Friendly Fill-Ins Week 81

Hi everyone! Time for the Friendly Fill-Ins Week 81. Don’t forget to add your link at McGuffy’s Reader, you can also answer in the comment section. Thank you to all who participate.

1. I start to decorate for Christmas/Hanukkah __________________________.

2. I prefer a ____________________ Christmas tree because ____________________.

3. The best thing about the holidays is                                              .

4. The worst thing about the holidays is  ______________.
My answers:
1. I start to decorate for Christmas/Hanukkah the Saturday after Thanksgiving. I would start Friday, but I go shopping instead.
2. I prefer a fake Christmas tree because it doesn’t lose needles or need to be watered. Plus I worry about the cats drinking water from real ones because I know they are sprayed with pesticides.
3. The best thing about the holidays is Christmas music on the radio and everywhere you go.
4 The worst thing about the holidays is the absence of those we have lost. It seems more noticeable on holidays.
We are joining Feline Friday currently hosted by Comedy Plus.
Emmy enjoyed her first Thanksgiving. I think the tryptophan from the turkey made her sleepy ( she only had a little).
Don’t forget to enter our giveaways. The mug contest winner will be announced Saturday and the winner of Black Cats Tell All will be announced Sunday. The other book giveaway was directly from the author and I think the rafflecopter ends Monday.

  1. I really like your answer to 3 and 4. We’re going to get a real try this year because we don’t always put one up and decorate it.

  2. It’s so lovely that Emmy has a home now!

Good luck with your shopping today.

You are right about missing those we love this time of year.

    Happy Friday!

  3. Those are some great answers. Always fun to get started on Christmas. Especially the music. Emmy glad you had a good first Thanksgiving. Have a super Friday.

  4. You are brave to shop on this Friday! #2 – mom has allergies, can’t handle the scents of most things, so she definitely wouldn’t be having a real tree.

  5. Oh, I used to adore Christmas music but now the classics get stuck in my head at night to the point I avoid listening at all costs. Sad, no? Oh, well. I do like some of the rock Christmas albums still. It’s easier to avoid than one might think since I abhor shopping. ~wink~ Be well!

  6. What fantastic, festive fill-ins! I am putting up the Christmas tree and decorations today. I have never been a fan of shopping, or crowds, so I hole up in my house on Black Friday. I have Christmas music blaring right now and am getting started on the decorations. Happy Friday, and Merry Christmas season!

  7. You’re right about missing loved ones more on the holidays. I do the same.

Emmy is adorable. She’s enjoying her first Thanksgiving very well.

Have a purrfect Feline Friday. My best to your peeps. ♥

  8. When people ask about our decorations, I usually only half tell the truth. I tell people that I don’t decorate because Bear would re-decorate – but the real issue for me is the water. I’d be scared he’d drink the tree water and get sick. I’ve found that most people don’t understand my fear – so I just stopped admitting to it.

  9. So happy Emmy enjoyed her first THanksgiving – Teddy will get his first taste of turkey tonight with the leftovers we brought back from the mountains. We are so very thankful to know all of you!

    Hugs, Teddy and Mom too

  10. It’s okay Emmy, the tryptophan knocked me out for an hour last night! My mom and I were just talking about #4 today. She was talking about when she lost her mom over 50 years ago and how incredibly hard that first Christmas was after she passed.

  11. I agree. The hole our loved ones leave behind with their passing seems so much bigger at holiday time than at other times during the year.

What a good point about the Christmas tree water! I had never thought about that. It probably would be very bad for the pets to drink it. Another point in favor of artificial trees. Plus, ideally, one doesn’t have to go buy a new fake tree every year. One can keep using the same one for at least a few years. 🙂

What is your favorite Christmas song? My favorite is “Oiche Chiun”. Hopefully, I spelled that correctly. It is Enya’s version of “Silent Night”. It is the most peaceful song I’ve ever heard.

    Have a blessed weekend, Ellen!

    1. I will have to look on you tube for that song. I love Sarah Mclaughlin’s version of So This is Christmas. I hope you have a blessed weekend and that you get some good news on Monday. XO

  12. While real Christmas trees use herbicides, artificial trees contain polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic and lead. Real trees can be full of bugs though. Ick! Christmas music is cool although some tend to be overplayed. I try to avoid those when I do my set at the Christmas Eve pawty George the Duck hosts.

  13. 1. I start to decorate for Christmas/Hanukkah at the beginning of December or as close to that as I have time for.

    2. I prefer an artificial Christmas tree because I like trees not to be ‘sacrificed’…and the newer ‘fake’ trees are quite realistic. And you can use them over and over. Sometimes I just put a big bag over them decorations and all and store it ready to go! MOL! But beware, kitties like to play in fake trees as much as in real ones, I know it too well…
    3. The best thing about the holidays is all the friendly greeting cards, the special music, and good food (too much good food, MOL!) And extra tiem with friends…and getting to go to church to celebrate the real meaning on this time of the year. When I was not working I often had church members over who did not have family to celebrate with:) .
    4. The worst thing about the holidays is having to clean it all up later and then it is SO bare!

    1. Thank you for your answers , I enjoyed them. I love an artificial tree too. I take the ornaments off for storage, but I leave it assembled and covered in the attic. Phoebe was the only one who ever climbed the tree when we had a regular 6 foot, not we have a skinny tree.
