Myrrh, Frankincense and Gold

Happy Tuesday everyone! Today is medical day and I want to let you know something I just learned last week that is actually very fitting for Christmas.

I brought Polar Bear to the low cost clinic last week. He is always a little snuffy and I was told it was Feline Herpes and would always be in his system. He seemed more congested than usual and his eyes very runny too so I figured he needed a antibiotic which he did get ( shot form, I could never pill this wild guy).Β During the exam, he got very scared and fought the vet and tech off from trying to restrain him. We had to give up trying to get blood work until after the holidays. He got himself so upset that he could barely breath and had to keep his mouth wide open trying to get air.

The vet put a drop of myrrh on his nose and that really seemed to help. I like that this vet integrates things like that with regular medicine. As many of you know, the 3 Kings brought the baby Jesus gold, frankincense and myrrh. I decided to look up the uses for pets and this is the best info. that I found: http://www.vetinheights.com/essential-oils-for-dog-and-cat-owners-part-2/. Apparently, it is a good anti-inflammatory and according to this, some frankincense would have been good to help him breath too. Of couse, some gold would have come in handy to pay the bill πŸ™‚

He seems much better as the antibiotic has kicked in. He is also eating better now that he can probably smell the food. Have a great day everyone! I need to start cleaning for guests tomorrow. I really need to get a sign that says not resonsible forblack clothes worn in this house.

I love this photo of Joanie:003Have a great day everyone!

  4. So Polar Bear is stuffy….um….Kali is too. Mom can ask the vet about the stuffiness Ellen but whenever she get to the vets with Kali….she quits wheezing and breathes great. Mom is getting Myrrh essestial oil for Christmas…one of my gifts to her and she can have us breathe in the myrrh.

    1. That is odd that Kali is fine at the vet. That usually happens, but Polar Bear was pretty sick so he was still stuffy there. That is great that you are giving your Mom myrrh, I just learned about it and had no idea you could easily get it.

  5. I agree that it’s pretty nifty that the vet tries different things! I never understood why my ferals would come to the food then not eat it, until I learned that if they cannot smell, then they won’t eat. Well, except Patty O’Malley who will eat day and night, no matter what! Glad Polar Bear is better; it’s always hard when our kitties aren’t feeling up to snuff…pun intended!

  6. Good info. I didn’t know that about myrrh. I once went into respiratory distress at the vet and ever since then I’ve had asthma. They almost killed. me. Glad it helped your guy.

  7. Good to know that about myrrh. Oh sweet Polar Bear hope you keep feeling better and better quickly. Merry Catmas & Merry Christmas to you all!

  8. Hope Polar Bear is better today……it’s good that some vets employ holistic type treatments with “heavier” treatments when needed…..Joanie looks ADORABLE in her skirt!!! HAPPY HOLIDAYS from us to all of you.

    Love Sammy and Mom Pam

    1. Thank you πŸ™‚ Polar Bear is doing better. Happy Holidays to you and your family too- lots of love too XO

  9. That is really great info. Ralphie had kitty herpes when I adopted him too and gets stuffies too. I will have to get some to have on hand also. Thanks for sharing!
