Friendly Fill-Ins Week 197

Time for the Friendly Fill-Ins. I came up with the first two sentences and my co-host, Lorianne of Four-Legged Furballs came up with the second two. If you didn’t do a post for them, you can also answer in the comment section. Thank you to all who participate. Don’t forget to add your link ( see below) to the hop so everyone can visit you.

1. I know spring is almost here when ___________________.

2. I find ____________________confusing.

3. I have a strong opinion on _________.
4. _________ is the strangest thing I have ever eaten.
My answers:
1. I know spring is almost here when the pussy willows open up. Not quite there yet, but here are some from last year.
2. I find monetizing my blog confusing. I have yet to do it. I don’t understand stats, algorithms, etc.
3. I have a strong opinion on anything to do with cats. I am against declawing, I believe all cats should be spayed/neutered as young as possible. And I think anyone who abuses them should be jailed.
4.Queen Anne’s Lace is the strangest thing I have ever eaten. A few years ago, I decided to research foraging local plants and discovered they are edible. Now every year I batter some up and fry them. They are tasty, they have a hint of lemon in their flavor.
We are also joining Create With Joy’s Friendship Friday and Feline Friday currently hosted by Comedy Plus.

Next Monday is Dr. Seuss Day. We will be having a giveaway to celebrate. Here are some photos from previous years.

  1. Awww, your angels sure knew how to wear those Cat in the Hat hats!

    1. I know spring is almost here when I hear the birds singing that were gone for the winter. I heard a robin today, and we just had a snow storm…and yesterday I heard some Sandhill cranes. Way too early!
    2. I find moist technology confusing.
    3. I have a strong opinion on religion and politics, but I mostly keep them to myself, because I do not like controversy and mostly my opinions are not the same as most…
    4. I have not, but when I was a teen I worked in a store and we used to sell chocolate covered insects of various species… is the strangest thing I have ever seen being eaten. No Thanks!

    1. Thank you 🙂 And thank you for these great fill-in answers. Sounds like the robin is a bit too early. I am the same with technology. I try to avoid those topics as well. Ick on chocolate covered insects, I like my chocolate plain. XO

  2. Delightful Dr Seuss pictures. Mrs H and love the shot of the willow, and initially thought that it was a row of knitted cat’s lined up until we zoomed in and saw the willow.

  3. Lovely pics!

Mum says she doesn’t understand algorithms either but that hasn’t stopped her monetizing her our blogs. Not that she’s earned anything from it though.02221

  4. If you’re really interested in monetizing, I would look around Facebook for groups to join (like Pet Blogging for Love and Money started by Carol Bryant and Maggie Marton – two people who used to work for BlogPaws). Even going to BlogPaws site, you might be able to find stuff. Yeah, I don’t think they are updating it – so the information might be out-of-date – but most of the stuff is still there. There’s a TON of information on the web these days – you probably can find the answers via search. A lot of the stuff I’ve done on my blog, I could only do because someone else had put the information out there. I just searched “how to get started monetizing your blog” on Google and there’s a wealth of information. I’m in the same situation with you. But any time I try to learn all the technical side of blogging (SEO, monetization, etc), my brain just shuts off and I get bored after the first paragraph. Thus, I haven’t done any of it. Am I missing out on anything? Honestly? Probably not much. With the number of views I get in Google Analytics, I’d be lucky to make a few cents a month.

