Chalkboard Paint Projects

We are joining Comedy Plus’ Awww….Mondays and Create with Joy’s Inspire Me Monday.

I bought a can of Chalkboard spray paint at least 5 years ago, probably longer and I finally got around to using it on a few projects.

My niece got this box filled with 4 small bottles of wine for Christmas. She was going to toss the box, but offered it to me. I painted the top with chalkboard paint and added school supplies so The Great One can play school when she comes over.

These are going to be soda bottle planters. I drew cat faces on them.
Friday is checking out the tray.

I thought Elvira was going to pose because she lets me pet her, but apparently the tray was a little too much excitement and she retreated under the bed.

I have a question. Has anyone ever had a cat on the blood pressure medicine Amlodipine? The only cat we ever had take it was Angel Phoebe and it seemed to make her kidney issues worst .  Emmy was just prescribed it from her internist and I haven’t started it yet out of fear. She already has a bad heart, CKD , hyperthyroid and now a growth was felt on her liver. In many cases those are benign, but we can’t even do a biopsy because she would most likely die under anesthesia. I just want to know if anyone had a cat stay on it long term without wrecking the kidneys.

Be sure to stop by tomorrow for Penny’s post.

  1. Love the chalkboard paint project! That’s perfect and I bet The Great One loves it. Wish I knew the answer to your question but I do hope Emmy doesn’t have any problems on the medication. She has a lot of health issues and hopefully whatever she takes won’t make things worse.

    Hugs, Pam

  2. Brilliant idea using the wine box as you did! I am no help on the blood pressure medicine but in general I think blood pressure meds can be tough on kidneys for peeps. Don’t know about cats. Hope Emmy does well on the meds.

    1. Thank you. 🙂 I think they are tough on cats’ kidneys too. Right now I am not planning to give them. I emailed the vet to see if there is another option. XO

  3. I wonder if another opinion could be called for? How high did the vet say it is and what are their normal ranges…and how did she take the pressure?

    1. They took it a few times, not sure how. She said it was 250. I know she gets very scared though. XO

  4. Ooh, I’ve wanted to play with blackboard paint too…maybe I will now, that I see your project!
Poor Emmy; am purring for her.
Sorry, cannot help with the med.

  5. Ellen I love TGO’s special box. You are so clever with fun ideas the TGO and TM are lucky to have an Gaunt like you. I have never known a cat on BP meds
    Hugs Cecilia

  6. What a great use of the wine box. You’re so talented and I’m sure the great one is most pleased.

Don’t know anything about kitties and high blood pressure.

Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week, Ellen. Scritches to all the kitties. ♥

  7. Cute projects and pictures, Ellen! So sorry Emmy’s health issues; I’m not familiar with that med, sorry. XO

  8. Don’t know anything about the medicine ~ do hope Emmy will be well for a long time ~ Xo ~

  9. We love the chalkboard box !
Our huMom has been on Amlodipine for several years but that doesn’t do you and Emmy any good, so we send purrayers for you to find some answers and Emmy to feel better.

  10. That is a good idea for the box.
I take amlodipine and it did make my legs swell terribly, so the doctor had to halve the dose. I have no idea about using it for cats though.

  11. That chalkboard is super cool and Friday approved! We’ve not had any on that med either, poor Emmy, we’re sending prayers to that sweetie.

  12. Hello Ellen: I would think twice b4 stating Amlodipine! It is a very harsh medication & with Emmy’s conditions I fear something will go REALLY haywire!
I have known a few cats being put on it; but then taken off because there were problems.
Personally I was put on it & within 72 hours ended up in EMERG VERY sick from it….racing heart (some BP med it was!) My Kidneys were not working properly. I was having serious trouble breathing…..that after only 3 doses!
Altho I am Human I have as many issues as Emmy & if it could knock a 160 lb Human on her butt I fear what it would do to a Feline!

    1. Thank you. I agree with you that it is too risky. I am sorry you had a bad experience too. SHe has so many issues already. XO

  13. Yes, early on back when Norvasc (amlodipine) came out. I have not known an animal or person who has done well on that medication. I had to get the cat off of it. It tuned out to be white coast hypertension anyway.

  14. That is a cute chalkboard to play school with. You are very crafty. We are thinking of Emmy & saying prayers. It appears even our poor animals are guinea pigs for meds. I am so wary today of everything. I am glad you said you willnot give it to her. Take care sweet Emmy.
