I recently finished reading Nobody Will Tell You This But Me by Bess Kalb. It is written by a granddaughter in her dead grandmother’s words. I was immediately pulled into their story because it reminded me of the closeness between my niece and her her grandmother ( my mom). The granddaughter is around the same age as my niece ( 32) and got married in 2013, the same year as my niece.
I was turned off by one part. The grandmother, named Bobby kept telling Bess her to get rid of her cat. I wanted to hate the grandmother for that, but I couldn’t. I know she was misinformed and only had the best interest of her future great grandchild in mind. Plus Bess ignored her wishes as far as kitty was concerned. The book is a nice mix of memoir and telling of the family’s history along with references to many, many voicemails the grandmother left her over the years. I felt bad that the granddaughter didn’t have a child until after her grandma had passed. I know from seeing my mom with her two great granddaughters that there is nothing so special as enjoying your grandchild’s children.
Joanie hopes she is awww.. worthy for today.
Penny will be here with another tip tomorrow.
