Thankful Thursday

We are joining Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop.

I am thankful that I had a nice visit with my cousin and her husband from Virginia yesterday. Technically, she is my mom’s first cousin.

I am also thankful I was able to catch their dog, Charlie. They had a retractable leash for him which he chewed while we were all talking. Her husband tied it back together, but it untied when I offered to take him out to pee. He did not pee, but he did flee about 1/2 mile down the road. I am thankful the 2 cars that went by slowed down. And thankful I was able to sort of catch up with him and trick him into thinking a rock was a treat so I could grab his collar. Despite that, he is a sweet dog. He stayed in the kitchen and dining room so the cats wouldn’t be scared plus he had never been with a cat, so I wasn’t taking any chances.

I am also thankful for summer vacation. I will have the girls all day. The Great One wants to make strawberry jam so we will be doing that. Typhoid Mary will most likely be building something with her cardboard stash.

I skipped the poem this week.

Here are the Friendly Fill-Ins for tomorrow. I came up with the first two and my wonderful co-host, Lorianne of Four-Legged Furballs came up with second two.

2. I always procrastinate when I am supposed to _________________________.
3. My goal of _________ is going really well.
4. If I opened a _________ shop, I would name it _________.

  1. What a darling puppy dog! I’m so glad everything turned out well when you were outside with him and he made a break for it, that rascal! Sounds like a fun time ahead with the girls! XO

    1. Thank you. 🙂 We don’t have a lot of traffic, but the cars that go by are usually fast. I will have a lot of fun with the girls. XO

  2. That sounds like an eventful time with Charlie. I am glad you were able to catch him.
Thank you so much for your card which arrived yesterday in a package from Cecilia. Ivor and I were quite overcome with all the good thoughts and prayers sent to us. It was a lovely surprise.

  3. Oh, Charlie the Cutie…those eyes….and of course he did something doggies do! HE’S NOT A CAT! If you get my drift. ..but glad you caught him, and I’m so glad he didn’t try to eat the “treat”…you never know with doggies,

  4. Well, we’re glad you managed to catch Charlie before something terrible happened. Isn’t it just like a dog to think a rock was a treat? I’m gonna go out on a limb and submit one answer to all four questions on dad’s behalf- “Let me think about it and I’ll get back to you”.

  5. 1. My preferred method of procrastination is in front of the computer.
    2. I always procrastinate when I have to make a doctor or dentist appointment.
    3. My goal of reducing carbs is going well. Not really well, but well. 🙂
    4. If I opened a book shop I would name it “Time Machine”. (think about it…they are— in their way)

If the Great One has a great recipe, I’d love to know it….

    1. Thank you for these great answers. We have been reducing carbs too and I discovered baking with almond flour. That is an excellent name, you are correct. XO

  6. All was well with the pup despite the runaway and you handled that. I am tickled for you that you get a day with The Girls. Hope Rosie settles in some place quiet and out of the way. The Fill-Ins are about procrastination which I know all too well. But my procrastinating has been less for the last year or so. Don’t know why but I am thankful. TM’s building projects will be fun 🙂

  7. Java Bean: “Ayyy, we’ve got a runner! Good job catching him!”
Lulu: “These things happen! When I was new and Mama and Dada were keeping a GPS tracker collar on me, we all went to visit their friends and were sitting out in the backyard and Dada was pretty surprised when suddenly the GPS showed I was sitting in the driveway out front. It turns out their friends had a hole in the fence they didn’t know about, and of course I found it.”
Charlee: “And you didn’t run off?”
Lulu: “No, I just wanted to sit out front and watch the world go by.”

  8. Adorable puppy ~ sweet photos ~ glad you had a good visit with your cousin ~ hugs,

  9. Charlie looks like a sweetie, but he probably gets a big charge after getting away. I’m glad it all turned out well. Good luck with those rambunctious girls when you’re watching them. They sound worse than the dog! I hope you come out of it in one piece.

  10. Glad you had a positive experience with the dog, but I don’t see you changing from cat love any time soon. 😉

  11. Charlie certainly had an adventure and led you on a merry chase!

Your mother’s first cousin is your first cousin once removed, if I’m remembering correctly.

I hope you and the girls have a great time.

  12. Aww, Charlie is adorable. Glad he was fooled by that rock treat. Mom doesn’t like retractable leashes at all, and many of them have such thin cords that it is very easy to see how he would have chewed through his.

  13. Charlie is a cutie pie. So happy you were able to catch up with him. Mom says she doesn’t blame you for skipping the poem. She had a hard time writing one. Every day with the girls sounds as if you will be busy, busy! 14. OMC…could Charlie be, dare I say it…an Old English Sheepdog?? Or is he some sort of Doodle dog? Glad you were able to capture him safely. Our Mom is always worried one of us will get out and one in particular will try chasing the local hoodlum squirrels. Traffic is too much and too fast in our hood so we can imagine how stressful it was. Strawberry jam? Yum sounds divine for a summertime activity. Have fun.
