Hi everyone! We are joining Comedy Plus’ Awww….Mondays.

Dusty is posing with the books I am reading.

I love this photo, it looks like Dusty really likes the book,  How Lucky Am I. I hope she feels she is lucky.

  1. How Lucky Am I by Christian Watson is one of my all-time favorites. It can be read in one sitting and has simple advice for living a good life.  I made my mom and hubby read it and I am going to try to get The Great One to read it too although she may be too young to get it all. It is a graphic novel/self-help book about a skeleton, Mr. Skelly. The illustrations are wonderful and so are the messages, like how lucky am I to have lost what I wanted to find what I deserved?
  2. The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America’s Shining Women by Kate Moore is sad, but interesting. In the 1920’s women painted radium dials on watches and  would put the paint brush in their mouth to save time instead of rinsing it. They ended up dying awful deaths because the radium ate through their bones. The watch company denied radium was dangerous for along time and eventually got sued, but it was too late for the girls.
  3. The First 20 Hours: How to Learn Anything….Fast by Josh Kaufman came out in 2013, but I just discovered it. He claims we can learn anything in 20 hours if we approach it a certain way. I hope so because there are a lot of things I want to learn.

If you only read one book this year, please read How Lucky Am I.

Rosie will be here with all the latest tomorrow, although she may be in hiding because the kids will be here again.

  1. Cute picture of Dusty, and interesting books! I think The Radium Girls would be too sad for me. It is wise and ethical of course, to stay aware of workplace hazards, and provide protection for those who work with them. XO

    1. I am surprised I didn’t know about that book sooner. It was a sad time with workers not taken care of. XO

  7. Charlee: “Our Dada read an article about those radium girls once! And he also read a novella called ‘The Only Harmless Great Thing’ about it, where the companies hired elephants (who could communicate with sign language in the world of the story) to replace the radium girls.”
    Chaplin: “Yep that sounds like something Dada would read.”

    I just ordered Books 1-9 of Jan Karon’s Mitford home series. She is NC writer and lives in nc.
    They are not new came out years ago but I only read 1

  14. The story of the Radium Girls is heartbreaking, horrifying, and infuriating. “Oh, be sure to put the brush in your mouth.” Grrr… Happy reading, my dear, and thank you for the list.

  20. Dusty is a delight and the books sound fascinating and worth looking for at the library. Remind Rosie she can write today before the kids arrive and she has to hide.