  5. Count us in on your #3 fill-in! Didn’t realize queen anne’s lace was edible but it sounds intriguing – I don’t see much of it around our yard but I’m sure out in the country further I would. We love the photos of your crew in their Dr. Seuss hats – Mom is still trying to get me to cooperate with my Dr. Seuss hat but so far – even if I’m asleep – I KNOW when she’s sneaking around with that hat! HAHAHA

    Hugs, Teddy and Mom too

  6. It’s so nice to see some of your Angels in their Dr. Suess hats from past posts.♥
I so agree with you on #3. Gosh, I had no idea you could eat Queen Anne’s Lace. We had a bunch of it all over the Tiny Ten when we lived in Missouri.
    Here are my Fill-Ins…
    1. I know spring is almost here when… it feels like spring is here all winter where I live. Southwest Florida should have two seasons~Hot & humid and Not so hot & humid.
    2. I find coding for my WordPress theme confusing.
    3. I have a strong opinion about what I see as mobile phone etiquette.
    3. I am not into strange foods so I am not out there trying them. At one time mush was the strangest thing I had ever eaten and I love it now. The strangest thing I have eaten would have to be creamed herring and I gag just thinking about it.
    Thank you, Ellen!

    1. Thank you 🙂 And thank you for these great fill-in answers. I don’t think I would just like 2 seasons. Coding is impossible. Ick on the mush and herring. Have a nice weekend. XO

  7. Anyone who knows Mom knows that violets, little wild violets are mom’s most fave flower. She loves them. She read in a women’s magazine ears ago that adding them to salads (mom is not a salad eater… doesn’t care for them) was a tasty idea and that they were good to eat.

Much as mom loves them with all her heart she did go out and picked one and ate it. It really was good. She said she apologized to the violets and never ate another.

  8. Meowser Ms. Ellen thank you for hosting this blog hop. Mom says it’s too warm here to grow Queen Ann’s Lace, but we have purslane is tasty.

  9. Adorable photos! I know spring is almost here when I see my first robin. Hopefully they will be returning soon.

  10. I agree with you on cats. Now you can buy cat claw caps and have them applied at the vet. Our vet suggested it and I’ve read pros and cons about it. Any opinions?

  11. Aw on all the angels. So precious.

I love all your answers. Hubby searches for different plants to eat too. He so enjoys it.

Thank you for co-hosting the Friendly Fill-ins. Great questions as always.

Thank you for joining the Feline Friday Blog Hop.

Have a purrfect Feline Friday and weekend, Ellen. Big hug to you and lots of scritches to the kitties. ♥

  12. Ack! That hat! The weirdest plant TW has ever eater was Nasturtiums which they had in the yard. Whoa! just everyone monetizes their blogs but us. I have to fire TW.

  13. ewe all rock yur catz in hatz for dr seuss !!! 🙂 N we iz sir prized mom dinna get sick frum de queen anne’s; we all wayz herd it bee toxic !!! WHOA !!!!

    🙂 ♥♥

  14. Awww… What sweet photos.

My husband recalls eating those raw plant roots as a child and that they sort of tasted like carrots. And pussy willows are so fun! My mother once took a bouquet to her Asian doctor and he called them ‘kitties in a tree’. I liked that so much I remember it over thirty years later. ~grin~ Be well!

    1. Thank you 🙂 I believe they are considered wild carrots. I actually have a print of pussywillows where each one is a small kitty- I got it from Etsy.

  15. Great fill-inn answers, miss Ellen, we’re definitely with you on no. 3. We’re going to eat violets, they’re very colourfull in a salad😸Pawkisses for a Happy Weekend🐾😽💞 Oh, and you all look so sweet with the Dr. Seuss hat on, sweet Angels💗

  16. Mom learned something new – now she has to find some Queen Anne’s lace:)

We had a warmer day today and a mild weekend coming up. Maybe we will spot some early signs of Spring here.

    Woos, Lightning and Timber

  17. I didn’t know you could eat Queen Anne’s Lace – that’s so interesting! Have you ever eaten fiddleheads? That’s a big thing around here but I’ve never tried them. My Mom used to dig up dandelion greens every spring but I was never a fan!

    1. Yes, we have, but we picked the wrong kind and they were not good. Never tried dandelions though.

  18. You all lopok so adorable. We didn’t know you ate foraged plants. Mommy’s not that adventurous. MOL Big hugs

    Luv ya’
