It’s Monday ! What Are You Reading?

HI everyone! We are joining The Book Date’s It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? Blog Hop. Several weeks ago, I won A Cat Taught Me That by Charlotte Gerber from a giveaway on Melissa’s Mochas, Mysteries and Meows.

It is a cute little book ( 43 pages) with lessons the author has learned from cats throughout her life. Her cat Louie has tips in the book too. They have a blog called Awesome Louie and I was very sad when I just went to check it out and saw the post that he went to The Rainbow Bridge on May 20th. Click here to visit. DSCF1449 (2)I had Prancie pose with the book because Louie was a ginger cat too.

I also just finished a great memoir called Dimestore: A Writer’s Life by Lee Smith. I am embarrassed to write that I had never heard of her before this book came out. I love memoirs though so I gave it a chance and I am glad that I did. Her memoir tells an honest account of growing up in a coal mining town in Appalachia. Her father owned the dime store and also suffered from severe depression. It is so much more than an account of her life though, I love how she explains the writing process and how even when writing fiction an author uses his or her life for ideas.

I am hoping the photo of Prancie is Awww… worthy for Comedy Plus’ Awww… Mondays Blog Hop.

I hope everyone has a nice Memorial Day and takes time to remember those that lost their lives for our freedom.

  1. Happy Monday and we hope you all have a nice, quit Memorial Day. We will be. Thanks for the book info as well – if I ever give Mom a chance to read again (!!) she has a lot to catch up on.

    Love, Sammy

    1. I hope your Mom gets to enjoy these books. I also hope you had a nice Memorial Day with your Mom and Dad. XO

  2. Prancie is most definitely Awww . . . worthy! Another cool book to add to my growing to-read list!!

  3. I hate it when they have to go to the bridge. I hate it. I know we all do. We become so attached to our four legged family members.

Have a purrfect day. My best to your wonderful mom. ☺

    Happy Memorial Day!
Angels Normie and Mika, Sasha & Grady Lewis

    1. That is a cute nickname. All my cats have so many nicknames – I guess that means they are loved πŸ™‚

  6. We hope you have a good Memorial Day too. Our Mom is reading the Amelia Peabody mystery series, set in Egypt. Although cats play only a minor, side role, they are very well written of.

    1. That sounds like a good book being that there are cats in it πŸ™‚

  7. We love your book reviews. We were also very sad to hear of Awesome Louie’s passing, and his family is in our prayers.

I am currently reading another book in my favorite genre – fantasy. It is called Here Abide Monsters and is written by Andre Norton. It has both a cat and dog among its characters, which I of course love.

Purrs! And, P.S. – Prancie, every picture of you is Awww worthy!

    1. I love any book with cats, I will have to look into this one πŸ™‚ Prancie thanks you for finding her awwwww….worthy πŸ™‚ Your kitties are too and should join next Monday.

  8. Prancie was so nice to pose fur Louie. It sure is sad that he went to the RB just so recently.

Meowmy has to work,so it will be interesting to see how her residents have memories to share about why we have Memorial Day.

    1. That would be interesting to hear their memories, I bet most of the men served.

  9. Those books sound wonderful. I’m sorry Louie crossed rainbow bridge..

  11. We’re pausing to remember today. As you know, it’s been crazy and blog hopping at a minimal. Is this a new feature? There can never be enough cat books πŸ™‚

    1. The Book Date took over quite a while ago from another blog that did the hop, it is mainly fiction, but I like to jump in with cat books and memoirs :)Thanks for visiting.

  12. The cat story and blog sounds really interesting though a shame she has lost her pet. Life lessons can be learned in surprising places.

    1. I agree, we learn lessons everywhere if we take the time to look around.

  13. Sounds like a wonderful book but oh-so-sad to hear ’bout Louie having crossed the bridge.

Me? I’m busy reading the next book on my reading list for Kitty Lit. 101!

    1. I love you kitty lit- glad you are working on another one. πŸ™‚

  14. Momma is reading a free book fromKindle…and was silly enough to be reading it while walking this morning. Someone passed her going the other way and said good morning as she was right beside mommy and mommy said she liked to have thrown her iPhone up in the air it startled her so much. She was absorbed in the story and that poor other walker felt so badly. xoxo Mom not doing that any more.

    1. I am glad she isn’t going to do it anymore, it is good to watch where you are walking and know who is around you for safety. XO

  15. You do good book reviews, Ellen. It was nice of Prancie to help out.
We saw on the Blogosphere that Louie had gone to the Bridge, and visited them today to pay our respects.
Maggie, Mickey Mouser, and Rufus the Red

    1. Thank you, I am glad you like them. I try to keep it short and not give out much information. Very sad about Louie.

    1. I haven’t heard of that one, I will have to look it up on Goodreads.

  16. That’s sad when you find out they’ve gone to the bridge. When I was reading the first Streetcat Bob book, I purposefully didn’t google him so I wouldn’t know. Of course he’s still going strong. I just finished a nice little cozy, so now I need a new book to read.

    1. It is sad when you know they are already gone. I am glad Bob is still doing well, he is a great cat.

  17. Both of those books sound great. We’d heard of Awesome Louie but did not know he had gained his angel wings. We will stop by and leave our condolences. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

    1. Poor Louie, but at least he has a wonderful book about him for all to remember him.
