Remember Me Thursday

HI everyone! Today is a very special day, Remember Me Thursday. Now in the sixth year, it is a day to remember all those pets in shelters. Our friends at Lola The Rescued Cat and Three Chatty Cats are hosting the blog hop.

Three of my current kitties came from shelters, everyone else was given to me or just showed up.

Back in 2010, I went to adopt Sammy not knowing he had a sibling. The minute i saw her, I had to adopt her too. It still bothers me that their 3rd sibling had already been adopted. They had been together for almost 5 years at that point and it breaks my heart to see families separated ( human and fur).

My KaChoo went to the Rainbow Bridge in 2010 and I wanted another mitted tabby so I searched Petfinder and found Little Tiger in 2012. I renamed her KaTwo. I know why she was at the shelter for 2 years, because she has feline hyperesthesia. She can seem a bit scary when she is having a fit, chasing her tail, but most of the time, she is very sweet and loving.

My Angel Snowball also came from the same shelter. I saw her in 2012 and kept checking on her and was finally able to adopt her in 2013. Sadly, she had congestive heart failure and left us last year. She was from a hoarding situation and not into people, but she loved her Phoebe.

We are joining Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop I am thankful for all the kitties I just wrote about and all that I have been blessed with.

Here is my poem for Sammy’s Poetry Day to go with this photo:

In this photo we see an older couple,
perhaps their bodies are no longer supple.
If you ask him what he sees, his eyes will open wide
and he will tell you that is his young bride.
If you ask her about her mate
she’ll tell you from day one she knew it was fate.
Here are the Friendly Fill-Ins for tomorrow. Mom came up with the first two and our co-host, Lorianne of Four-Legged Furballs came up with second two.

  1. I love learning more about your kitties. I didn’t know KaTwo’s story. All your kitties are so lucky to be with you and your hubby, and you’re so kind to take in kitties like Brody, Emmy, and Trouble. I really love that picture of Phoebe and Snowball.

    Lucky Laila and her mom!

    The poem is very sweet.

  2. What great adoption stories…they were and are so lucky that YOU found them and gave them a forever. We also absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE your poem today. Especially the line about him looking at her and seeing his bride – years may go by but true love grows and gets stronger – I see that in this couple – and it’s such a HAPPY photo! Thanks for being part of Angel Sammy’s Thursday poetry fun!

    Hugs, Pam and Teddy too

  3. We sure like hearing your stories on your adoptions. Lucky kitties that get to come to your house. The rescue and adoption are so important. I am involved at the moment with catching a whole bunch of feral cats and I am actually making friends with one of them. They come here for a week and then I take them back to their group. I feel like the older feral cats are much happier where they lived their lives.

  4. That is a nice poem. It made me think of David and how he calls me his “child bride”. πŸ™‚

Thanks for sharing about the kitties. I am glad that they found you and a loving home.

    Congratulations, Laila!

Have a blessed day, all of you out there. πŸ™‚

  5. These are heartwarming stories. Thanks for sharing them. All our kitties have been rescues. We may not make a huge dent when we adopt from a shelter, but we make a huge difference in the adopted kitty’s life.

  6. I loved reading about your rescuers and the cats’ stories. Everyone knows how I came to be with mom. And I gave an abundance of loves right there the first second I met her, to ensure she took me home.

I love your mom’s poem. One of the best ones and the picture is endearing, isn’t it?

    1. A needed action right away is best in every way. Don’t wait.
    2. The best time of day is Morning,
    3. Mom answered here: Parties never have been, and never will be her strong suit.
    4. It’s all fun and games until the consequences roll around.

  7. Aww, I know how you love your kitties. What’s not to love. Giving them a forever home and loving them is the very best thing ever.

Love your poem. That’s me and hubby.

I’m all ready for Friendly Fill-ins.

Have a purrfect Remember me Thursday. β™₯

  8. the ones that just “show up” matter too. My Angel Bobo “just showed up” during a blizzard……..Cody was adopted from a rescue that was at Petco…those ones that just “show up” are beyond important because many of them don’t even make it into a shelter and die on the streets.

  9. I come from a breeder. A nice breeder. My sister Loustiquette was not from a shelter. In fact none of Natacha’s pet have been from a shelter.
But it’s so sad to know that some pet die without a familly. So sad.
I know that I’m very lucky.

  11. The stories of your furbabies’ adoptions are just too sweet. Of the 7 furbabies at my house, the only one actually adopted from a shelter/rescue is Eddy. I adopted her a couple months after my Rosie passed away, when I wanted to honor Rosie by giving a home to another special needs kitty like her. All of the other furbabies in the family just sort of, well, appeared. I know that I’ll adopt more furbabies from shelters and rescues in the future, though, and I always pray that all homeless animals will find a loving home.

Your poem is so beautiful. You really managed to put into words the sentiments that the couple in the photo probably indeed feel.

I can’t wait to see your fill-ins tomorrow! Oh, and a huge congratulations to Laila for winning fantastic Prancie’s Prayer!

  12. When Mommy was at the vet today, she found out they have two grey kittens for adoption. Dad saw about it on Facebook yesterday, but didn’t tell her. They are sister and brother, and after losing Fiona, Mom would sure love to bring them home, but… You are such good pet parents and having adopted many kitties who probably would never have gotten forever homes. Thank you! XOCK, angel Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, Cooper Murphy and Sawyer

  13. How lucky your kitties are to have you! I know, we also couldn’t bear to separate Ollie and his brother Baggy, both of whom were brought back to the shelter twice. We don’t care how rambunctious they are! Best Purrs from Mr. Jack and the Chirpies

  14. While Sam didn’t come from a shelter, when we adopted her we just had to take her sister Katie too! Sadly, Katie died at only 8 years old of cancer. We feel blessed that Sam has been so much healthier and is still with us.

    That poem was beautiful!!
