It’s Monday! What Are YOU Reading?

Hi everyone! We are joining Comedy Plus’ Awww….Mondays and Book Date’s It’s Monday What are YOU Reading?

Sammy is posing with the book I am reading. The Plant Paradox : The Hidden Dangers in “Healthy” Foods That Cause Disease and Weight Gain by Dr. Steven Gundry.

Apparently, a lot of plants have a protein called lectin that cause a war within our bodies.  I don’t understand it enough to explain it yet, but I highly recommend this book to anyone with an autoimmune disease, I have Hypothyroid and Eczema and I hope following this diet can help these conditions. Although, I am not good at following specific diets and the beginning of this one sounds icky like eating salmon.

Have you read this or tried this diet?

Penny will be here tomorrow to dish the dirt on Rosie.

  1. I follow that but very loosely. Xena, Riley and Chia’s peeps follow it quite strictly.

We do a lot of paleo/keto friendly eating, so we are avoiding more lectins than on a regular diet.
For us the low carb plans seem to work the best, esp if we try to stay with organic foods, and no grains. Sometimes a FODMAP diet helps peeps…you can google that term.

What one needs to fix is the leaky gut and a lot of these plans help with that.

  2. Sammy did a really great pose! I have autoimmune diseases and I did read that book and some of the foods he does recommend aggravates the immune system. I’ve done a lot of research and the best protocol for autoimmune disease is the Autoimmune Protocol (AIP). Look it up on Google and you will find links to many websites of people who have recovered their health and they have lots of free info like lists of foods that are safe to eat and foods to avoid and lots of free recipes! Please forget about that book and look up The Paleo Mom on Google. She is a scientist who developed the AIP and restored her own health and has helped thousands of others. I hope this helps you and feel free to contact me if you like! Sweet Blessings, Deborah

  3. Now that’s not nice Penny. Be nice to Rosie. Remember she covered for you when you were on vacation
I’m reading Winters Maiden Book 2 by L. Starla

  4. Well, mama and papa eat salmon very often, sauteed in olive oil with a little wine added at the end or we poach it in a very simple broth of water, onion, a little white wine, salt and pepper, and then eat it with a sauce called Remoulade…mayonnaise, capers, lemon juice, a bit of grated sweet onion, a few capers and grainy mustard. Salmon is one of the best heart protectors in the food chain, as are other fatty fish. Fish should be cooked as simply as possible, not gussied up, haha. And sardines on toast with butter and a squeeze of lemon are great for healthy bones.

  5. We’ve never been good at non-fiction (or how to) books tho this sounds as if we should read it! But likely will not … if you come across a “food source” that causes swelling of feet and ankles, please let me know! It’s a constant problem for me … sigh.

  6. Haven’t heard of that diet but there are so many different diets out there it’s hard to keep up! I have hypothyroidism too but my medication keeps it “normal”……fortunately!

    Hugs, Pam

  7. Thanks for sharing this information on the book, Ellen. I like salmon but I am allergic to it, as well as a bunch of other stuff. I hope the diet helps your symptoms. Happy Monday!

  8. Diets don’t work for me. I have to have a balanced diet. For me it’s portion control and exercise. It’s working for me. I’ll have to check this book out. There are foods that you think are good, but aren’t.

Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week, Ellen. Scritches to all the kitties and a hug to you. ♥

  9. I wish I could see what everyone weighed in with here. It would vibe interesting. I only like canned salmon that I make into salmon patties.

  10. Sammy you are a cutie today. I am terrible at diets that help lose weight. I lost weight during the pandemic by cleaning the house, doing yard work and being too busy to overeat. I hope we don’t have to go back into the office full time or I’ll gain it all back – MOL!

  11. Penny dishing dirt on Rosie… that will be interesting and humorous I am thinking! I am not good at diets. I just try to keep it simple. Small portions (small plate), a protein (I love salmon), something colorful (a veggie) and teeny bit of carb. Of course I have done a lousy job of that with the stay at home and order something routine. Just now trying to get back to what works for me. I am reading The Gifts of Imperfection… Brene Brown. I think Sammy likes Mondays!

    1. I think most people have gained during COVID> I need to exercise, at least go for walks, I am so lazy. XO

      1. I think all plants have a certain amount of antinutriants along with all the good nutrients. It would be a shame to go without all that good stuff to avoid a little bad.

  13. I’m sorry you suffer these conditions. ~hugs~ Maybe your kitties can introduce you to salmon? We enjoy it in many forms, so perhaps there is a recipe you can learn to appreciate. Best wishes!

    1. Thamk you, nothing major, just minor issues. I don’t like any seafood except solid white albacore tuna and I have to be in the right mood for it. XO

  14. I Love Salmon! I would probably like this plan. I have thyroid disease too. Plus I have to watch sodium with my VP Shunt. It is interesting to hear this. I appreciate the info. Have a great week and you all take care.

  15. I am going to have to look for that book. I have a bunch of autoimmune disorders (Thyroid, Vitiligo, among others) as does my son. We are doing gluten free and Nightshade free right now. More information would be wonderful thanks for telling us about it Ellen, you ROCK! And can’t wait for tomorrow!
