat. Of course, then I’d probably never leave the library. Purrs!
Good point, I would never want to leave the library if it had cats. Now I just go get my books and come home to my own kitties ๐
What a great book! EVERY library should have a library cat or two. Don’t you think?
Purrs,
Seville
Definitely! ๐

I am sure food service girl will like this book. Yes, all libraries need cats ๐
We’ve seen quite a few good reviews of this book. The mom has added it to her reading list.
Good, she will love it.
My favorite cat book of the year so far!
Mine too ๐
Sounds like a really interesting book. Mom has the one about Dewey, also a library kitteh.
That was a good one too.
We have heard of various library cats before like Dewey, for example. It does seem that a cat living at a local library fits nicely ๐ We will tell LP to look this book up as it sounds very good ๐
the critters in the cottage xo
This book interviews several library cats ๐
Our local library had a delightful cat that always curled up on a pillow by the check-out. It wandered around the library and was loved. Complaints led to Mittens removal.
That is so sad that there were complaints. I hope Mittens got a good home.
We hadn’t heard of this book so thanks for the review! We hope your mom had a Happy Mother’s Day!
Thank you, I did. I hope your Mom had a nice Mother’s Day too.
I love reading so I have read several books about cats. Your review sounds great. ALways nice to find new things to enjoy. Have a good week and thanks for sharing.
Thank you for stopping by. Hope you have a great week too.
Sounds great…I’m adding this one to my wishlist.
I know you will love it.
Mom Paula “reads” books by listening to them while she’s driving for work. She’s currently listening to a David Baldacci book.
That is a great way to make the drive to work better.
YOur review made me want to check this book out even more. Sounds like a good read on a lazy afternoon ๐
Yes, it sure is.
Awww … Baker & Taylor. I’ve followed them for years (I work in the industry) and they were my first introduction to Scottish Folds! The company still gives out bags (that are always popular) at most book shows and have even had staff dressed up in Baker & Taylor costumes to greet people!
Scottish folds are wonderful cats. Have you read the books by Peter Gethers about his cat, Norton?
This sounds like a great book. My sister is a library person. I’ll have to ask her if she’s read this. Phoebe is adorable ๐
Phoebe says thank you. And I thank you for visiting. ๐
Sounds like a great book!
Purrs xx
