It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

Hi everyone! Today we are joining Book Date’sΒ  It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? Blog Hop and Comedy Plus’ Awww….Mondays Blog Hop.

I hope no one is offended by the title of this book, but it is a riot. The Joy of Leaving Your Sh*t All Over the Place by Jennifer McCartney is an anti declutter book. I am always so obsessed with organizing and decluttering that I thought itΒ  would be fun to try the opposite and it was. After reading it I am not as eager as I was to declutter. She has some great points , for example, all the decluttering books tell you to get rid of your books and switch to e-books. How can you judge a person , if they don’t have any books? She also reminds us that our clothes don’t have feelings so they won’t feel bad if we leave them on the floor. I think I will pick my clothes up for fear of a kitty peeing on them, but I am keeping my books πŸ™‚

  1. Yeah, really! What kind of weirdo thinks we should get rid of our *real* books? πŸ™‚
Kitty pee is a very good reason to pick stuff up. But, some kitties are so good at it, they can still pee on it even if it is up!

    1. SOme people think everything should be on the computer like books, music, etc. I am old fashioned πŸ™‚

  2. The only books my human ever gets rid of are tech manuals that are way out of date, like books about html coding from 2005. Everything else stays!

  3. We keep our books. We do have a ton of them on Kindle though. Many years ago, we had a utility building that was stolen. That building was our personal library. We are not sure how many books there were in there, but a rough guess is in the neighborhood of 7,000. Suzanne had over 200 cookbooks in there. Most of those were the kinds printed by local churches, etc., as fundraisers.

    1. That is awful that your utility building was stolen. I have some Kindle books too, but I prefer a book in my hands.

  4. Momma gets most of her books from the library. The ones she buys, she always keeps and that gets a bit much. It’s cheaper and fewer book shelves are required by using the library πŸ™‚

    1. I get a lot of books from the library too- otherwise, I wouldn’t be able to afford to read as much as I do.

  5. LOL I love the title. I have clutta. A friend of ours years and years ago once told us that she ‘enjoyed her clutta’ and it always stuck to me. heh I do like to organize, though. But never giveaway the books! I’m the same on clothes. If they hit the floor…someone will piddle on em.

    1. I guess our cats are good for keeping us organized with our clothes πŸ™‚ Clutta πŸ™‚ I like that.

  6. Now that looks like Γ„iti’s sort of book. Declutter – pΓΆh – no fun in that. And books yes, books are special. Your books tell the story of your life.

  7. Mom tries to keep her books to 4 book shelves – she rents so if she has to move, she has to pack them all. She’s always said if she owned a home, it would be filled with books because she hates to get rid of them! She also says when she walks into a house devoid of books, she feels very unwanted and uncomfortable.

    1. I have always wanted to turn the spare bedroom into a library, but I don’t think it will ever happen.

  8. I try to only get eBooks but I do end up with a collection of print which I donate when I am done reading

  9. I love the title of the book! I have to limit the number of print books I get only because I’ve run out of shelf space. I couldn’t imagine my house not cluttered with books. Sometimes de-cluttered spaces look so stark to me. Come see what my week was like here. Happy reading!

  10. This book sounds great, and the title is quite honesty very catchy. I tend to collect mass amounts of books and art supplies, which make up a large portion of my clutter. I must say, though, that my books are pretty much the one thing that I will never try to pare down. While I do have some e-books, I’d say that pretty much 99% of my reading is done with physical books, because that is my favorite way to read. I have no problem lining walls with bookshelves, if that’s what it takes to keep them all organized. And I’m pretty good about not leaving clothes lying around, for the same reason as you. After all, my boy Evan doesn’t use a litter box and is instead towel trained, so any cloth left lying around could very well be considered fair game. Thanks for sharing this with us, Ellen!

    1. I have some e-books too, but like you, I prefer to hold an actual book. Our cats help us keep our clothes tidy at least πŸ™‚

  11. What a great name for a book. You’re adorable too. A huge Awww.

Have a purrfect Awww Monday. My best to your mom. ☺

  12. That book sounds fun!
Yesterday, I finished reading book #6 (In the Nick of Time) in Robin Chamber’s Myrddin’s Heir series – loved it! The only issue I see is that there are no cats. I suspect In the Nick of Time could stand alone, I’ve read the previous 5 and loved each and every one…. Who wouldn’t love a series where a powerful boy-wizard strives to bring peace and justice to the world? In this episode, Gordon and Friends focus on The Consortium, which is a group of powerful witches and warlocks who serve ‘the dark side’. During the power struggle, there is some violence, but nothing worse than we see on our evening news. (Unfortunately, that doesn’t say much for our society, so it would be quite wonderful if Gordon and Friends set the real world right.)
I am particularly fond of the underlying philosophy Mr. Chambers uses as he creates each episode: Three Obligations of Wisdom are Love Learning; Respect Difference; Protect Your Planet. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if everyone adopted those ideals?

Mr. M, Purrseidon & I continue to work on Me-YEOW! and are nearly done with the rough draft.

    1. It amazes me that you have time to read with your writing and blogging -very impressive. That does sound like a great series despite the lack of cat.

  13. It’s a question of balance! Neat is nice, but comfortable is needed too. I was so happy to have finally had time to finish all the mending, so that cleared up one space. The trick is making sure nothing gets placed on that chair, not even for a “I’ll move this later…” excuse.

  14. I love having books in the house. I have various collections going. I did do a purge earlier this year of books though and donated of 7 giant bag fulls! Right now I am reading a book by a fellow blogger – Miss Pam! πŸ™‚

  15. Love the title and yes, you HAVE to have books, but you can sell anything…
    Wonderful post.
I wouldn’t pee on mama’s clothes but I did pee in the shower today and no one is happy but it seems THEY are taking off for a week and leaving me with a WONDERFUL anthro, Mya’s mama, whom I can wrapped around my paw. Heh, heh.

    1. I am sorry your folks are abandoning you, but at least you have a good sitter. I don’t mind when Sammy pees in the tub, it is easy to clean πŸ™‚

  19. MOL Sounds lik an innerestin’ book. We read an article da other day ’bout how allergies was takin’ over in our new ‘cleaner minded’ state. It was ’bout how thumb suckers (kids) had fewer allergies than those who didn’t and da correlation tween how kids used to be raised and how peeps didn’t freak out as much over dirt and da way peeps are now. MOL

PeeEss: Mommy was a thumb sucker. MOL

    Luv ya’

    Dezi and Raena

    1. My folks were not like that- I was exposed to plenty of dust πŸ™‚ XO

  20. I’m a minimalist trapped in a cluttered-person’s body. That said, I have lots of books I haven’t read in some time. I feel guilty that people who actually make time to read could be reading them.

    1. I am sure someday you will have time to read so you might as well hold onto them πŸ™‚

  21. I don’t know…I still don’t want my clothes all over the floor. It has nothing to do with whether they have feelings or not. πŸ™‚

  22. Our mommy decluttered and actually donated a lot of her books. She keeps her favorites though and would never get rid of those!

  23. HA! Sounds like a clever book………..and I’m with you – I’ll hang onto my “real” books until the bitter end………I love my library here at home – the smell and feel of real books…..ebooks are handy but I’m just old-fashioned enough to enjoy turning an ACTUAL page instead of a virtual one!

    Hugs, Pam
