Hi everyone! Lots of medical updates today so I am breaking the rules and being wordy instead of wordless.
First off, thank you for the prayers for Penelope.
All went well; she didn’t even need any extractions. When I went to get her, she was hissing at the vet tech that carried her carrier out. She was quite hangry by 4 PM.
Brody had his appointment with the specialist. He had an ultrasound to confirm what she thought he had, but a blood test is also needed and it can’t be done unless the potassium is low and it wasn’t because he had his meds that morning. It is most likely hyperaldosteronism which is caused from a tumor or issue with adrenal glands. Thankfully no tumor was found, but both are irregularly shaped. For now, as long as his potassium level is OK she said to get the dental so he is scheduled for 11/17. I do think the problem was last time he was scheduled for the dental, the vet said not to give him his potassium that morning, he definitely needs it supplemented twice a day so he will get it the morning of the dental.
And last, but not least, is Rusty. I finally got his results from the echocardiogram and he has the exact same thing as his brother, HCM. The are both in the earliest stage. Most of the time, no meds are recommended, you just keep rechecking ever 9-12 months. There is a new medicine that can possibly reverse it, but it can cause liver issues. I am debating the pros and cons on that. Have any of you heard of Felycin-CA1? I am putting a link in case any of your cats have HCM and you are interested in it. Click here.
Make sure you play Friday’s fib game on Tuesday’s post. Winner will be announced on Thursday’s post.
