Awww….Monday

Hi everyone. We are joining Comedy Plus’ Awww….Mondays .

Dusty is posing with one of the books I am currently reading and enjoying. How To Be Okay When Nothing Is OK by Jenny Lawson is the 4th book of hers that I have read and all are funny and relatable. This one is part memoir and part self-help tool book to guide one through tough days.

The author suffers from anxiety which I can definitely relate too. In one part she explains how she always says yes to things to try to please others then she has to come up with an excuse to get out of it. I have done that so many times, but now I just say no to most. The only time I will attend things despite my discomfort is for the kids.

Today is W Day on The A-Z Blogging Challenge. W is for writer.

Obviously, I am a writer or at least I try to be. As most of you know, I have written a few children’s books.

Penny is planning on being here tomorrow with her money saving tips.

  1. I love the new book. Your artwork is just unbelievable. And needless to say the author wrote a fantastic story. I used to say yes to people, but I can tell you now that I’m old that I don’t think I need to say yes to anybody but myself.

    1. Thank you. I think they way now too, well, I won’t say no to anything for the kids. XO

  2. You are definitely a wonderful writer……your kids books are so very special and the messages they carry are “softly” presented and very on point for kids. You should be incredibly proud – you deserve it!

    Love, Pam (and Teddy too)

  3. I had no idea you were an author! Cool beans 🙂
I will try to look up your books.
Thanks, too, for the book suggestion How to Be OK. It sounds very relatable.
Dusty is adorable. Books and cats generally catch my attention !
    Take care.

  4. Love seeing the books and I am a proud owner! Buyer. I gave Jamesie two, and still have the signed one.

  5. It takes maturing until you finally can say no to things you really don’t want to do. I occasionally get myself into something but I’ve learned to back out early. My time on earth is too limited to waste.

  6. Charlee: “Yep, we know you’re a writer! We have the ‘Not a Skunk’ book, and I am not a skunk either!”
Chaplin: “One of your nicknames says otherwise.”
Charlee: “THAT IS JUST A NICKNAME!”

  7. Dusty is a cutie pie and the book sounds like a great read.

Yay on being a published author.

Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week. Scritches to the kitties and a big hug to mom. ♥

  8. Ellen YOU are a writer…
I sent one of my copies to ‘My Friend Joanie’ to the wife of one of my favorite NCSU Physics Grad students. Sandra is a kindergarten teacher in Arkansas and all of the family are animal lovers.
I know her class will love it.

  9. It’s hard to say no, but you can’t say yes to everything. I have a difficult time with this, too. Thanks for the book review. I hope it gives you the support needed to deal with anxiety. I find praying, even when I don’t see answers right away just giving everything over to God gives me peace. This didn’t happen instantly. I had to surrender it all to Him. That should be an easy thing, right? Well, nope, it’s not. Humans want to hang on to their baggage for some reason, but when we let go then WOW! 😉

  10. I think if you have books that are published you are definitely a writer. Cute cats. Dropping by from the A-Z Challenge and yes learning to say no is a useful lesson.

  11. I think I should check out this book that Dusty is posing with today.
Ellen, you are most certainly a writer. A writer of my most favorite book genre… children’s books with wonderful illustrations. Your books bring joy!

    1. Awww…thank you. I am glad they bring you joy. And I do think you would find a lot of useful things in the one I am reading. XO

  12. I’ve read some or most of Jenny Lawson’s books but haven’t seen this one. They are all good, aren’t they! 🙂

  13. You are a writer and I have enjoyed all 3 books.

Dusty is a beauty and it’s sweet of Penny to plan a post when we know she’s not feeling her best.

  14. “I am not a skunk” looks funny! Is the print version still available? I just checked three sites and it doesn’t seem to be. But maybe Google isn’t being kind?

    1. Thank you. I looked too and there is one on Amazon. but the price is insane. I will check with my publisher.

  15. A dear friend and colleague shared a post-it for me some 20+years ago that says, “no, that just won’t work for me” since I too always said yes and then had to come up with an excuse at the last minute. I still have it on my bulletin board. I don’t always adhere to it, but I’m better and looking at that reminder always makes me smile.

  16. Saying no is difficult sometimes, but once when mama was saying yes to everyone’s request and more, she called a woman asking for a lecture to say no, as mama had no time, and the woman said, oh, I’m so glad because I have to say no about a request and you have given the courage to do it! After that, no was easier. Sometimes the person asking is thrilled to hear a NO. With ‘thank you, anyway’ attached….
