A-Z Blogging Challenge: B

Hi everyone! Penny is here today with tips, but not Penny’s tips. These are tips to keep your cat healthy and save money. Today we are focusing on the letter B.

B is for brushing. If you brush your cat’s teeth at least 3 times a week, you can prevent dental issues. This is better for your cat’s health and your wallet because dentals at the vet and extractions are costly.

I am guilty of not doing this, but I am going to try. I know already some cats like KaTwo and Polar Bear won’t let me, but I will try on Joanie and Sammy. As you can see from the photo, Penny is a good candidate too. Every time my cats go for a dental, they come home with a toothbrush and a sample of toothpaste. I found a great website that gives instructions. You don’t even need a kit, you can dilute hydrogen peroxide in water ( 25% peroxide to 75% water) , dip a cloth in it and rub it on your cat’s teeth. For more information, click here.

Unfortunately, some cats are more prone than others to plaque buildup so may still require dentals, but hopefully, less often.

Brushing your cat’s fur at least once a week is also a good idea. The more you brush, the less they ingest which means fewer furballs.

  1. I never brushed my cats’ teeth but I don’t think anyone did back in the 70’s. MOL! We have learned so much about our pet’s dental care and how important that it is for overall health. Thanks for spreading the word to all cat parents too!

  2. Huh, thanks for the tips on taking care of your cat. When I had a cat I never did any of that. It was a Siamese with short hair but he did have bad breath at times. I liked your B post.

  3. I used to be diligent with teeth brushing for the kitties, and my sister was always amazed that they let me. Simba and Toki were the best for letting me, they even purred, MOL! Now I am less diligent and don’t do it often enough…sigh…but I do try to when I think of it…bad kitty mom, MOL!
I try to brush the pups’ teeth too. MJF always got regular sessions and his first dental was when he broke a tooth in his thirteenth year.

I keep a brush handy to brush the furry ones whenever they come to vist me in the bathroom…why DO they do that anyways?? MOL!

  4. I really enjoy having my teefs brushed….of course is nuffin to do with the CHICKEN flavoured toofpaste, hehe

  5. Brushing is very important. Our Little Bit would allow hubby to brush her teeth and she didn’t have issues with her teeth or gums. So very important.

Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday, Penny. My best to your wonderful mom. β™₯

  6. We have some enzyme stuff in a tube, that I let the cats lick; it’s supposed to be good for their mouths and teeth. We’ve never been successful with brushing their teeth. I’m betting that The PO’M would let me; he’ll allow me to do almost anything to him!

  7. Dad tried brushing here too. No one allowed it and there were varying degrees of disapproval from a hide to a hiss-claw. We like Bacon for B Better MOL

  8. This is a good reminder! One of our cats would never allow this but I might be able to get away with it with the younger one. Maybe. We can barely cut her nails. I guess I’ll find out! LOL

    • I am glad the package arrived πŸ™‚ I bet my bill was a lot more money which technically included the cost of the toothbrush. XO

  10. Great tips for pet owners! I remember when our kids were small, using a washing cloth to gently clean their gums helped to keep their baby teeth healthy when they finally pushed through. It’s neat how animals need similar care.

  11. I won’t allow Granny nor Grandpaw to brush my teeth, they should have start when I was a little baby, then I would have allowed it, but when it is necessary, I guess I have no other choise as Granny can be very clear of that πŸ˜€ Extra Pawkisses for a Brightful Smile???
