Happy Friday everyone! Today is O day on the a-z blogging challenge.
I decided to go with Oscar for the O. I am sure many of you have already heard of Oscar the cat that can sense when someone is going to die. I know that sounds creepy and I will admit that I was never interested in reading the book about him for fear it would be too sad. Well, I decided that I had to read it if I was going to write about it. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it wasn’t sad.
Lucy gives it 2 paws up-
It was written by a Dr.Dosa, he works at the Alzheimer’s facility where Oscar resides. Back in 2006 , a worker noticed that Oscar would stay with patients that were about to die. He wasn’t correct every time, but most of the time. I got my book from the library, but it is available at Amazon:
I did a little research and found an article from last year that said Oscar is still living there and has predicted 50 deaths since he arrived. He provides comfort to the grieving families in many cases.
I most go help Sammy get ready for his Cat Scouts trip to Paris tomorrow.
I’ve heard about cats being able to do this, but I haven’t read this book. It’s another to add to my list.

I am sure you will enjoy it, you can probably get it at the library.
I’d read about Oscar before but I hadn’t heard of the book. Aren’t cats incredible creatures?
Cats are amazing, many of mine know when I am sick and stay near me.
I’m not superstitious, but I believe animals can sense when someone is going to die. I’m just wondering if everybody knows about Oscar’s ‘behavior’, I’d be freaking out when Oscar came to my room. Ok, I get, it’s an Alzheimer facility, but that doesn’t automatically mean that nobody understands anything.
I agree , that would freak me out if I were a patient. I think the people he visits are so close to death that many are already in a deep sleep.
Honestly, that’s a talent I don’t think I’d want to have but I do hope to go to nursing homes someday to visit with the residents!
Iam sure you will bring much happiness to nursing home residents.
A book to add to my growing collection on my bedside 🙂
I am sure you will enjoy it.
Oscar has special powers…..we are so super sensitive to EVERYTHING but most especially human “vibes” I think……I know when Mom’s sick – I know when she needs me most – and I’m sure Oscar knows when someone is about to go to the Bridge so tries to be comforting. What a special boy he must be!!!!!
Hugs, Sammy
Kitties are very special. I am sure you take great care of your Mom.
I’ve read that book over and over! The comfort that Oscar gives the humans who’s loved one has passed, is remarkable. They feel that Oscar was holding a vigil for the soul of the departed person, and they are grateful to the cat. Our society has a problem with death, and here is Oscar, making a bridge between living and dying. Amazing!
I am sure I will be reading it more than once too- he is amazing.
I loved that book! Cats are naturally intuitive but Oscar has it all in hs nose.
He sure does 🙂
Whoa! TW predicted the death of a family friend years ago. She had a nightmare that he passed and the next morning his daughter knocked on their door to tell them her Dad had suddenly died that morning. It really freaked TW out.
THat would freak me out too, I am sorry your Mom lost her friend.
Mom said she has that book and really enjoyed it. You’re right it’s not sad at all.
I don’t like books that make me sad, even though this deals with death, it was written in a nice way .
Oscar is a special cat to know who needs his company before they leave for the Bridge.
He sure is special, all cats are though each in their own way.
We’ve heard about Oscar too, an amazing dude!
Yes, he is 🙂
OH YES IT IS FRIDAY
HAPPY WEEKEND
HUGS MADI YOUR BFFF
Happy weekend to you too Madi 🙂
We loved that book. Oscar is one amazing cat.
He sure is 🙂
I’ve heard of Oscar too, but like you, I thought it would be far too depressing to read about. On the other hand, I’m sure it would be a great comfort to have a purring kitty keeping you company as you made that journey.
That is how I would want to leave this earth.
I’ve read that book about Oscar, and it is wonderful. What an amazing and empathetic kitty he is!
I read online he is up to about 50 correct, they should write another book about him with more of those stories.
Oscar is one special kitty.
Yes, he is. You are all special though in your own unique ways.
I’d heard about Oscar and think he’s incredible providing comfort to people as they cross to the other side… Great post!
Thank you 🙂
We sometimes get kitties coming to visit their peeps, where I work in a nursing home, but there is no resident kitty. Some facilities here do have them though.
We think it would be great, because so many peeps had kitties of their own in the past.
Oscar is a caring cat, because many peeps are leery of what to do/say to peeps who are in their last moments on earth. Oscar gives them of himself, so touching.
I wish more facilities had kitties- and would allow people to have their kitties. I think it would be so helpful to them mentally.
